Pre-post cliffs:

OP is a winning player at NL10, NL25 and NL50 on several sites.
OP is terrible with money management IRL and at poker.
OP has a total of $6.69 and 59 FPPs on PokerStars.
OP wants to practise bankroll management and control tilt.
OP wants to be a NL50 regular within three months.

Hey guys

I'm making this thread because I need some sort of motivation to keep me on the right track. I've been a winning recreational player for a few years now after writing poker news online got me hooked. I now write news and strategy for a couple of big Euro poker magazines and websites on a freelance basis.

I have, time and time again, made a $100/$200 deposit that I've run up to a grand or two playing NL10 and NL20 cash games only to have to cash out - many's the time my poker balance has been $1000+ but my account balance in the minus four figures range. So this thread isn't just poker motivation but also motivation to be sensible with money IRL.

Anyway, another problem for me is bankroll management and tilt, esp. at NL25 or below. It must be a psychological thing because I have 35k hands or so of NL25 under my belt at 4.5BB/100 so I know I'm a winner. It must be because I feel "I've already beaten NL25" that when I have $500 or so online I'm compelled to play $22 tournaments and NL50 in order to boost my bankroll quickly. Yeah, lack of patience is also a factor...

So after tilt/cashing out I'm left with $6.69 and 59FPPs on my 'Stars account. I want - nay, need - to practise bankroll management and I guess the only thing I'm rolled to play is $0.10 360 MTTSnGs. So I will be playing them, with a $0.25 45 MTTSnG or two thrown in each session too. I will be playing at PokerStars until I hit $500 or so at which point I'll deposit somewhere else to clear off a bonus.

Basically, my plan is as follows:
Play $0.10 and $0.25 MTTSnGs until I hit $30.
At $30, play NL2 cash games 4-tabling 150BB deep and play $1.10 45s.
At $75 play NL5 cash games 4-tabling 150BB deep and continue $1.10s.

If I can get to $150 or so following this bankroll management then I can take shots at NL10 games or just continue to grind NL5 and $1.1 tournaments. I will be playing on PokerStars but intend to cash out and deposit at a site like iPoker or OnGame to bonus-whore my way through microstakes when I get to $300 or so.

I hope people are at least vaguely interested in following my progress. I'm getting on the grind tomorrow (Monday) with plans to play a ****load of $0.10 and $0.25 MTTSnGs.

Wouldn't be a challenge if it was easy, right?

I think once I get to $50+ it will become a lot easier because I can 12-table NL2 and play super nitty for a few BB/100. I'm not the world's best tourney player by any means but for penny MTTSnGs I think it'll be alright...

Definitely going to be a tough one, but then that will make it much more sweet when you accomplish it.

I'm happy to take a four or five buy-in shot and move down at $50. Also I'm going to be playing TAG exploitable ABC poker at these stakes so a ten buy-in downswing is less likely than if I were aggressively playing higher stakes or playing my usual LAG game.

Played about 25 $0.1/360 tonight and made a few 2-3x buy-in cashes.

I had forgotten how swingy turbos are but I'm pleased that none of the several bad beats I took affected me at all.

I'm currently still in two of them but as of now bankroll is $3.39.
