im someone with an inability to put in volume, but i really want to defeat this weakness.

my current ability at the spin and gos is beating up to $2 level at 70ChipEV (over 4,000 games). if i can put in volume i can make $1000-$2000 per month play poker online, and give me the motivation to study and move up stakes, but due to my inability to put in volume this has never happened. i typically play about 20-30 spins per day, so this is a huge challenge for me.

my challenge is to play 250 $1 spin and gos per day from today till end of Jan and maintain at least 80ChipEV. (6000 games total)

i want to partake in this challenge at the $1 level on Stars to be more comfortable.
here is what i'll gain from this if i manage to pull it off:

  • about $90 from chests
  • $160 monthly challenge reward (by Jan 28)
  • $24 mini monthly challenge reward (by Jan 31)
  • $400 from actual play (80ChipEV = 6.7% ROI)
  • $675 overall profit ($840 CAD my local currency)
  • motivation to study and move up

to keep myself accountable to this challenge i will pin this post on my browser, and make hourly updates on my progress, feelings, etc.
will post a ChipEV graph daily.

4:36pm - no tables running, just sitting here taking a break and wondering how im gonna be able to make myself play 250 games a day like this

8:06pm - only 30 games in

alright this isnt gonna work the way its going. new strategy needed.

someone told me about the "progressive load principle" a while ago, im gonna apply it now. basically its the idea to gradually increase the "load" over time, like gradually adding on weights when lifting to get stronger over time. that can be applied here as well.

so far i played 3 sessions today, 10 spins per session. i should be able to play at least 1-2 more sessions tonight. so lets say overall 5 sessions. so what im gonna do is tomorrow instead of 10 spins per session i'll do 15. then the next day 20. then 25. etc. eventually i'll do 5 sessions of 50 games per session and reaach my goal of 250 games per day.

if i increase my games per session by 5 each day, i'll go from 10 to 50 in about 8 days.

will update again at the end of today with total sessions and games played with ChipEV graph.

Progressive load doesn't mean you can sustainably 5x your volume in a week. It's a much slower buildup over time. With that said, 10 spins 2 tabling is what, like 20-25 mins of play? Spins are certainly a great format for players who like to take frequent breaks, but needing a break every 20 minutes is abnormally low.

You probably need to do some diving into why you struggle to put in volume. Are you too stressed about each individual game? Do you get bored and stop paying attention or start punting? etc. Putting mental game work into figuring this stuff out will do much more good than starting a blog with completely unrealistic goals relative to your past performance, failing on day 1, and getting in a failure + plan change loop.

yeah i'll increase my games/session by 5 each time, but maybe not everyday, i might need to stay at a level for a few days.

i've dived into why i struggle to put in volume, and its just when i run good i want to take breaks to bask in that and feel good, and when i run bad i take breaks to avoid tilting and feeling bad.

250 spins takes roughly 8 hours / day when you four table and longer if you end with slow players constantly. There is no chance you will make this when your volume is that low right now.

4:15pm - 15 games played. following yesterday's plan to increase games/session to 15

5:17pm - im gonna shorten my sessions per day from 5 to 3, and work on having longer sessions instead. because i find that its harder to start a session than it is to keep one going. i should be able to do around 80-ish games per session eventually. whatever maximum im able to reach on the 3rd session of today is what i'll try to maintain and build upon starting tomorrow.

6:28pm - 15 games played.

7:12pm - gonna try and aim for 30 games on my next/last session for the day, this way i'll get 60 games total for today which is an improvement over yesterday's, and i'll get a good start for tomorrow, aiming for 90 games (3 x sessions at 30 games per session). i really want to be able to reach 250 games per day asap, so maybe i'll add 10 games to a session every new day, at that pace i'll get there in under a week.

12:00am - 25 games played. could have played the whole 30 games as wanted but it was midnight and i ran out of time for the day's cutoff.

tomorrow will play 3x sessions as planned, starting with 30 games per session. will follow the next day with an increase of 5 or 10 games per session until i reach 80ish games per session.

3:15pm - played 31 games. ran pretty shitty and made me feel like smashing things. the thing that tilts me the most are situations for example in HU where i limp and villain iso iso iso, every hand they iso, then when i finally have a hand thats the one ****ing time they check back. or every hand on every board they donk donk donk and i have nothing nothing nothing, then when i finally have something thats the one time out of a million they check/fold.

7:56pm - played 29 games. binked a 25x, aside from that the rest of the games ran below average.

8:00pm - just learned theres a server maintenance thing on Stars in an hour and will last 4hrs which will be till 1am. this is gonna disrupt my plan to play 3x sessions a day. i could either stop for the day, or squeeze in a session at 1am which will technically be tomorrow, i dont like this as i usually like to sleep around then. so probably just gonna call it a day. this sucks, would really have liked to play a 3rd session. if not for the server maintenance i would have played again at 10pm and finish before midnight for a total of 90 games for the day. but oh well

tomorrow im gonna increase my games per session to 40, and if there's no more annoying disturbances i'll definitely make sure to play all 3 sessions.

3:57pm - 40 games played. been 2-3 tabling and it took almost 2hrs. pretty sure i'll have to 4 table if i want any chance of 250 games a day. i feel like im playing good, still running shitty

7:51pm - 41 games played. mostly 2-3 tabling, 4-tabled a bit towards the end.

11:59pm - 40 games played. done... very tired. played alright but had a bit trouble concentrating while 3 tabling, so a few times i dropped back down to 2 tables.

gonna increase my games per session to 50 tomorrow. 150 games a day. i think i should start playing a bit earlier, maybe noon-ish.

Yeah and you feel like they own your soul. Similar to situations where you are in the call stack mode and getting 24/7 hands you basically need to call and every single time they have you beat and your cev takes a dive. But it is what it is and volume kills the variance. Just need to to keep calm and grind it out. At least you have a good attitude to stop when you feel like getting tilted.
