2024 k bankroll/profit challenge (Live cash games) 2024 k bankroll/profit challenge (Live cash games)

Hi everyone. I just joined 2+2. I’ve decided I wanted to try a bankroll/profit challenge. I normally play $1/$3 match stack, which as you know, plays much much bigger than a standard 1/3. Even bigger than most 2/5 $1k max games. I will also play $2/$5 occasionally, when I make trips to other casinos.
This challenge is to hit $50k profit for 2024.
Currently I am up about $4k on the year. It has been super swingy to say the least. I play on average 60-80 hours a month (I have a full time job). I will be posting results after every session going forward. Possibly provide some hand histories along the way. I hope that you all come along for the sweat and the support, as this is something I have never done before.

Below are my 2024 numbers up to date. Not impressive at the moment, as I mentioned, had some swings. Especially at the beginning of January and end of February. Again, thanks for the support and hope we crush this challenge.

I was stuck (losing) $1,250 at one point in this game. Losing small to medium pots, where I would Raise or 3! And miss. Had a few spots where I squeezed in position, get called by two players and brick.
Eventually, I was able to make some hands and get value to climb out of the hole. Overall, was an amazing game with very deep stacks and we got unstuck. Almost as good as booking a nice win (I’m sure we all know the feeling of being stuck and leaving the game smaller winner).
Made a few calls where I could have folded, but in game thought I may have been ahead on the streets I called, unfortunately had to find folds on later streets.

3/30/24: -680
At no point in the session, did I profit. Was a rough one. Wasn’t really card dead, just wasn’t connecting with many boards and lost majority of my 3 bet pots. Felt like i played really well all session, so happy about that.

The grind continues 💪🏼

60 to 80 hours is pretty decent volume, considering that you work full time.
Nice to see another live poker blog here.
Good luck.

In hindsight, this is about 1 buy in, in this 1/3 match the stack game. I generally buy in for 1k and add on as need be to play deep with relevant players.
Lost a bunch of mid size pots. Mostly in 3 bet pots. Lost some weird ones to some real unorthodox lines taken by fish. Bluffed off 200ish in a 3 bet pot, and then some standard pots.

Hopefully we can get some positive variance to swing our way, as we are well behind on the challenge. A lot of But, that’s why it’s a challenge right? And not a walk in the park to $50k profit.
I’ll be putting in some more hours tonight and tomorrow. Maybe I’ll post a few hands that I find interesting from my sessions.

Lots of punting from villains in these games, just haven’t been fortunate to catch any.
(I am not involved in this hand)
For example one hand where stacks were $1.6k effective.
UTG limp. Folds to old guy in co. Makes it 20. Blinds call and UTG calls.
Flop 543hhx. Checks to co. Who bets 100.
Kid in sb raises to 200, big blind makes it 500. UTG and co fold, bb calls.
Turn Kx. Sb checks. Bb gets 450. Sb now jams for 1.1k and gets SNAPPED off by the bb. River 7x
Sb shows 34s for two pair and big blind shows QQ.
Pretty good games on weekends.

The grind continue

(Probably won’t post until Sunday’s session as I don’t want to make multiple long winded posts. Would also like feedback as to which way would be more engaging. After every session? Or weekly?)

Session went pretty smooth. Trended upward most of the night. Didn’t win any single massive pot, so no super interesting hands for this session. Game was really good all night.

4/7/24: +$400
Pretty boring session. Only played 3.5 hours due to game breaking around 11pm. Was super card dead for majority of the session. Tonight’s profit was due to 2 hands mostly.
Squeezed AKo from bb vs co open 25, sb calls. We go to 125. Called by co. Heads up. Flop K76hhx. We cbet 75. And take it down.
And one of the last hands of the session.
Ep limps. Sb limps. We have JhJd and make it 20 from the big blind. Both call.
Flop 973ddx. Checks to me. We bet 30. They both call. Turn 9x. Checks around.
River 8x. Sb checks. We bet 40. They both call. We win.
Besides that, game was really bad. Happy to profit in a shitty game, short session.

Back at it next week. Will probably only play Thursday and/or Friday. Saturday and Sunday have other obligations to tend to.

Today’s session was a nice change of pace. Played in a fun 1/3/6 NLH uncapped game. Game runner plays high stakes on a popular stream (won’t mention his/her name). Lots of good action and deep stacks. Played a ton of double board PLO and crazy pineapple bomb pots, which I don’t ever play. We also played one round of the “stand up game”. I managed to avoid paying the bounty in this game which would only have been $140 ($20 to each player) total. End of the night (last hour or so) every hand was a mix between PLO double board or pineapple double board bomb pots. I was up a bit more in the session before this, but it was fun to play these games. I was happy to give action in hopes to get invited back.
Will probably get another session in Thursday and/or Friday.

Had an amazing table today. Early in the session was up $400 then played a weird 4! Pot w KK, where I just decided to fold flop (more on this later). Then lost a few pots where we opened and had to fold in multi-way pots. Then lost a 3! Heads up Btn v sb (more on this later). So was up 400 early, then down 200, then back up to finish the session.
However, I did make a big hand and get paid. And a 4! Pot w AA on a dumb ass run out. Some hands below.

Hand #1
1800 eff.
Fishy players opens 20 from mp. Lj calls. I have KhKc make it 90. Folds to bb. He cold calls. Fishy player that opened, now 4! To 250. I call. Bb calls.
I’m sure i can make a case for 5! Here. I usually don’t 5! Much. Either way, I feel like i can go one way or the other.

Flop T83ccx. Bb Check. Mp bets 325. I make a super tight fold. I’ve never seen this guy 4! In the past and I have a decent amount of hours with him. So i made a super exploitable tight fold.

Anyway, Bb calls.
Turn 2c. Bb leads for 400. Mp jams. For 1300. Bb tanks and calls. River 6c
Bb has ATdd mp had AQo no club
(Ridiculous ****)

Hand #2

1k eff
So villain in this hand is a mid 20s dude, I’ve played against him before. Seems decent.

Folds to me on the Btn 86hh and I raise to 15. Sb 3! To 50. Bb folds. I call.
Flop AhQx6x. Sb 35. I call.
Turn Jh. Sb 90. I call.
River 3d. Sb 225. I fold.

Later on we talk about the hand and he tells me he had 96cc (strange).

Hand #3

This hand was V. A fish who has gotten the best of me the last few sessions.

1200 eff
I open TT UTG 15. One call from mp . Fish on the Btn 3! To 60. I call. Heads up.
Flop T86r. Check check.
Turn 8x. I Check. He bets small 45. I didn’t wanna raise cause I felt he’s just betting to try and deny equity w/o a made. So I just call.
River A. I check again. Knowing very well this card hits him. He bets 100. I raise to 400. He calls. I win.

Last hand:
This hand is V the mid 20s kid who 3! Me w 96cc. In the same exact configuration as below (Btn v sb)
1,400 eff
One limp from Mp. Folds to me on Btn with black AA. Raise to 20. Sb 3! To 65. Folds to me. I 4! To 175. He calls.
Flop KT9r. Sb checks. I bet 110. Sb Calls.
Turn 8x. Sb leads 110. I call.
River 7. Sb bets 225.
This was a shitty run out for my hand. And I thought about it for a little and decided on a call. I know this should be a fold at a high frequency, but for that sizing, I wasn’t a believer. I call and he turns over…… AKo

I’ll be back next week and this weekend I have plans w/ my girl and her family.

Hey Captain. Yeah, it’s a casino in the northeast. 1/3 Match the stack game.

I have a have a better format for sharing hands. I just posted those quickly as a way to share them and not so much for review. Although, they can definitely be brought up for discussion. Hands for review, I’ll post in live cash strat forum. Next time I post hands here, I’ll clean it up a bit. Thanks for the feedback and good luck wishes, cap.

1/3/6 majority of the session. Was up and down a few times in the session. Got it all in pre for 100bb each w QQ v AKo and held. Was about the only note worthy hand.

4/20/24: +$885
Shorter session as my table broke and wasn’t in the mood to wait for a seat at one of the other games. Won alot of pots throigh out the night without facing many tough spots. Felt like I played super well all weekend and ran well also.
Back to it next weekend. Hoping I can get to a mid week game to continue putting in volume.

At what point will you call it quits? Or are you just gonna go broke? Sorry to be dismal. if you can't move down... w 5 - 10 buys it might be more prudent to put that money towards q coach and jump online than to show stoicism and go broke. 50k is a chunk of change. I'm envious... all my extra bread (and time) goes to my kids so enjoy that freedom while it lasts (I discovered poker in prison ...

I have a bankroll for this game. So maybe, the title is a little misleading. I probably should have left it at “$50k profit challenge”. So the #s I’m posting doesn’t necessarily reflect my actual bankroll. Just the current profit for 2024.
Thanks for the well wishes and the question!
