Hi everyone!

You may remember me from threads such as:

BAEVentures - Making it Online Post-BF, RB Grinding 'Til My Fingers Fall Off

or

MTTSNG Pro ----> Live Cash Pro

I change games about as much as jdawg used to...

Warning: TL;DR NO CLIFFS!

Anyways, I'm back online again. I took a break from poker to pursue a career IRL and things are going well on that front, I enjoy what I do for the most part, have rather flexible hours and am more or less in sales/consulting/strategic planning. I work a lot with numbers and find ways to save companies money which, well, numbers I enjoy. Cold calling on the other hand sucks ass but as always, working on alternative prospecting/lead methods for the long haul.

Anyways, that's not why we're here. We're hear to talk about my transition into a new format online, something I'd dabbled in with poor results pre-BF online and with even worse results live and that is PLO!

I threw some money on Bovada a bit ago, managed to run it up and then back down trying to play Zone NL. I'm a lifetime loser in NL cash games online (although not by much, I might actually be a slight winner but lol @ 100k hands of cash).

I've set myself up with a basic "Essential" subscription to Run It Once in order to teach myself how to play PLO.

So far things are going well, I have a few bucks on Bovada as well as on WPN. Not a ton of action to be had as low as I'm playing on WPN at the moment, but the games are good and I'll move up soon enough to get in higher volume.

Old SNG Graph

Old Live NLHE Cash Graph

PLO thus far on WPN and Bovada:

Goals:
1.) Move up to PLO25 by the end of the 2015 (this will require consistent volume @ 10NL which I should be moving up to full time by the end of next week if I can run around EV).
2.) Continue watching ass tons of PLO videos on RIO
3.) Enjoy Thanksgiving/Christmas
4.) Get to work early, get my **** done so I can get home to play some poker instead of shooting the **** in the office distracted all day long.
5.) BRM = $200 to shot take PLO10 for 5 buy-ins, $750 to shot take PLO25 for 5 buy-ins, $2500 to shot take PLO50 for 10 buy-ins, $6000 to shot take PLO100 for 10 buy-ins, $14,000 to shot take PLO200 for 10 buy-ins.

Once I reach PLO50 I'll start making some small but steady withdrawals as the BR allows to keep the wife off my back too much. First kid (son, Gunnar) born in August so I can only get so much time to myself in my home office to grind without showing her something in return. I really hope to be rolled well for PLO200 by the end of 2016.

Most of my volume will likely be on Bovada, but if the games aren't too terribly reg-infested on WPN with good regs @ PLO100-200 I may continue to run my roll up over there.

I'm not too terribly concerned with my hourly, I just want to be able to crush the games and make some extra dough.

Not too much going on the last couple of days as I typically am in charge of our son on Tuesday and Wednesday nights as the wife has church stuff to do.

Finally had the opportunity to put in a session today after an awesome day of work (~90% closed another $8k deal).

Anyways, played ok today. A bit disappointed after I ran up 5 buy-ins at a super soft PLO10 full ring table only to give back 3 towards the end of my session with total spew. Just obvious bad spots to bluff and making bad hero calls. All in all I think I finished up on the day although likely down a little bit EV wise. Was down about $10 after 1000 hands on Bovada and up about $20 on WPN. WPN was super soft and had to start heads up @ PLO5 on the only table I got going like 4 different times cause it kept breaking. Played a good bit of PLO2 as well where I ran hot as hell and finished up 6 buy-ins on that table.

I likely won't post many hands in here but will probably record a few of my sessions once I pick up a new mic. I hate streaming but don't mind sharing afterwards (used to coach a ton this way).

Anyways, giraffes to date excluding Bovada hands from today as those usually take 2-3 days to get my hands on.

Don't run away just yet...

It's ugly but should be getting better...Was trying to get a little too creative and find too much showdown equity I think against villains that are playing any 4. Combine that with actually assigning ranges and calling off their river bets as a bluff when in fact it's the nuts in a way that makes no sense (or just a two pair better than mine they bet on a flush+straight board that I call because it seems like a blufff...). Back to the basics, follow my hand value and apply pressure. Obviously if I'm actually playing against a thinking player (think I've run into 2 in my 9,000 hands so far) have to adjust some, but against these donkeys I just need to get it in good and not worry about being bluffed lol.

A lot of spewy play combined with a bad run of cards. Nothing to get upset about. I threw another $100 on Bovada so I can at least play 10NL and not deal with the constant 6 way limped pots where no one ever folds. Just annoying having to make the nuts if you ever want to win a hand.

This was an odd spot that I ran into (hero is button). Villain bet the flop, I threw in a small raise with our monster and got flatted. Villain checks and I make a 3/4 pot turn bet. Villain checks river and I bet ~80% of pot and obviously value owned myself...Oh well, fun times value owning yourself in a 200bb pot. We both still had another 200bb (PLO10) behind after the river.

Played really well for ~7 hours worth of grinding today. Ran hotter than the sun I believe also to finish +$140 or so for the day.

Thanks to a suggestion for building a roll from a fellow 2+2'er I adjusted a bit and started short stacking (30bb). Started @ 10NL and 5NL, finished the day on 25NL with one quick profitable shot @ 50NL.

It went really well, unfortunately no graphs yet!

It's amazing to me how badly people (myself included previously) play against a solid short stack game. It's really a simple game. Sit to the left of a maniac, limp a tight TAG range, limp call some with your middling double suited run downs and limp shove over all the other callers with your AAxx/KKxx and some double suited broadways. Evaluate the flop if necessary if called pre and get in ~99% of the time HU.

My favorite are the people calling my 3 bets for 1/3rd of my stack pre, then folding to my shove on flops like Q85. WTF are they calling me with pre? Well I'll tell ya, TT22 rainbow and the like. It's amazing how bad some of these players are...

Anyways, will continue grinding out 25NL short stacking for $7.50 buy-in and get off once I double and find a new table. Going to continue the short stacking method until I'm properly rolled for full stack @ 200PLO.

New BR requirements:

$500 to shot take PLO50 for 5 buy-ins ($15 buy-ins)
$1000 to shot take PLO100 for 10 buy-ins ($30 buy-ins)
$2,500 to shot take PLO200 for 10 buy-ins ($60 buy-ins) where I'll grind it up until I'm comfortable playing full stacked (likely stick to short stack buy-in to start and get up with like 150-200bb until I'm super comfortable playing deep).

The below doesn't include most of yesterday's action @ PLO10 or today's short stacking at all.

As I said, that first day of short stacking I basically ran hotter than the sun.

Yesterday started off well, but finished on a low note after getting ROFLPWNT like 15 times over. Only finished down $20 or so from the day but down $60 or so from the high spot on the day.

BR sitting around $420 right now, may get in a few hands today but not a ton. Rest of the week may be a bit slow as well as I have a lot of real work stuff going on.

Anyways, been playing a ton with PPT running some equities against certain ranges, basically trying to figure out where I can get away with 3betting a bit lighter especially from the blinds versus a steal where I can just cram it in on the flop.

Until next time!

Things have settled down a little since the initial upswing. Been about breakeven the last two days but nothing major going on. Volume was next to nothing yesterday. Might actually have the opportunity to play tonight if the wife stays in (weather is supposed to turn ugly).

Tried hanging out on a few tables after my initial double up and playing until I hit a 100bb stack or larger but playing a 60bb stack is really weird. Likely stick to my method of getting up anytime I have more than 50bb regardless of whether I can sit a different table right away.

I got sidetracked over here, cool developments! Are you doing anything for your big stack strategy or have you locked yourself in to the grind?

There really isn't any amazing short stack training material I'very seen that applies to the limptastic Bovada games.

I'm still watching several videos a day on RIO for my deepstack game. I actually played about an hour of full stack PLO10 last night and despite getting drawn out in a few 70/30's finished with 4+ buy-in on 3 of my 4 tables.

More to come!

Just grinding away over here. Nothing too exciting. Still kinda breakeven the last few thousand hands but haven't had much time to play since last update.

I've started to mix in some NLHE 9 max SNG's as well when I have time (reg speed Triple Up's). They are quite soft and potentially great ROI although the limited number of tables severely limits the hourly.

I'll likely keep playing a little bit of a mix of games as I just get bored/frustrated sometimes. As long as I feel I'm +EV it's likely fine to play whatever. It's also nice to be proficient in multiple forms of poker.

It'd be great to just be an absolute beast in one form (previously supers and live cash) but when it comes to a recreational for profit online grind, it'd be nice if I could enjoy it a bit by having multiple options of what to play based on my time availability as well as what sounds like the most enjoyable in any given day.

Sticking to a 100 buy-in minimum for STT's and 150 for any MTT's that get mixed in during those sessions.

Will update tomorrow with some fresh graphs of both SNG's and Cash.

Life on the work front is going well, nothing amazing this past week or so, but a really small deal I feared was falling through after I didn't get a call back for two weeks (after it had already been approved by the board of directors back in September) finally called me back today to get the process moving for the changeover. Not a big win but $4k is $4k I guess.

I pretty much finalized my prospecting list for my preferred "suspects" today. Narrowed it down to 32 companies with an average deal size of $75,000 each. Working on putting together a solid marketing plan for these and potentially have an opportunity on a few a year, hopefully closing one a year to really boost my book up to where I want it to be 10 years from now.

Anyways, that's it for now, graphs tomorrow!

Kinda sucks when he hits his 2 outer for a 300bb pot @ 50PLO when you're shot taking...from a 30bb stack...

Below are graphs since starting this challenge (through Sunday) for both Cash games on Bovada (a tiny bit of 10NL Zone thrown in there in addition to the PLO) and STT's as well.

Unfortunately, I got crushed at my $50PLO shot take tonight (shortstacking) so that cash graph will be a bit uglier tomorrow. I like short stacking, it's easy, but I feel like I'm missing a ton of opportunity as well. May drop back down to 10PLO and full stack or wait until ~$1000 from grinding STT's then play some 25PLO (rake isn't quite as brutal but still terrible).

As it is, these single table tournaments are LOL good, looks like I'll have to re-subscribe to ICMizer which kinda blows on this little $600 bankroll.

I've all but stopped playing on WPN so may just withdraw that ~$60.

Goal is to hit a $1500 BR on Bovada by the end of the year.

Current Bovada: $522.98

WPN: $59.45 (may play some $1 SNG's or something over there and try to run it up still). Hate the software but rakeback + deposit bonus is nice and 4 tabling Bovada is LOL boring. If my roll was like $2k on Bovada I'd be fine with just playing those STT's alongside 3-5 MTT's. I dunno, I kinda like 4 tabling nowadays, big change from the 24 tabling supers I'm used to but kinda relaxing.

Nothing too terribly eventful the last few days. As of Wednesday I had another ~14 accounts thrown in my lap all with 1/1/2016 renewal dates so I put in some pretty sick hours on Wednesday and Thursday to get on pace to get things done for them. Great news is that I'm caught up with where I need to be for now and in the end it'll turn out very good for me.

Here's where poker is at since this thread was started on Nov 8th.

Single Table Tournaments:

PLO

More to come. I'm back on PLO for the weekend assuming I don't run terrible. Sticking to full buy-ins at $10PLO.

Game feels really sharp. I started watching Tom Coldwell's videos on RIO and I have to say, for what's available for microstake players on RIO as an essential subscriber, these videos blow everything else out of the water.

November Recap:

Played a ton of PLO and realized that the micros suck when it comes to rake and I just suck at it.

Found some LOL crushable single table tournaments and will continue to grind those through the end of 2015. Started watching a good bit of NLHE cash game training content (first time in my life surprisingly) so will be mixing in NLHE cash games when I don't have time for a long STT/MTT grind.

November PLO Results:(note the rake paid)

November NLHE Cash Games:

Single Table Tournaments:

I'll move up to the next stake of STT's with an aggressive 65 BI BRM requirement, dropping back down if I drop 15 buy-ins. I'll grind STT's when I have 3+ hours to play and if I have 4+ hours I'll likely include some MTT's alongside never exceeding 100 BI's for the largest MTT.

I'll play 10NL until I have 20,000 hands as a 6evbb/100 winner or larger before moving up to 25NL (50 buy-ins required).

So yeah, **** micro PLO despite my run good.
