My name is bsoco (not actually) and I'm excited to start my 4th or 5th 2+2 blog. The first 4 were in 2016-2017 when I was literally Moby Dick.
From 2016-2019 I was a pure whale degen, finishing college + playing live throughout the beginnings of my career - losing.
I always have been passionate about the game and have had a knack for tournament play. In 2020 I started taking my game more seriously, investing in training sites, solver software, and study. I started my journey studying by playing hyper turbos 6max (8% ROI) then I moved to tournaments and now cash...
My tournament results have been OK since 2020:
This is my Global Poker Graph.
My tournament BR is around $5k across ACR and Global Right now.
------------------
I'm not home right now (on my laptop) so I don't have access to my cash database but it looks like this:
5.5 EVbb/100 over 85k hands at 10z [exclusively 5 tabling]
-10EVbb/100 over 25k hands at 50z. [ we don't need to talk about this...]
Since I'm in NYC I can only play global poker and ACR.
I only started studying cash this year - RYE Apprentice, FTGU, and a couple other courses. I am now working with a coach every Monday.
Cash roll is ~$1,500 on ACR for Zoom + Rakeback + leaderboards etc..
I'll post graphs on my next update so everyone can see.
-------------------
I also play live poker in an underground 1/3/ $10(BU/UTG rock) game in NYC. I'm up $1.3k over 35 hours there.
Live roll ~$2.7k
------------
Goals: Make the jump to a 5 figure bankroll - run it up in tournaments, online, and live cash! LFG..
I'll post session details, graphs, HHs later Also looking for some poker buddies so hopefully I can post some good results to incentivize you to be my friend (lol).
Since I started working with a coach I've changed my preflop ranges a ton and am playing a very different strategy in Zoom games than I was before. Told myself I need to beat 10z for 10 buyins before going back to 50z.
Played a quick morning session which was a nightmare, here's some hands:
Hand History driven straight to this forum with DriveHUD 2 Poker Tracking Software
Yesterday was a swingy day. On the cash side of things I kept working on 10z in ACR. Had a doomed session ended up losing somewhere between 3-5 buyins EV, not sure... I've been sharing messages with my coach and we went through some turn spots and I feel like I'm getting much better polarizing turns rather than doing BS block bets and keeping SPRs big.
Week's graph for cash ACR:
Last two days down $600 in tournaments on Global. Running badly in big spots. Final tabled two $55s last two days for a 9th and 8th place finish. Just got to keep up the volume.
Only cashed 21% of tournaments this week - just variance.
-------------
On a better note: I once hired a coach for one session to chat about Global Poker cash games. He said that 50z on ACR is considerably more difficult that 200nl on Global Poker. Seeing as i'm struggling to being 50z I figured I'd give 200 a try as my BR on Global is >$5k.
Ended up winning 4 buyins over 6 hours of play. LFG.. All things considered bankroll is up even given tournament results this week Will post more charts later!
IF you want to improve your game stick to 1 format. Don't mix cash and tournaments.
Also unless you have 30-40% rakeback I don't see much sense in playing zoom especially on anonymous tables. You won't learn how to adapt to different opponents and their frequencies playing zoom without any info.
I play on ACR so it's not anonymous - I have a HUD and a keep tracking of frequencies etc..
As for mixing tournaments and cash - I have limited access to poker sites and neither of them have volume like GG, Stars, or Party.
I understand it's not as beneficial to mix games but I have been playing tournies my whole life and am looking to improve in cash - i'm prepared to move down in stakes if necessary.
Played 2 hours @ 200nl on Global. Started off going down 200 bb but ended the session up 200bb
Super swingy sesh with the first -200bb being both from low equity bluffs -> probably my biggest weakness.
Sucked out once 99>AA for 70bb which was good for the mental. Afterwards went on a tear bluffing nit regs and punishing whales. Pretty stoked - up over $1k this week @ 200nl
Well - Cash went horribly. I ended up running about 500bb under EV in some really fantastic all in spots. Then I tilted off another 2-3 buyins :/
I was crushed having won $800 to being down $1000 in one session.
Fortunately today's tournament session went well. Won a $109 for $1800 and got 3rd in a $55 for $400 something. Overall breakeven day money wise but emotionally it's been a wild ride.
In the month of April I had a huge downswing. Started off strong with MTTs (as you can see in the post above). Cash results were worse than bad. Somewhere around -3k at 50nl + live.
This is my April Sharkscope. Combined between cash losses and the april MTT downswing, lost a lot.
May started off the same way April did. In fact, even worse - I was getting irritated, pissed at everyone, and also not doing well at work. After 10 days or so I decided to focus on my mental health, slept more, pulled 90% of my poker roll off multiple sites, and studied up.
Last two days I caught fire, here's May:
Overall YTD (scheduled) :
Not sure how I can handle these swings long term but I think I'm going to stick to online MTTs for now.
