Yeah that sucks, definitely quite different from me though. I literally have no pain until I bend my knee past a certain point.

If you keep lifting/exercising without fixing your meniscus(es), in the short term you will keep some of your fitness but eventually it will start impeding the ability to work out anywhere near to your full potential if at all. And you also run the risk of having long term injuries later in life.
On a side note, I'm taking my first trip to your native land in January ... got a sister living in the Gold Coast. Thinking of maybe registering for a small event at the Aussie Millions or playing cash, have you played much at the Crown Casino?
