In for another year. Your probably gonna need a lot more therapy if you watch all those vids.
On a more serious note could you talk a little about what a Cognitive Behavioural Therapist actually does.

Gl in 2013. Hope you crush.

Lol'd at the first line. Honestly, I'm probably not far off 50 videos/month as it is. I don't see it as much of a challenge.

I wasn't too clear on what CBT was before I started it either. Without going too far into my issues (which are really not very interesting), what CBT focuses on is identifying key attitudes, beliefs and behaviours - both historically and on an ongoing basis - that may adversely affect mental health in some way, and on techniques and processes that can eliminate these harmful attitudes, beliefs and behaviours and enable the participant to more easily engage in the kind of behaviour that they're aiming for. At least, that's my perception of it.

Thank you to everyone for your good wishes, I want to respond individually but it might get kinda samey. I really appreciate the support and hopefully it'll bring a lot of rungood in January.

At the moment I'm just kicking back and looking forward to Christmas, I probably won't be playing until at least the New Year. I have ordered a new PC which should arrive in early Jan (hopefully before miniFTOPS starts on the 6th), and a 3rd monitor which will arrive on the 3rd Jan. I also have a big list of stuff from Amazon which I'll probably order soon - my setup should look pretty nice when I get hold of it all. Will definitely post before/after pics.

Have a good Christmas everyone!

what's your plan for TCOOP? A bink in January would be a nice continuation of the December heater

Plan for TCOOP is pretty much grind like hell and play anything that's not super high. Looking at the schedule, I can see maybe 18-23 events that'll probably be in my buyin range without being ridiculous variance. With miniFTOPS in January too I want to play as much as I can, but without raising my variance level to the max. I might add in some games on Party and/or 888 to replace some of my usual Stars/FTP schedule, just because those sites are always softer and will be more so while the regs are all on Stars/FTP, plus Party have revamped their schedule and it seems decent.

It's pretty unlikely, especially given that they're turbos with bigger fields and therefore even higher variance than your average $215fo. We'll see.

Hey guys, hope everyone had a good Christmas. I'm heading back to Southampton tonight and although I'm sorta tempted to play some poker on Sunday, I think I wanna stick to my plan of taking time off until the New Year. I got Black Ops 2 for Christmas and I may end up playing it all weekend haha.

So, over the Christmas break I've been talking to some family members and just sorta musing on my future beyond this year. I'm really positive about this year and what it's going to bring, which is great obviously, but I'm at an age where I can't just think about the short term. I've been watching a lot of training videos over the break to keep me sharp, and really enjoying watching some videos that deal with more postflop stuff, including a few HU cash videos, PLO videos and other non-MTT stuff. It's making me think about switching to cash somewhere down the line, which is a thought I've had before. I've also thought about sticking to MTTs until I make it to #1 on P5s or whatever other arbitrary distinction makes me feel like I've achieved all I want to, but that just seems like an unwinnable game.

This is gonna turn into a big tl;dr stream of consciousness now, so be warned. As much as it keeps me motivated to want to be the best MTT player in the world or w/e, variance is such a factor in MTTs that I don't know if I'll ever get to the point where I feel like I've achieved it. I wouldn't bother putting this much effort into something if I didn't want to be the best at it and feel like I had the potential to get there, but with a game like this where even if I were the best, I'd never be able to back it up or prove it, and even if I weren't the best the stats might say that I were, that just seems totally pointless in some way. Admittedly, cash games aren't any different in that regard, but I at least need to get some perspective on what is the most +EV for me in the long term. By that, I mean, what is going to make me the most money.

I don't really want to be playing poker full-time - especially not online - for more than another 5 years maximum. At that point, I'll be 30, and about ready to embark on a career outside the game. When that time comes, I want to have as much money in the bank as possible, so I can take time off and invest that time in writing and pushing my projects, and getting myself into the film and television industry. With all this in mind, I'm starting to think more and more about how the decisions I make this year and over the next few years are going to affect my future, and about how I can make the most out of this year and use it to set me up for future years.

Obviously I'll need to see how this year works out before I can even come close to making any decisions, but I'm thinking pretty strongly that by the time next year rolls around I might be ready to leave the high-variance life of makeup and donkament binks behind and have a go at grinding out SNE playing MSNL cash. SNE is worth $100k/year in rakeback if I remember rightly, and when you add in profits to that it's conceivable that at $250k/year for four years I could have banked a milly by the time I'm 30, with minimal variance. That sounds like a pretty attractive prospect to me compared to what can happen in HSMTTs.

So, I guess what I'm saying is that I'm gonna give this year my all of course, and try to ditch any ego-driven motivation toward 'being the best' or obsessing about my P5s ranking. If it gets to the end of the year and I have a solid figure I can put towards a bankroll, it might be time for a change. If not, I'll probably be busto and it'll be time for a change anyway haha

Okay, think I'm done with the random musings there now. Happy New Year everyone, see you in a few days

Yesterday was weird as hell, felt strange to not be grinding on a Sunday. I'm stoked to get back on the grind in the New Year already though, it'll be a few days yet as most of my best friends are teachers and on break atm so I wanna spend some time with them while they have time off work. Will be hitting it hard from the 6th though. Have already set myself some rewards for January, like stuff I'm gonna buy next time I bink something. Top of the list is a huge 4TB external HDD, that'll be the icing on the cake to my new fully-complete setup once the rest of it arrives. Will post pics but only when it's complete

Have a good night tonight everyone!

Happy New Year guys!

Just finished my first session of the new year. Kinda treading water until my new PC arrives but I made a couple of small FTs on Party and had some deep runs elsewhere too.

Oh, and also I kinda spewed and already bought the 140 4TB external HDD that I talked about in the last post. It's not a good idea to hop on Amazon when you get home from NYE and aren't entirely sober, haha. :/

What's up guys. Played a small liveament with a buddy at a local casino tonight, busted after four levels in a standard "valuetown random fish and they somehow have a hand way stronger than they should ever have" spot. Watched a training video. Playing a homegame tomorrow night, and then hopefully should be playing Saturday and Sunday. At the very least, will definitely be super excited for Sunday. I guess I don't necessarily have to adhere to my rule about weekly reviewing as I haven't really played much yet, but I'll review on Monday as that's usually my review day.

In your opinion what is:

The best MTT video or series you'd recommend?
The best cash game video or series you'd recommend?
Any other video's outside of these you'd recommend?

Also what training site(s) are you currently subscribed to and why?

I watch vids from time to time when it's from a great player but the best players aren't necissarily the best coaches obv. I just think alot of vids are too similar and waffle on about the same stuff over and over. I guess if you select them well they could be really beneficial. Would like to hear your thoughts on all of this

Best MTT series I've watched is Assassinato's 21-part WCOOP main event series on PocketFives Training. Really in-depth stuff there. There's also a HH review series done by Timex and mementmori on CardRunners which is fantastic, but that's from like 2010.

Best cash series...eh, I dunno. I've only really just branched out into watching more cash videos. Will get back to you in a few months.

Outside of those...TPE currently has a series on HM2 by Ben Hayles which is great, and my boy DannyN13 (look out for him winning the Canada Cup at PCA next week) has some great series on turbos on there. Also some amazing theory videos on hand reading and adjustments by Daryl Jace, who is absolutely the most in-depth thinker you can possibly imagine.

I currently have active accounts on all the major sites - DeucesCracked, CardRunners, TPE, P5s Training, and Run It Once. It's kinda spewy money-wise to pay for all of them, but I do use them all. You might not get new information in every single video you watch and you might not become a better player after each one, but I just like to make sure I'm thinking about poker as much as possible and getting practice in working through hands and analysing the game. It's the same as reviewing hand histories really - the more of your own play you analyse, the more you get comfortable with it and your thought processes deepen. Plus, there are obviously a lot of videos that do actually introduce you to new concepts and give you good ideas about how to widen your game and start doing new things you might not have done before.

I suppose what I'm saying is that watching a high volume of videos is a supplement to getting good volume at the tables. Both of them just lead to you getting to see more of other people's games, and thinking about it more - the former just happens to usually come from the game of people who are better than you. You're completely right that not all the best players are good coaches, but it works the other way too. Sometimes you can find a goldmine of helpful info in a video from someone you've never heard of.
