Been a fan of this thread for a long time now and thought now was a good time to finally chime in. Keep doing what you are doing and updating this thread. Your story is pretty amazing and everything about this thread is sincere.

Don't worry about the number of followers or limit yourself to that arbitrary benchmark. You have inspired a bunch of people and in the end, what else can you ask for.

Keep up the good work and kick some a$$

I will post monthly updates with a few small updates here and there on random stuff. Will probably throw an update up sometime tomorrow (Friday) with some self reflection ramblings.

Thanks for reading.

Mini update time (may turn into a full fledged rant, let's see). I'm at the Borgata for the WPT Winter Poker Open and I'm going to stay here the entire series up until I leave for Vegas on the 29th to go for Super Bowl weekend with my friends. I came in 137th in their $2 million guarantee opening event for 2.2k. My bustout hand was kind of a gross spot:

Effective stacks ~550,000 (MP1 has ~300,000)
Blinds are 10k/20k/5kante

Preflop (75,000): Hero is OTB with AK
UTG1 opens for 60k (this dude was super active and was a pretty awful player, not concerned about him at all in this hand), folded to MP1 who goes all-in for ~300,000, CO calls, Hero reships ~550,000, folded to CO who calls.

MP1 has AKo red, CO has QQ. Board runs out 7 high, gg.

Like I said this was just a puke worthy spot and one that I'm not familiar with really at all since I don't study tournament materials at all really until recently. To be honest I thought that if I won this hand I would probably cruise into the top 25 and this was a good spot for it. It sucks risking your tournament life with AK but to be honest I'm not thinking about what the next payjump is or trying to get to an 80th place finish, I'm looking to win the trophy and 330k. I was really happy with the way I played this tournament since the field was HUGE (over 4k entrants) and I can feel myself improving my tournament game with each event that I play. I know I'm set up for a deep run and hopefully a bink sometimes soon if a couple of flips fall my way.

On another front, I had sort of an a-ha moment tonight at the table. I realized that I'm not fully maximizing my potential at the table AT ALL. Countless times I catch myself on my phone and looking up and not knowing any of the action that occurred at the table for the past five hands because I wasn't involved. This is inexcusable and something I fully intend on fixing ASAP (tomorrow). Can I sit there and grind my phone, play my hands with a couple rough reads and still beat the game for a good amount? I believe that I can at this point. By grinding my phone and using rough reads am I maximizing my potential earnings night after night? No f**king way. I'm not in this game to be a slightly above average winner at each level. I want to play perfect poker as often as possible, constantly improve, and let the money take care of itself. I'm going to start setting a reminder on my phone for every hour that makes sure that I'm on my A game and staying focused on the action during every single hand. There is so much useful information in every single hand even if hands don't go to showdown. Much like my Senses Fail "Life is Not a Waiting Room" wake up call, I think the one I had tonight is going to set me up for some huge success in the immediate future. I'm a pro poker player. There is no reason for me to not be giving it my full attention every moment that I'm at the table. I can fire out texts, tweets, etc on bathroom breaks but other than that and recording HH's, my phone is staying in my pocket from now on when I'm playing.

"Well wishes to my opposition..."

After my most recent read through of MGoP I realized that I had a similar problem. I have since stopped reading 2p2, browsing facebook, checking email etc. while at the table. When you get comfortable with your poker ability it becomes really easy to auto pilot and let these bad habits leak into your game. Paying attention to your "job" entirely is just another way we gain an advantage over most of the other people at the table.

Oh and nice run. You'll bink soon.

There's obv nothing wrong with calling offAK there but with a raise, jam, call in front I think we can find a fold with AK and 28 BB

I don't think of the situation in terms of "finding a fold".

I kinda believe that if we are always looking for a reason to fold, we will find one a high percentage of the time

I think of the situation more in terms of how many times are we going to have decent odds to more than double our chip stack in a tournament? Especially at a stage in the tournament where having a chip stack advantage is HUGE and significantly impacts our chances to win...

I will admit to NOT being a tournament expert, but imo, we can't pass on these opportunities hoping to AA/KK our way to the final table. No matter how disciplined we are, we just can't avoid these types of flips, it is near impossible.

So my philosophy sorta is this: If I can't avoid these kinda flips, if these kinda flips are inevitable, then damn it, I'm going to flip when it MATTERS!!!! I'm going to flip where if I win this particular flip then I set myself up to win the tournament.

I dunno, that is how I think of these spots, I could be wrong, but I'm always in favor of trying to put ourselves in a position to win. Obviously, it would be nice to have AA/KK here, but that isn't always going to be possible.

Well I don't think anyone would disagree taking a flip in a spot that sets us up for a deep run makes sense. The question is: is this that spot? Reads would help of course. RG provides one for the opener and I'm sure that's accurate. But are the raiser and the caller aware of this opener? How has the table reacted to him? What are their images, etc?

My experience this deep in big field mtts is that people are "generally" a bit reluctant to stack off here. Obv if jammer has JJ and caller has QQ we are thrilled to flip. But i think in this case what we actually got was about as good as we could hope for. And often the raiser and or caller will be even more nutted.

Just a thought as I say I don't think calling AK here can ever be considered bad.

RG I might post this in Mid Stakes MTT and get their thoughts. Maybe I'm totally off base.
