What a two weeks it has been. +$2000. going from taking shots at PLO $25 to taking shots at PLO $100. 28,376 hands and a winrate of 15.46 bb / 100. 11.26 ev bb/100.

My immediate goals are just to establish myself at PLO $100. I've got 27 buyins, which is not really enough. So I want to just grind this level and expand my bankroll. I also plan to run up the score a bit at PLO $50 and maybe $25 if the games are a lot better. The variance at PLO $100 is not to be understated. I guess for now I will still consider PLO $50 my main limit and sit PLO $100 only when the games are really good. I know there is tremendous potential at the PLO $100 level but I need to be patient as well. I've already accomplished so much on this latest run.

Let me tell you the remarkable story of my bankroll. It all began on August 10th to 11th, where I went from +1100 to -$500, bustoing my bankroll while on tilt. As part of a promotion the site was running, I got $30 back. So I took that $30 and sat down at a .25/.50 o/8 table. I won a few pots and had $70. So then I started grinding PLO $10. I then got an $80 refund for game security reasons (someone was cheating) and added on an additional $200 of my own, along with some PLO $10 winnings, so that I could take a shot at PLO $25. From there I have managed to increase my bankroll almost 10 fold to $2763.

So this hand worked out pretty good, but upon review I am a little uncomfortable with it. I feel like this is probably a solver approved open. Solvers are absolutely in love with double suited hands. OTOH this hand probably loses a lot of value if the pot goes mass multiway. The upswing chart has T765 ds as an UTG open, and I think we prefer to have the gap at the bottom as we hit nuttier straight draws that way. We are a rank lower tho. In retrospect I would probably open fold this at a very loose table.

We also have to consider the squeeze. While it is true that this is sort of an idealish type hand to fade a three bet, especially from a tight three bettor who is going to have aces frequently, we are not just facing a three bet but a squeeze of so many people. My concern is we are going to end up with our flush draw dominated so frequently because our cards are so low. We're also putting in a fairly large amount of our stack. And the door is open to many players. In a 3 or 4 way all in this hand is very often going to be dominated.

Anyway we flop a big draw with low spr, and amazingly we have way the best of it and we win I think three runs it was.

a little concerning when the flop goes bet raise. obv. utg can show up with aces, HJ too at a lower frequency, usually bad ones. they were both action players though so I didn't really hesitate to get it in. A nice spot with 50% three way, and nicer still when they run it once and we hold.

no real strategic content here, but I managed to hold twice on the flop which was quite lucky and a big hand at the time to my bankroll.

Anyway, hopefully I can continue to put in good volume, 6-8 hours a day. Or more even. And to play well. Invest some time reading and studying.

Good start!

Ensure you are following proper bankroll management - especially in PLO ... variance can hurt a lot.

Good luck, keep it up!

So a couple trying days the last two days. Was down about $600 from peak at one point, but have managed to battle my way back to peak finally today. That is $2893 + a $250 withdrawal. Had a number of really poorly played hands where I got stacked. I dunno if I'm just not read for pLO $100 or what was going on.

River call is just atrocious given my hand, I've got two pair, I've got clubs, not a single diamond. Terrible candidate for bluff catching imo. Also flop is a check imo without even a single diamond, I think I misread the board or something.

Anyway I'm still doing fine. Hopefully can increase my bankroll in the coming days. Need to put in more hours grinding when the games are good.

Down to 2786, but I made another 550 withdrawal. So that is 800 in cashouts which would have been 3586.

My mental game has been struggling a little bit. I haven't really tilted as far as I can tell or remember, but I was positively livid after this hand :

Super swingy the last few days. I guess I was never that far down, but I have been osciliating from +300 to -300. I did do a good job of walking away from some losing sessions, quitting for the day and picking up fresh. Overall volume has been decent, averaging 1500 a day. I could definitely do better but I don't want to burn out either. I feel good about having weathered some negative variance. I almost moved down to PLO $50 (actually most of my volume is at PLO $50 anyway, as the games tend to be better. But I almost quit PLO $100 entirely but luckily I managed to turn things around before I had to do that.

Think this hand is fine, we do have some decision making points though. So pre we flat, which I think is correct. And we flat again, even against the large squeeze as the squeezer is quite aggressive and three betting much wider than most regs. On the flop I think both check and bet are attractive. We don't have a pair, and our draw is entirely nutted, so checking back is probably okay. OTOH our AKQ alone is sort of a made hand component, in that we can often end up with top pair and win aside from hitting our draw, if we get it in say draw on draw. Squeezer is probably not going to c-bet too liberally in this four way pot. I think over all betting is best.

so up another 400 or so since my last update. but god damn did I have to work for it. I had a -$487 dollar 208 hand session. That is -490 bb/100. And the funny thing is I played completely fine as far as I can tell. I was on two tables, and one guy ran up $1500 (on a .25/.50 game) just by stacking off almost every hand. And the other table was extremely wild too with lots of stacking off going on. But then I actually won all that money back or almost all that money back later on the same day. So it was a pretty insane day. And then today I guess I won $500 which it hardly even feels like I did. But yah I had one table where, well first I had this hand.

which was frustrating. I've got 45.81% equity which is pretty huge three way. First it's frustrating that the one guy didn't want to run it multi times, and then to get so close to winning. But I kept myself in check and told myself you know these things happen, that is poker. I mean I am going to lose the pot most of the time. I think part of the problem is I was sun running for the first three weeks of this grind, easily a 2 std deviation run, so I have a lot of entitlement with regards to winning pots and winning sessions. And on the bright side buddy is getting it in there with QT23. You know having a strong mental game is so important in PLO and poker in general. If you want to make the money you need to put in the hours and be able to remain unphased when you are downswinging and running poorly. And we can't fault buddy for stacking off with KKA2 ds I mean that is a god damn attractive poker hand. Anyway, I played on and the guy who got it in with QT23 ds kept stacking off pre against me and losing. So it turned out to be a tremendous little session.

Hey,

interesting thread. Subbed.

I am curious, as I saw you posting HU hand in restacks' thread. Do you coach HU PLO?

thanks man, I aim to keep the good people of 2+2 entertained.

Probably better value would be to just get the HU version of vision and study that for a month, no? I play a modest amount of huhu but I'm not sure if I'm really qualified to coach it. For the most part I find it to be just sort of trying whatever and seeing what works. You have to look for weaknesses and once you find one you work it, but not so much as to make it obvious. HU is a lot of fun because you get to bring out pretty much the whole tool box.

I also think heads up poker is a lot easier than six max. You only have to determine what strategy your opponent is using, and devise a counter strategy. Whereas at a six max table you need to divine what strategy each player is using against each player, as well as what counter strategies they are using. It is substantially more complex. Plus heads up is very fast, and every hand is against the same opponent, so you should get the opportunity to develop reads very quickly.

what up guys. so i ended up getting staked by a 2+2er, nice fellow. hooked me up with a solid stake on pokerbros. we're a week in and I have been crushing it, started at PLO $40 and PLO $60. at +1k took some shots at PLO $100 and we're at +2300 or so right now. looking forward to that first profit chop, and have been okayed for some tentative shots at 1/2 at +4k profit. really excited. it's been a crazy run, almost every single session has been a winning session, we're talking about 30-40 sessions here. and some monster winning days too. Yesterday was my best day yet, +850 or so (shows up in tracker as 871, but 70 was missed because it was an anon game and no tracked, and then so really its +940, but then i think 170 or so was actually from before I went to bed the previous day).

so I am now +5600 sine starting my stake. yesterday was kind of strange, kept falling asleep during the day, maybe I had built up a bit of a sleep debt. I played 2 hrs at some point in the afternoon and was otherwise napping. Then at like 8pm I hit up the grocery store down the street and got like 5 red bulls and a pint of snickers ice cream. Went +600 over two sessions then fell asleep fairly exhausted.

Got a decent nights sleep, hit up the cafe da manha here in my hotel had a couple of coffees. Booked a very nice +240 session over like half an hour mostly PLO $100. Just 2-3 tabling. One hand I flopped like a five card wrap on a dry board, bet it, two callers. Turn actually gave me longer wrap but put up clubs, one of the whales took the lead and potted it, three to the river. I river the nuts and put in a $43ish value bet on the river and get not only the call but the over call which was pretty sweet. Another hand I had AA and iso'd a limper, it went flat, three bet, folds to me I four bet, flatter only has like 40 bb so he stacks off and the three bettor peels also. Flop comes KT4 I have AAJ anyway most of the money is already in but villain finds the fold. I run the main 3x against the flatter, who has K986, and I scoop. So that was tight.

Anyway, then I decide to hit up a local laptop shop and get a charger for my backup laptop. My main gaming laptop is totally ****ed, it blue screens at an annoyingly high frequency and also does this other thing where it grey screens, basically there is some light but the screen is dark and it is completely unresponsive. Has to be rebooted. But strangely it NEVER has a problem when I am playing poker. Poker bros + Hm2 + elitehud, and it has never failed me. But if I try to play a video or type then it wigs out. So anyway I have this pos backup laptop which I am going to use for everything but grinding, and I will continue to grind on my wigged out gaming laptop. So I went to the laptop store, had contacted them earlier on whatsapp to make sure they had what I needed, bought the charger and now I am waiting for the maid to finish cleaning my room.

I've been in Sao Paulo Brazil for about a year now. A little longer I think. My hotel is 85 reals a night, so like $15, including free breakfast buffet. I'm right in downtown Sao Paulo, literally nextdoor to Cracklandia. This place is lousy with homeless junkies. They are super annoying, always smelling so bad and begging for change. But so far the wifi has been pretty solid for grinding and the price is right. Actually they just installed a new wifi system that is like 50 mbps and even more solid. The area would actually be incredible but for the junkies, there are so many restaurants and shops. But it is just totally disgusting.

but yah, poker is going pretty decently. Over my latest sample, because I had to do a factory reset so I lost some of the stats, but over that sample I am +3k but also +1k ahead of EV. Although my last few days I've had some sessions where I've been running a little bad or normal at least. Since moving up to .5/1 I am at +16.5 bb / 100 and pretty close to that EV adjusted. I am very meticulous about the games I am playing which helps. The other thing is that the games can play super deep, which really boosts your winrate if the games are good, because your opponents end up making some massive mistakes and the rake takes less. We have pretty good rakeback deals I think.

But yah I've been in Sao Paulo for a year. My visa ran out a long time ago. But it's no big deal, I will just be banned from Brazil until I pay a massive fine. It's 100 reals a day, so something like 27,000 reals? Maybe it is capped at some point. Basically I will never be returning to Brazil once I leave, which I guess makes learning all this Portugese kind of pointless. But it's fine. Plenty of other third world countries to slum in.

welp we made it to 1/2. we also did a 5600 profit chop, so total profit chopped is 7100. obv half of which is mine. really nice to have some money in the bank. had a brutal session yesterday. at one point was -1500, which is a lot. managed to get it down to -150 or so with rakeback so that was pretty sweet. won a $950 pot AIPF with AQJ2 ds vs K543 rainbow. only a 60/40 fav but i managed to flop a flush so that was sweet. Also ended up stacking off because of back raises with 5443 ds and was actually the favourite against AA and AKQJ (34% equity). Managed to scoop that pot.

Up around $470 today. Barely grinded, had a nice morning session then got hungry so quit for lunch and to get my room cleaned. Had a brief afternoon session then took a nap. Hopefully going to put in a strong evening session tonight.

Apparently I'm not doing that well at 1/2. Well I am winning 7.66 bb / 100 over 4k hands but I am 1400 ahead of EV. Well it is a small sample anyway. The games are definitely still quite good, not as good as plo 60 and plo 100 but still good. Maybe I need to work on my game as well. Fewer tables. More time with my decisions. Better game selection. There is always room to improve. I could definitely stand to increase my volume as well. And maybe mix in some more PLO $100 if I can't find good action at PLO $200. And maybe stop holding lobbies, I got into some bad heads up games yesterday because I was holding lobbies and that has to kill my over all winrate. At the same time it also helps me get some great games started so I dunno. I'll have to think on that.

Anyway, my results on this stake have still been terrific. I've moved up two limits, have some cash in the bank, and the opportunity to win a ton more if I play my cards right.

Lets look at a hand.

playing hu against a suspected fish.

1/2, 230 effective,
he opens i defend KcTcT3.

flop AhQc6c
he pots to 12 I go to 36.

here I dislike this play because IIRC he had a bit of a BS=HS sizing tell where he was stronger if he potted. so I think c/c is better. would be okay if his pot was weak I guess.

anyway i bricked out and barrelled off and he stationed with AQ. sigh.

well I am struggling at 1/2. luckily we are not in any makeup yet, but I've had a couple sharp downswings. luckily followed by pretty sharp upswings, so the end result is we still have a few hundred dollars of profit since the last profit chop. we've chopped 7100 so far.

i'm not sure if I am running bad or just running even. i had one sessions recently where i was 1600 below ev so that was rough. but i've had some run good sessions too. the most recent downswing was brutal. i felt awful losing all those buyins. then I took a break for a while and recovered 1k in like 300 hands. so that was nice. today i grinded out like +300 or something.

i also bought a new laptop. just an acer nitro 5 so pretty modest. i did some surgery and transferred 8 gb of ram from my busted msi bravo 15 to it so I am feeling pretty proud of myself. also my nitro 5 came with endless os (linux), so I had to install windows on it, which wasn't really that hard. i have a crappy celeron laptop i got in mexico as a backup, so I was able to make a boot usb on that. then i had to make some changes in the bios because my nitro 5 was in secure boot mode.

so yah, basically in a holding pattern for now. hopefully some big success at the 1/2 plo streets in the next couple of weeks. lots to work on in my game.

So I got demoted to PLO $100. Ran up a bit of makeup, not really that much tbh, but I was winning before so it was kind of a sharp downswing. So I'm slogging away at it, luckily won the last few days, the official tally is like 960 or something but with today's winnings probably more like 600 or 700. Started at 2k (again 10 buyins makeup not really that much for plo) but that was a little off because I had a decent amount of RB coming. Actually it was very frustrating because the session where I hit / exceeded my stop loss (I don't always know 100% where I am so it's possible I slide past a stop loss by a buy in or two which IMO is not a big deal especially with the fairly conservative limit imposed by my backer) I was playing heads up against this guy and he was playing really wild. So I was up like two buyins on him and he was just going crazy potting at every opportunity. So we end up in a four bet pot I have AQ99 ds and he has some raggedy ds hand, and I flop Axx with NFD and he has bottom two with dominated flush draw and doubles through me. Thats the thing about HU PLO if someone is playing wild and aggro enough you don't have a choice but to GII where often you will have not the hugest edge otherwise they are taking down too many pots. So he won that flip and then a few more pots off me and went on lock down. Anyway I quit the session shortly after that and realized I was slightly over my loss limit and moved down to PLO $100. Also took a little time off because I was in sort of a bad / tilted state which was good to clear my mind.

I've been playing a lot of hu, which I think is highly profitable and pretty low variance. ALthough not always. Played this one guy today who was pretty crazy.

Played a live session. I had one hand (5/5 reals so like 1/1) where I complete in BB vs BU straddle with ATo, someone else calls, BU makes it 30, I call other guy calls. Anyway I flop top pair and station three streets and villain flopped bottom set 666. So that was lame. It was a really boring session so later on I switch to PLO (5/5 PLO5) and managed to win a few pots with top set aces. One we get it all in three way on AJ9 I have AA9xxx with 4 hearts. FLop is AJ9 w/ two diamonds. Buddy has QT8 w/ diamonds (massive, massive draw), and other buddy has AJ w/ nut diamonds. We run it three times and each get a third of the main but I get thirded on the side. Luckily I have another hand where flop comes Axx w/ two clubs, I have NFD + top set. I bet and this guy calls. Turn I pick OE, I think a small straight completes, anyway I bet half pot and get called. River flush, I bet half pot and get called. Final pot was like 800 so it was sweet. Forget the PF action. And another hand I had TP + GUTTY + NFD and bet four way and take it down. Another hand I had 4444T in the BB. FLop comes T23 and checks around. Turn is the 5. I bet 25 and get two callers. River is a brick, 46 still the nuts, I bet 75 and take it down and show. Now those are some serious blockers.

Feeling very comfortable at PLO $100. Might just finish Nov here and try to get a cashout or two happening.

Well I finally cleared makeup. Actually didn't take that long, 4-5 days or so. Then I had this session today. Just really frustrating, steadily losing buyins. Actually it's not quite as bad as it appears, because I did manage to get it in with middle set vs top and bottom and won 100 bb / $100 but my tracker did not track that hand for whatever reason.

Anyway right at the end this guy sat me heads up while I'm playing a few tables and waiting at a few more. We start off like so :

Anyway villain was basically just getting it in super light, and I picked up a bunch of strong hands and cleaned him out. Well first he bad beat me for $100, then I cleaned him out. And got basically even for the session, losing only like half a buy in. Which is really nice when you are down like 4-5 buyins.

Anyway, think I will just try to grind like another 20-30 buyins at PLO $100 and have a payday before taking another shot at PLO $200.

Not at the moment. I haven't really been doing any study lately, although in the past I went through the Upswing Mastery course and have looked at a good deal of Mastermind material as well (and RIO material). I'm thinking about getting a subscription to the PLO Web Trainer.

impressive that ur grinding pretty consistently PLO without a lot of solver study, good job!

so many spots would difficult to solve in PLO without 512gb ram and monker anyways lol

kind of like that aspect of it being some real street poker in a lot of multi way spots where you`re really having to navigate some complex ****.

It's also substantially cheaper than the other options at I think $79 / month vs $130 / month. Actually, they had a free trial recently where you could look at three spots a day which was kind of cool.

I dunno, I have a license for odds oracle so I might dig that out and play around with it also.

So I'm now on a +3k heater (pre rakeback). 13 winning days in a row, volume could definitely be a lot better, but with average winnings of easily $200 + a day we are doing great. Technically two losing days but with rakeback they are winning days.

Now we've got around 2k profit banked (obv. only half is mine) so 9k total profit on this stake. Had a sharp hit earlier today unfortunately, technically this was "yesterday" in the above image you can see things go quickly downhill at the 900 hand mark. I dunno, I sat down at this table and I just could not win a hand, including a couple big all ins. Both with aces, both against the same whale, both times him crushing me with a set of threes. And then on top of that I lost every other small hand I played there, whether I opened and bricked the flop, or got three bet and bricked the flop. But luckily I kept playing at other tables and won back the 3 or 4 buyins I lost at that table.

Well that is a relief. Had a relatively bad losing session last night, was -850 at one point, this wild guy was playing me heads up three betting everything and god moding me. And then a few standard run bad hands. Anyway, I have all but erased that loss. Took a break and then came back strong last night, +389, and then after a few hours of sleep I went +170. So with rakeback it's barely a blip. And I won like 680 or so pre rakeback the day before. Anyway, swingy sessions the last week or so, and lots of opportunity to work on my mental game which is great. What I've been doing lately is telling myself "que sera sera" any time the money goes in and trying to not have an emotional reaction, positive or negative, when I win or lose. And if I lose then I tell myself that poker is a game of variance and if there wasn't variance nobody would play.

Villain somehow wins all three runs here.

Just four days since my last update. Well, I chopped another 2k, bringing total chops now on this stake to 9k. Also got another roughly 2k earned I think (very rough estimate). 1500 to 2k probably. And a decent amount of rakeback due as well. Hopefully get the weekly rakeback figures over the weekend.

My sessions by day tab is looking pretty solid.

That being said, I could definitely increase the amount of hours I spend playing. I think that 400 minutes daily is a solid bar to aim for, which would be around 50 hours a week assuming I am playing every day. I did actually take two days off this month, the 5th and the 6th (well I played on the very edges of these days, playing until 2am on the 5th and playing at like 11 pm on the 6th but basically it was two days off). I keep odd hours sometimes. That was after the downswing that got be demoted back to .5/1.

But yah, over all sessions by day is looking really good. Winning days at a high frequency, and we are booking some reasonable wins as well, including a +819 day. Most of the winning days are reasonably chunky. That being said, could definitely increase my volume total hands and my hours. But not too much. I think that frequent breaks helps me stay sharp and I don't want to just mindlessly put in volume for the sake of putting in volume. My total hands is, well not purposefully low but necessarily low as a result of my game selection methodology. Quality over quantity. I also just can't mass multitable very well on PokerBros especially with this Acer Nitro 5, an increasingly outdated piece of equipment. I've got an i5-9th gen w/ 16 gb of 2400 ram and a GTX 1650. Would like to do a 12th gen build although it's not an immediate priority. I recently beat Horizon : New Dawn which is a really sick game. Also got Age Of Empires IV which is decently fun so far. I have played competitive SC for years so it's all pretty intuitive for me. Got that XBOX game pass which is great value.

Ugh. A very harsh, very sharp downswing. Three painful sessions,

221 hands, -1024.
106 hands - 361.
239 hands -438

-1800. Actually -1700 because in between those sessions I won $8 in a session.

Now it's not the end of the world. Heck, I was up +3k in unchopped profits, so I'm not even in makeup. But goddamn was it a slap in the face. And I became gunshy, and depressed. And felt like I couldn't even poker. But I got some sleep. ANd I played some AOE4. And I guess there were some positives too. Like right when I started saying to myself "**** this and **** that" I did at least rage quit and not tilt off any buyins. Everybody runs bad sometimes. I mean these weren't even crazy bad sessions.

Anyway, I've since recovered 550+ from the downswing so I am making steady progress onwards and upwards into the light. Hopefully a few more good days and a big chop would be nice.

This is the hand that ended my -1k session. My perfect opportunity to turn things around, but nope.

yah, as in special olympics special. anyway thanks bro! I'm just 1k from peak now so managed to grind back 700 from my big downswing so far. Playing a lot of PLO $100. the games are a lot softer and the swings not so intense.

What's up guys. Unlocked a $950 cashout, which was pretty sweet. So I think I've cashed out $5500 so far on this stake, so 11k total profit. And by my crude calculations, we've got another $900 or so winnings accrued. Actually more like $800 after my last session. My last session was great, started off I just was losing every hand. Not really big pots, just like every pot between 10-20 bb went to someone else. And I completely did not care. The games were good, I felt like I was making good decisions, wasn't checking cashier (well technically HM2) just focused on my game and marked some hands for review.

I also pulled the trigger on PLO Web Trainer, which is awesome. Well worth the $80 / month. Technically $40 / month since my backer should shoulder half the cost. Did some preflop training, weird that KQJ9 is a fold UTG unless double suited. Whereas some other hands like AT86 suited to the ten is an open? Or AKd8d9 is an open? But whatever, these are break even opens. Just getting an idea of over all frequencies in spots is nice, the training feature is really nice. And they have heads up data as well. So hopefully I can really grind this trainer over the next month and improve my skill level. While at the same time increasing my volume and time on the virtual felt.

Have been mostly slumming it at PLO $100 the last week. Well a bit of $200 as well.
