Hello everyone,
I'm here to set some new poker goals and document my progress along the way.

Poker Goals:
-make 50k profit from online poker in the next 12months (hopefully in less than 300k hands)
-play at least 300k hands of 500NL online in the next year
-keep a good work/life balance (<45 hours/week working including study time)
-take one day per week to study and review my online HH
-find at least 1 struggling live player to coach/mentor this year

A little background about me... I've been playing poker professionally since 2018 mostly in the Las Vegas casinos. I got married last October and for the first time in 3 years I took some time off from poker. During that time I realized that the live poker lifestyle was really detrimental to my long-term happiness. I was making a lot of money but the lifestyle was not fulfilling for me. I wanted to find some new challenges in poker while at the same time keep a good work/life balance. So in February I challenged myself to make a living playing exclusively online. Since then I have struggled to make money, but I've done a lot of work to fix the leaks in my game. I'm ready to set some goals and I'm open to hearing any feedback from the community which might help along the way.

Live Poker overall stats below:

WSOP doesn't allow huds so I use PBT and track everything manually...
Online Poker overall cash-game stats below:

500NL online stats below: 115741 hands played

July update:
This month has been a Rollercoaster, I had some initial success playing PLO cash but it was short-lived. I played five online mtt bracelet events, the biggest one being the 7777. July 10th was a day to remember... but definitely not in a good way. I came just short of the money in both the 7777 (sold 50% action) and 1k bracelet events and got destroyed in cash simultaneously. I ended up losing 10k in PLO to round out my worst online session of all-time. I did bounce back though.. I grinded back nearly all of the cash game losses and I got 39th in the 3k bracelet event for 3700$ profit that next week. After that my wife had a work conference in austin so I decided to tag along and play some live cash. I played 3 sessions including a 5/10/25 game where I ran amazingly well and won almost every pot I played. My wife and I went back to vegas with 9400$ more than we had before we left. When we got back I continued to run well at 500NL and continued to lose piles of money at PLO. This led me to make the decision to focus on NL moving forward and take a break from PLO. The NL games on wsop have been really great lately so PLO variance seems rather unnecessary to deal with. Plus I have much less experience at PLO so I've surely been punting in a lot of spots. Here are my hand totals at each stake and profit won/lost for this month...

1397 hands 200nl +879$
11938 hands 500nl +7162$
885 hands 1knl +1531$
83 hands 2knl +2586$
382 hands 200plo +464$
10523 hands 500plo -9029$
3597 hands 1kplo -12258$
1258 hands 2kplo +5175$

14303 hands NL +12158$
15760 hands PLO -15648$
30063 hands total -3490$

PLO variance is sick, not many people realize the sheer amount of hands (think 300k+) you need to even get a ballpark figure of your true winrate.

P.S. those are very accurate hand counts, how do you estimate them?

Yeah PLO variance is nothing to trifle with.. esp if you don't have endless bankroll and time to sustain it. I had two days this month where I lost 10 flips in a row. As far as the hand counts go, I go through each table and count them one by one. I've tried figuring out other methods but tbh right now this is the only way to do it semi-accurately.

GL. What do you think is the biggest shift in lifestyle from grinding online compared to live, other than the travelling aspect?
And do you think your gap is shrinking between you and the best regs on the site?

For me the biggest lifestyle changes stem from the hours that I'm awake during the day. I wake up with my wife around 7am every weekday and we're able to spend a lot more time together because we both work from home now. It's also been a lot easier to eat healthy, exercise semi-regularly, and get a good amount of sleep because of this change in routine. There is not a worse feeling than walking out of bellagio after a 8-10 hour session and the sun just hits you in the face as you open the doors to the parking garage, it's the ultimate feeling of degeneracy. So yeah I think the lifestyle changes have been mostly positive thus far.

To answer your other question... I've definitely improved my study routine and I'm starting to get comfortable playing in almost any lineup that I run into on WSOP. Especially for NLHE I'm at the point where I have a strategy for every situation and board texture so it's just about adding in the proper exploits against the pool and against specific regulars who I'm battling with every day. There are definitely several NL regs who are more skilled than I am in the pool, but I don't think there is a huge gap between us anymore. However I do think my PLO game is severely lacking right now and I have quite a bit of improvement before I can feel confident playing against guys like iheartcookie or jnandez87 (he just joined our pool apparently). I sent a video of one of my PLO sessions to some guys I met on the PLO mastermind forums and they really put it into perspective for me just how much I need to improve if I want to play PLO on a regular basis.

I use Poker Bankroll Tracker on the google play store (android). It's 10$ a year for the pro version which backs up all your data and allows you to import/export easily. I've tried using others apps and there is not much difference, it's mostly just personal preference.

Thanks for the detailed response. I do think online poker allows you to setup more of a rigid routine that you can follow day in and day out. During the series i thought the 500 pool was alot tougher compared to usual times, given there were alot more european regs in the lineups such as Lackoo87gcb/ Ba.a . But it has since calmed down a bit.

Quick update for the first part of august, the first couple days of the month we found a nice little 10k upswing in online cash. The games have been soft during the morning/early afternoon, there have been more than a few punts sent in my general direction. Also I've been carefully reviewing my sessions and implementing some new exploits against the regs which have been working thus far. Ofcourse poker always has its ups and downs... the upswing was short-lived and we swung back downwards. The important thing is we're playing a lot of hands and studying quite often. I'm trying to remember the long-term goals and not letting the short term swings affect my mental game. Here's a list of the hand totals for august thus far and some graph stuffs.

8188 hands 500nl +2522
2251 hands 500plo -908
285 hands 1knl +1929
3019 hands 200nl -680
99 hands 200plo +170

13842 hands played this month +3033$

Here's a quick update for the month of August...

The results for this month look like a giant V on the graph which was very frustrating (esp in the middle). However the amount of hands played was quite satisfying and on the very last day of the month I recorded a +5700$ session. I found a lucky seat at 1knl and caught several punts from some very accomplished players. A former WSOP main event champ wanted to stroke his ego and 5b jam A5s from the sb vs my utg 4b (not a thing sb v utg 100bb). Unfortunately for him I had AA and it did actually hold for once. Anyway here are the hand/profit totals for the entire month of August.

Profit totals include rakeback
23676 hands of 500nl +7290
8528 hands 200nl -1308
4212 hands 500plo -3600
618 hands 1knl +4655
288 hands 200plo +214
81 hands 1kplo +16

37403 hands total +7267

Quick update for results from september.. we took two weeks off this month. One week for vacation in Hawaii which was quite nice. The other week we went to LA and played live which was not as nice.... Anyway that being said I'm happy with my hand totals and I look forward to finishing out the end of this year strong. We're 3months into the challenge so I'll post another comment with hand/profit totals since we started.

Hands played 26073 total +4674
13104 hands 500nl +4015$
12899 hands 200nl +540$
70 hands 1knl +119$

Subscribed. I'm also a live pro dipping my toes into online this year in large part for the lifestyle and sleep schedule improvements! Besides reviewing your own play what's your approach your study day each week? Is all your volume NV wsop or are you playing ignition or club games?

Hey welcome to the club! It def makes me feel better knowing I'm not the only one wanting to make the switch... esp for those reasons you listed.

To be honest I don't do much study outside of reviewing my own play, but I'll still breakdown my study routine if youre curious. I start by recording my hand totals (yes its tedious af) and go through the signficant pots played during the week. This is the best time for me to record notes on my opponents as well. I check showdowns of all the big pots played even if I wasn't involved in the hand. I think exploiting my opponents tendencies is the best way to increase my winrate so that's been my main focus lately. Also if I have time I will run pio sims on different interesting hands played during the week. Sometimes I can even nodelock the specific opponents assumed ranges/tendencies and see what type of strategy pio will suggest in a given situation. I have a good overall understanding of the fundamentals so at this point I think reviewing my own play is the best use of my study time. I'll also send HH to several people I respect and respond to the hh they send me. That's my main way of getting outside perspective to validate my strategy.

95% of my online volume is on wsop this year. Other 5% on club apps like rrr2... rake is quite high and the software makes it rather difficult to multitable so I haven't wanted to put in much volume. I've heard good things about iggy but I'm in nevada so I don't think they will allow me to play. I've seen some good games on ACR running as well but haven't taken a stab at that yet.

I'm not quite done calculating hand totals for October but I do have an update on the results. After rb I lost a little over 5k which is definitely my worst month since I started this challenge. After reviewing the hands I did find some errors that account for somewhere around 10-15% of my total losses. The main issue this month was all-in preflop situations... and the usual culprit was ofcourse KK>AA. In less than 70hrs of play i ran KK into AA 8 times. Of those 8 times i won 1 of them which is slightly under EV. Hand totals are probably similar to September, I will post those once I'm finished recording. Thanks again for everyone's support thus far.. definitely has helped my mindset during this very difficult month.
