Played an interesting live session yesterday.
I was planning on going today (Saturday) this week, instead of Friday, like I did last week, because last Friday the 2-5 game sucked and was all regs. However, my Friday afternoon French course got cancelled, so I figured I would go since I could go early.
I got there just before 2pm and immediately got seated. Game wasn't great, only slightly better than last week. For a while we had 2-3 seats open, which makes it better and funner than 10 handed.
I immediately started running good.
I had this nice little hand to start, the first one I played.

Villain is a weaker reg. He mucked river as soon as I reached for chips, but I was going to go big to target Ax.
Shortly after in the next hand I played, I had the biggest pot I've won yet:

This guy is an old asian guy, who is kind of decent? He opens to a bunch of different sizes, but I have seen him flat AA in BB. OTT, there was the whale in between us, but I figure I gotta raise to put more money in. I was shocked when he jammed OTT, but there is no way I am folding. He mucked.
Then shortly after, I played my only other biggish lost hand of the night. I doubled up a guy (presumably fish) who had just sat down short at 2-5.

This seems super nutted, but I really could see it be top pair and NFD. This may well be a fold. Thoughts?
For the next few hours after that, the table got worse. More regs from last Friday showed up (this is at like 4pm) too, and there was basically no action other than one whale. There was no real 2-5 list, or hope of another one opening until atleast 9pm.
It was just kind of miserable once we got 9 regs packed into the 10 handed table. No conversation, no vibe or dynamic. Brantford is honestly just one of the worst rooms I've played at most of the time. Terrible rake, 10 people tables, awful lighting in the room, no ambience, no other 2-5 so can't table select. The vibe there is so often just awful.
Ultimately, I just decided to leave at 5pm, took my $1200 win and called it a day. It was very unlikely this 2-5 game improves before 9pm, so why sit there for hours. In recent months I have really made game selection a big thing for me, so I think leaving and taking a win is a smart decision.
Despite a nice win, I left feeling frustrated. It is just such a shame what that room is. Honestly, if I was at that table at Deerfoot in Calgary I probably stay, just cause the vibe is so much better. I wouldn't even mind a tough table if people are chatting and it's a fun experience. Some of the most enjoyable sessions that I remember are because I met people and we chatted and hungout on the table for the entire session, and I don't even end up remember the results, just that I had a good time.
I think for the couple months, I will only go play on Saturday nights, cause the 2-5 seems to be a bit better than. I hope in a couple months the 2-5 Friday will improve, but for now, I don't want to play in that, because it'll end up totally killing my desire to play live.
Anyway, this probably sounds pretty pathetic for a guy who got up $1500 within 30 minutes of sitting down and booked at $1200 win, but I can honestly say that I just didn't really enjoy myself that much. The win is great, and I am grateful and lucky to have run great, but I don't just play for the money.
