Body for Life
Hi guys, thought i would do a journal here about my weight loss via the Body for Life program. This is a 12 week program designed to drop fat and build muscle. It incorporates 6 short sessions a week of cardio and resistance training. www.bodyforlife.com/ . I brought the book before i started.

Friday was Day 1 of the program i was 124.6kg (274lbs) @ 182 cm (5.11ft). I will go jump on some fat scales when i get the chance and do a skin fold test to see what my body composition is like. Will also get a before pic.

My goals are to:
  • Drop a minimum of 15kg (33lbs)
  • Increase my upper body strength
  • Improve my flexibility
  • Be able to run 10k non- stop

Poker
Haven't really played much poker of late as i have been busy with study and work. Just been playing for fun with mixed results. I am going to be starting @ 25nl 6max zoom and by the end of the 12 weeks hope to be regging it up to 50nl 6max.

For the most part i will be 2 tabling so i can focus on my decision making. My Br is $612. I play a solid game for the most part but am prone to tilt. Last night after loosing 3 BI quick @ 25nl i jumped up to 100nl to chase my losses, lost another 2BI then went to 500nl with my whole BR on the table. Luckily i binked a doubled up with 4b shove with k7o. I have locked out games 50nl and above on my account.

Poker goals:
  • 100k hands
  • To be a reg at 50nl
  • Read MGOP, Applications of NLHM
  • Play my solid aggressive strategy

Hey, GL. We have similar goals, and tbh I think running 10k is going to be the hardest of your weightloss goals. 17 stone is still borderline crippling - I was around that for a long time (a bit more now unfortunately) and it seriously hampered my playing squash.

Is your SN outed? I want to know if we've played.

Thanks, and yeah 10k will be incredibly hard for me to do. My right foot is kind of stuffed and need to loose weight to take the pressure off it. I think i can run about 5km at the moment but at a slow pace. I use to play a bit of squash and wouldn't mind getting back into next year. SN is probably out but im not sure. Pm me if you want it. Ive only played 20k hands at 25nl in the last month.

Day 3 - Legs
Breakfast Banana on toast.

Off to the gym today to do legs.
Leg press
Dead lifts
Calve raises
Abs
estimated time 42min

After that i will do a group fitness class called Centergy. Its a bit of yoga, tai chi, Pilates all mixed together. This is good for improving my balance and flexibility which is poor.

I'll do some squats in the 2nd or third week.

Workout done for the day feeling good, just had a shake after my session and will have lunch in an hour or so.

Just need to up my weights on deadlift a little and work on my range of motion on the calve machine.

Time to play some pokers, fish should be tired and drunk by now.

Here's my advice. Until you lose a bunch of weight, don't start running. Use biking for your cardio, if not you're going to **** up your joints and you'll regret it later in life, guaranteed.

Right now you're just too overweight to run without destroying your cartilage.

Also, when you do start running, make sure you focus 100% on form, that's absolutely crucial.
Don't land on your heels, make sure you have good forward momentum and don't heavily stomp the ground on every step, make sure you don't kick to the side with your feet (watch people run anywhere any time of day and you'll know what I'm talking about).
Best thing is to have a friend run behind you and monitor your form. Obviously better if he knows what to look for/has any concept of anatomy.

Same goes for any kind of workout. Form above all, even if it means (and it will) doing things very very slowly, which is always better for you anyway. "bouncing" pushups, "jumping" pullups etc...are useless and ******ed and actually dangerous for you. Make sure you control every moment of your physical motions, it'll make your muscles stronger, more efficient and will greatly lessen the chances that you'll hurt yourself.

Right now you're probably not considering chances of injury seriously, but trust me, just talk to a few older people who've worked out a lot, 99% of them are completely ****ed up.

Thanks for the tips. Started trying to run in Feb this year and already lost 30kg (66lbs). I tend to run about once a week and for not to long. By end of program i will be adding one more run.

Have been watching my form though i don't think i can run without landing on my heals. Ankles are not strong enough to support me. Im running pretty slow so impact isnt to big. I think once a week should be ok to run. Other cardio methods im doing is the rower and cross trainer. I also do a spin class which i really enjoy.

When lifting i focus on form and tempo so should be ok there.

Nice man, i need to loose ~ 90 pounds to be where i want to be. Really motivated to do so as i want to get back into sports and compete.

Day 4 BFL
20 min cardio - Rower
Going to get my sister to take some picks of me when she comes to pick me up for the gym.

Poker wise i think i am getting a bit to angry with myself when i run into top of villains range or when i my bluff catches fail. Another thing is i might be 5b shoving a bit to light with little history but i don't think its to bad blinds vs steal positions.

H1 vs a 4tabling (assumed reg), 12 hands. In general in this position with no history i believe i face alot of 4b bluffs so thought its not to bad getting it in. Thinking might be flawed because i didn't think about 5betting until he 4bet.

    Day 5 BFL

Took some pics on my ipod need to find a cord to transfer to laptop. Will probably put up pics once i have something to compare against.
Chest day today (46 mins long):
    • Bench press
    • Reverse grip lat pull downs
    • Lat shoulder raises
    • Tricep extensions
    • Preecher curls
At 6.15am did a R30 class which is just a 30 min spin class, great way to start the day.

Jumped on the scales, have dropped 3kg so far. Its fair to assume that its just water weight. Will post a poker graph every 5k hands.

      BFL Day 6/84

Cardio day, legs still sore. Will play on cross trainer today as its bloody freezing today. (20mins). Last training of my first week, rest day tomorrow.

      Poker 5k/100k
Things have been going fine, been a bit to aggressive in some spots i think. Played well overall. For the next 5k hands i would like to control my temper.

      Day 7/84 BFL -
Got tilted yesterday morning and spewed off a few stacks and lost $200 odd dollars.

Yesterday due to sisters Bday i decided to have a rest day. Did some shopping then went out for lunch where there wasn't any healthy options so i had a rest day with my food. After lunch i had bk as well, kind of put me in a downer mood. Junk food does that to me.

This is just a rest day and its perfectly normal to have a day of training and diet. The key is to get back on track for the next day

So today i did legs with same exercises as last week. Bumped up the weights a bit from last session and could probably go a bit more. 220kg on leg press and 90kg on Dead lifts.

Tomorrow im going to double up and do a chest workout before doing a ride class. Then i have a meeting with my tutor to go over my first half years work.

Going to listen to the ashes (its a cricket match between Aus vs Eng) while reading a book.

      Peace out peoples.

Oh and if any winning regs want to discuss hands feel free to pm me

      BFL Day 9/84
Day 8 i did upper body and then a ride class. Upped bench press to 75kg i didn't complete my set. Next time!

Today, day 9, i went for a run around one of our local walking tracks. Has a couple of hills in it which i walk up but maintain my heart heart. Felt great afterwards even though it was bloody freezing and a slight drizzle.

One of the things you are meant to learn is when faced with adversity find a solution, don't make excuses and just do it. Tried to get my sister to come for a run but she complained that it was cold and raining. Those excuses weren't enough for me to stop reaching my goals so i went about my business. I am a proud puppy.

Poker wise, running into the tops of peoples ranges which can be frustrating. Have been 4 tabling a bit. Going to read a few chapters of Jandas book and watch 1 video. Then i can go to sleep letting that info infuse into my brain ready to unleash on the weekend fish tomorrow.

          Day 12/84 BFL

          Weight loss todate: 4.7kg

Great news, under 120kg for the first time in about 6 years, i feel energized and happy about making progress. Still have a lot of things to work on especially in the nutrition department. I eat far to much bread and make some poor choices with protein due to budget, flat shopping and dinning out.

I have limited cooking skills but i think im going to try and cook 2 new nutritious meals each week for lunch. Just need to search the net as my repertoire isn't that great.

Leg day today, will do in the afternoon just before work.

Need more focus today instead of looking at other people at the gym and being embarrassed about my weights and body. Focus on what im doing has to be the aim!!!

          Hands played: 13.5k

Been playing about 1k hands per day, not great volume. Have been experimenting with 5b shoving vs 4b timing tells. It hasn't been working so rather than population reads i will go with player specific reads.

                    Day 26/84 BFL
Currently have a cold and very sore throat. It sucks balls and haven't been doing any training for the past 4 days. Hope to recover for the weekend where im going to the city for a course for work. Been eating lots of junk food, will try to stop that.

Lost 5kg overall to date, can't wait to be fit n healthy again.

                    Poker
So just finished off the Holiday period and i managed to grind out a lot of hands. Reached platinum star for the first time ever which is a bonus. Had a couple $200 dollar downswings which was variance plus tilt. Not to worry steadily won throughout.

Here is my hands @25nl on my laptop from the start of this challenge. There is another 20k on my desktop where im up 3-4 BI.

                    Uploaded with ImageShack.us

For all of August i will play 25nl until i win 20 BI then i will jump up and crush 50nl (start with 2 tables at a time).

FWIW the nipple thing is fairly common. I'm not sure what causes it but I used to get it fairly frequently playing squash. The best advice I can give you is to make sure you're not wearing any t-shirts with logos on them, they rub like ****.

Looks like you're doing pretty well at 25NL. Running hot, obv, but doing well nonetheless.
