I've been a member of this forum since 2009, but have been largely inactive for long periods, but heres a little about myself.

Im 39, and live near Birmingham, West midlands in the UK. Im a life long Aston Villa fan (long suffering haha). My profile picture is Paul Mcgrath aka God.. A true Holte End legend and the end boss as far as defenders are concerned.

I began playing in 08/09 when poker was gaining traction in the UK. Id play tournaments at the local pool hall, and MTT's on Fulltilt.. I'm competitive by nature, and loved how complex poker is and how you can play perfectly and still lose.

I remember being a 12/10 nit playing FR on stars with a roll of like $1800 playing 10NL with massive tilt issues, and despite not applying myself off the tables i reached 25NL before taking a break around April 2013 when i started a new job.

I returned to the tables around 2020.. I had a freeroll ticket which i placed for around $8, and came to find out that full ring was pretty much dead, so u had to adjust my game to 6max.. Fast forward a couple of months and i'd grinded my roll to $800 and was playing 50z.. Due to various issues i had to withdraw and take another break..

Another shot at the big time came in early 2021 and starting with $10, i grinded back to 50z,but yet again life got in the way.. I was made redundant from my job after 5.5 years.. The roll depleted and my setup was sold..

Up until recently i was homeless, but now i have a place to live, and a new job. I've suffered from severe depression and anxiety for most of my adult life, but always found comfort in poker and the community.

I need to get a new setup, and will deposit to play 50z, and i'm more motivated than ever to succeed.

Gl with the grind, I hope it goes well. Might be worth focussing on the main goal, and not spending too much time on distractions. Basically, maybe just go for improving at NLHE, or try grinding PLO, but I'm not sure trying both will be the most productive use of your time.

Improving at 6max NL is my main objective. I'd like to get to an high level and supplement my income, which will allow me to help the needy.


When i came back in 2019 i had to learn 6max, and i felt like i needed to strip down my game and work on my leaks. Up until i had to withdraw my roll in like Aug/Sep 2021 i felt like my game was improving all the time and i felt comfortable at 50z..

I want to learn PLO also, but as a game to play when i'm taking a break from the zoom NL cash games..

GL mate sounds like you had tough times. I'm sure your experiences will give you the grit needed in this game.

I think you have very ambitious goals for just one calendar year, but I think you can definitely make a lot of progress on them!

Well i work 45hours per week.. But intend playing and studying a lot otherwise. I have been lower than i've ever been so want to make the most of my life...

I started recently with just 10 bucks

I play on PartyPoker and will also play on PokerStars. In Czech republic only these two sites are available basically.

Personally with regards to coaching im not sure why so many people are drawn to peter clarke, he does produce some quality content but he is way overpriced for the stakes he plays. There are lots of other coaches who play higher and are much cheaper who have a better understanding of the game. That said i think most coaching is better than no coaching and im sure with the goals youve set youll want to get stuck into coaching asap.

Thanks for the reply. I enjoy his videos on RIO, so naturally he will be considered. I've arranged a sessions with Brokenstars for a few weeks time.

Do you have ant suggestions ref coaching? I just want to work hard on my game to hopefully get to a level where I can supplement my income.. I'd also love to use my knowledge to help players that are struggling, so at some stage I'll be offering free sessions to micro grinders.

Haha yeah let's hope so! We've had too many waste of spaces stealing a living down the Villa over the years! Stevie G is doing a decent enough job so far.
