Tough night tonight. Mainly being card dead ate away at my chips and made one bad river call that cost me.

Same goals for 1/10. Also want to get a nap in between the gym and playing. Been yawning entirely too much when playing so soon after the gym.

I think I can, I think I can.

Another tough night. Got seated at the best 2/5 table I have ever been at to start but the table ended up turning AIDS within 90 minutes. I got into a big hand with the main target at the table who was just god awful and sitting deep.

Effective stacks ~510 (CO has ~200)
Preflop ($7): Hero is OTB with AQ
Two limpers, Hero raises to 30, SB, BB, MP1, CO call.

SB is the fish on a super heater. Way overvalues crap holdings and clicks buttons aggressively. CO has been playing a lot of hands but I haven't seen many that he has shown down. I'm basically looking to flop top pair here and have SB spaz.

Flop ($150): A 8 6
Checked to Hero who bets 110, SB thinks for like 2 seconds before throwing in a huge stack of green that covers me, folded to CO who goes all in for his last ~180, Hero snap calls and the SB says "ugh you have AK huh? I tried to rep A8."

Turn ($~1310): J
SB super snap turns over AJo and Hero's heart sinks lower than the remains of the Titanic.

River ($~1310): 4x

To make it worse directly after this the cocktail waitress spilled a soda all over my hoodie and leg.

I honestly feel over the past week plus I've been playing the best poker of my life overall. I'm keeping the faith that the big sessions are on the horizon as long as I keep playing the way I am now.

Going to probably take Sat and Sun off to watch football and do some Tourney cram sessions for the Winter Open Event 1. Spending two plus weeks at the Borgata WILL be my slump buster. There's no place like home.

Also down like 8 lbs since Jan. 1, so I got that goin' for me.

I've been working on taking my time at each decision and properly taking into account all relevant information before making my decisions. Both sessions resulted in modest wins but I'm pretty happy with the way I played. The monster sessions are coming.

Next week I'm going down to the Borgata for two weeks which I think will be a nice change of pace for me. I'm real comfortable playing there since it's where a huge bulk of my prior playing experience comes from. Will also be playing Event 1 of the Winter Open which is a 2 mil guarantee. This is by far the biggest tourney I've ever played and I'm really excited for it.

Funny hand from my session tonight which shows just how clueless some players really are sometimes:

Effective stacks ~600
Preflop ($7): Hero is in the HJ with 45.
Two limpers, Hero overlimps, CO and BTN limp, BB checks.

BB is a huge calling station. CO is some dude named Tom who kept talking about how great his PG&C was on 2p2.

Flop ($32): 445
Checked to Hero who bets 15, CO and BB call.

Turn ($77): Q
BB checks, Hero bets 40, CO folds, BB calls.

River ($157): K
BB leads for 40, Hero raises to 120, BB takes a while and calls.

BB shows 84

Funny part is that a couple of orbits later this same villain bluffed me with the best hand and showed. He then heckled me saying "That's right 'Mr. Slow Play my full house'. I'm coming after you from now on."

Bet, bet, raise is the new slow play. I am a pioneer. I also now have a new person to add to my "sit at their table" list. The more I play at this casino the more I'm getting to know the regs and which ones are worth sitting down with.

One more goal I want to add is to stop chopping. It's amazing how often people will spew against you when you refuse to chop.

1/9 To Do List:
[ ] Gym
[ ] Read 1 hour
[ ] Play 6 hours
I don't play NL as much as I used to but bet sizing on flop and turn looks a little too small.

Good thread and good luck.

45 's hand I would be betting larger on the flop, $30 for me, they either have a flush draw, a 4, overpair, or nothing. Sizing was just too small. Had we bombed the ftr with 30, 85, and 190 bets we make way more. This is a leak of mine too dont worry, sometimes we flop so well we dont want to scare anyone out. But if you knew the other villan had a 4 "trips" they are never folding.

Gl in journey, will follow!

If I knew he had a 4 I probably get his whole stack. I wanted to give them the right odds to call on flop and turn. The only issue I have with the hand is my river sizing.

Thanks for the follow! Looking forward to more outside input from you guys.

There's No Place Like Home

The return to my home state started off really well. I drove up here on Tuesday, threw the bags in the room and hit the felt for a quick session before dinner. In the first two orbits at the table I was already up 1k and finished up 2.5 BI after under 3 hours. Here are two of the hands from the first two orbits:

Hand 1
Effective stacks ~480
Preflop ($7): Hero is UTG with AA
Hero opens for 25, 4 callers.

Flop ($127): A J T
Hero bets 85, MP1 calls, MP2 shoves for more than Hero's stack, folded to Hero who calls, MP1 folds.

Turn ($1172): 5

River ($1172): T

MP2 shows JT and MHIG

Hand 2
Effective stacks ~470
Preflop ($17): Hero is in MP1 with AK
Straddled pot, two callers to Hero who raises to 60, folded to UTG who calls.

Flop ($147): A 7 7
UTG checks, Hero bets 110, UTG raises to 230, Hero shoves for UTG's last 180, UTG snap calls.

Turn ($967): 3

River ($967) 5

UTG turns over AQ MHIG

Stack pic after my first two orbits:

Also played a little bit with actor James Woods:

So I finally got a little run good. Also had $40 free slot play and used it on a JoB machine and his this beaut:

Wednesday morning I played in Event 1 of the Borgata Winter Open. It was a $560 entry with a 2 million guarantee prize pool. I had what I was told was the toughest opening table in the entire tournament room but ended up running my 20k starting stack to 28k+ after the first break. After this I went super card dead and ended up busting in level 12. No more tournaments for me for a while. People are just super annoying taking minutes at a time to make the simplest of decisions early in the tournament. The temporary dealers are also SUPER bad and sometimes can't even make correct change from large denom chips which leads to a crazy low amount of hands per level which is the nut low when short stacked and card dead.

Back to cash.

Played 7 hours last night with this hand coming in my first orbit at my table:

Effective stacks ~470
Preflop ($7): Hero is in the BB with KK
HJ opens for 25, CO and BTN call, Hero raises to 150, CO calls.

Flop ($352): 9 5 2
Hero shoves for 320, CO calls.

Turn ($992): A

River ($992): 5

CO shows 99

Sick call pre brah. BTN announced he folded QQ and I immediately decided this table wasn't for me and switched to a much better table. I ended up grinding back to even for the night slowly and surely. Here's a pretty entertaining hand from about half way through the session:

Effective stacks ~505, I cover
Preflop ($7): Hero is UTG+1 with KJ
Hero opens for 25, 4 callers.

MP3 and I had been battling for a while at this point with me just bet, bet, betting him to death with value hands and he had been making some remarks about how aggressive I was. One hand I put my hand on my stack to cbet and he just instamucked. I knew it was a matter of time before he tried to play back at me.

Flop ($127): J 8 6
Hero bets 80, MP3 raises to 180 total, folded to Hero who shoves, MP3 calls.

Turn ($~1085): 7

River (~1085): 2

I announce my hand and MP3 snap turns over KQ

Ooooooook?

That's it for this update. The night games here are really good so I'm going to put in a pretty long session tonight (and pretty much every night). The one thing I love about Borgata is how bright it is in comparison to MDL. Super easy to stay awake and alert for long sessions here. Will update in another couple of days with cash game progress.

Bro dude set mined 1/3 of stack. That's a good table.

That was definitely a factor in my decision but the rest of the table was real solid. I made the right table change I think. New table got insanely good at like 3 am when a dude was blind raising every straddle to 30.

Nice VP score! I'm heading to the Borgata on Tuesday. Does 2/5 in MD have the same buy in as the B?

Same age and same major if you attended New Brunswick campus. We probably had classes together, small world. If you ever move up in stakes and come home let me know I can bring you to some big private games. Gl subbed.

NB yea. I'm sure we had at least one class together. A lot of familiar faces in those classes. I'll hit you up if I ever move up and head back home.

Back to the Old Line State

"A smooth sea never made a skilled sailor."

Just a short update here. The stint in my home state didn't last as long as I thought it would due to some issues with our rooms at Borgata. I'm disappointed because I made plans to see people while I was home and I historically do very well results wise at The Borgata. Looks like I'll just have to start crushing at Maryland instead I guess.

In the 4 sessions I put in at Borgata I did very well. I'm getting more and more confident every day in my post flop play and I really think the huge upswing is directly around the corner. The only session I played bad I was SUPER card dead and tried to force the issue a little too much playing hands I probably shouldn't have been. It made me realize that there are going to be many nights where I need to just sit there and fold a majority of the session. I can't let bad cards lead to my stack getting chiseled down to nothing.

The tournament I played in was very disappointing. We all know about the chipgate scandal that's going on (refund one time please) but aside from that tournaments in general just aren't for me. I busted level 12 and for the last 3-4 levels we had absolutely atrocious dealers while I was sitting on a short stack and card dead. It was really infuriating to deal with these seemingly first time dealers and then have to watch players go into the tank for minutes over the easiest decisions.

So now I'm back in MD. I put a session in last night and made a little under half a BI but it was a true grind to get there. It wasn't a night of big pots but rather taking down small and medium pots and playing them as well as I could to scratch together a modest profit.

Also: down 11 lbs. No cheat meals yet either.

Goals for the week of 1/20-1/26
[ ] Play a minimum of 40 hours
[ ] Go over all recorded HH's after each session
[ ] Go to gym 5 of 7 days
[ ] Follow daily meal plan all 7 days
[ ] Read "Thinking, Fast and Slow" 1 hour minimum per day
