Just shipped the Saturday Night Live on .fr for 5.3k euros and another France Poker Series live seat Looks like I'll be an FPS reg before long, haha. Felt horrible today with a massive headache, and definitely didn't play my best, but that's MTTs for ya. Play crappy, run amazing and win.

Weeee Nice Score! Ride the heater gogogogo! Also, I was a huge Lesnar fan when he was fighting in the UFC. I might actually have to get back into wrestling to see him kill some folk.
Keep crushing!

4/27 in the Big 162 (again) right now, and 32/42 in the SCOOP-26-L, the Courchevel H/L event haha. Not sure what I'm doing here but once again running good and flying by the seat of my pants in a game I haven't played before!

EDIT: Busted the courchevel, but it was a lot of fun while it lasted. Such a great game.

Meh, 14th, huge dolt shoved 50bb with AQs over my 99 and flopped a flush obviously. Not gonna complain too much, going deep in that thing twice in 3 days is nice. Being a poker player though I literally am never happy if I don't win the tournament outright, so it's obviously kinda disappointing. MTTs are just so dumb - you either win the tournament like 0.1% of the time, or you end up disappointed the other 99.9%.

Did some ICM analysis today of the hand where I busted my SCOOP FT. Turns out that given my assumptions at the time about the villain's calling range, it was probably a fine shove that makes me money, but given what I can deduce about villain's calling range based on what he actually ended up snap-calling with (A2o), it's a pretty significantly losing shove. I'm obviously pretty disappointed to see that I most likely made a mistake there, but I think the mistake was misjudging villain's calling range, rather than thinking that K9o would be +ICMEV no matter what. I think the fact that the two shortstacks were being extremely nitty and not putting their tournament at risk makes it slightly less of a fold, too, because we don't gain that much by folding.

Still, it won't be my last SCOOP FT of all time, so whatever. I'll just win the next one.

Just noticed you chatting about meditation in another thread. Would you mind talking a bit about this? How did you get into it/learn to do it/what's your process/what d'you get out of it etc? Always liked the idea of meditation but never found a way in, if that makes sense.

Sure. It's something I try to do as often as I can, but the nature of being an MTT player means that sometimes I'm rushing to register X MTT before it closes and don't always get time to do it before sessions. I definitely find I think more clearly when I do it, though.

It's probably not as much of an esoteric idea as people think. I got introduced to it by Tommy Angelo's work, and tried the odd breathing exercise and mindfulness practice for a while before focusing on other things I guess. Lately though, I've been finding myself tilting more than I'd like even though I'm running good, which has caused me to revisit my own mental approach a little, and when I heard Ike Haxton (who, from all the evidence I've seen, is one of the best poker thinkers in the world) say on the EPT live stream that he meditates before every session of poker he plays, I gave it another try.

I think the main thing I get out of meditation is maybe a little different to some people - it's obviously a very emotionally calming process, but above all what it does for me is just slow down the constant stream of things completely unrelated to poker that run through my head on any given day. Sometimes when I sit down to start a poker session it feels a little like trying to jump onto a moving train, whereas meditating beforehand helps me to feel a little more like the train is stationary before I get on.

If you want a way in to meditation, it's really simple - just sit somewhere comfortable, set an alarm on your phone for 15 minutes away, and just sit there breathing deeply and really focusing on counting your breaths. It's surprisingly hard not to think about other things, but that's kind of the point. Once you're aware of how many things you're thinking about when you're trying to focus on one thing, it becomes easier to practice focusing on that one thing.

I don't know if that made any sense, but that's basically it. I plan to make daily meditation part of my routine over the coming weeks and months - I guess we'll see how that goes.

Yeah, thanks for this Matt. Makes loadsa sense. I find my mind absolutely swimming with crap sometimes when I go to start a session and this would be great. Will give it a try.

The world would be a far greater place if everyone just took 15 minutes out of their day to meditate.
