Ha! Ain't me, but thanks for reading none the less!

Played a good session today, another 5BI, which brings me closer to the $500 profit mark for the month, which is good considering we haven't finished the 2nd week. I'm on holiday from 17th-25th, so won't be playing any at all , which sucks considering my results, but oh well, making me want to grind more to get closer to that $1k mark for the month. I withdrew a little at the end of July, so am now back @ $1k for my roll, which I guess is fine for 50NL, but I think I'm going to be safe and go for a 30BI rule for 50NL, 40BI rule for 100NL, and 50BI rule for 200NL, or something along those lines..

Biggest Winning Hand

Villain reps nothing but sets when he does this, and Q9, which I don't think he flats that often anyway. I think he 4bets AA/KK/QQ pre, he'd probably call JJ aswell but isn't good enough to bet and shove this thin, so it's pretty much all air, unless he did get tricky with KK/AA. I snap called the river, fwiw.

Mini lockdown tonight, grinding with a friend of mine from 9pm-9am or something like that, hoping to put in like 5k hands, hopefully more, I haven't really worked it our by hourly hands, but I don't think I'll maintain 9 tables for 12 hours straight, I'm sure they'll be times when I drop down to 4 for a bit while browsing, and then get back on it afterwards, just to stop my eyes bleeding.

Will get results up when the session ends, and the main hands probably a little later in the day.

Small update, I did try a lockdown before I went on holiday, but lost 5.5BI in one hour, so quit after about 550 hands. I've played a little since, and here is my month graph so far.

And yes, I'm taking shots at 50NL! So far I've played about 300 hands, and am up just under half BI. I've made a couple of threads in uNL, feel free to take a look, and from now on my updates will be as regular as before, but a little more in depth with the HH's.

Biggest Winning Hands

BB in this hand was 37/31 over 50 hands, and 17% 3bet. I didn't intentionally mean to flat with the intention of backraising, but I liked the idea of disguising my hand pre-flop vs. UTG so I could raise a ton of flops and get it in vs. a lot worse holding thats I would pre-flop. I'm not too sure on the sizing, I could make it smaller as I kind of make it look like he had no fold equity, unless he views me as an idiot, I think $21 is way too much, I think I prefer $16. Let me know if you have opinions; http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/69.../#post21238596

Villain in this hand seemed a little fishy, but I wanted to try out some new lines, and figured I had great equity vs. almost any of his holdings, except sets obviously, plus I believe I can get him to fold hands like QJ on the turn if he peels my flop raise and doesn't improve. He's got so many Qx and 8x hands on this board which he's going to peel, aswell FD's and two pairs which I flip with. Sick Bink.

I quite like my line, it can fold out hands like AK/AA aswell as I think getting hero calls from hands like QQ/JJ going for thin value, especially as his hand can look bluffy when he barrels overcards, plus the FD missed too. Although, a uNL reg mentioned that most of the range I rep, he has so much of the time, and he's correct I think. I didn't know tons about the villain, just that he takes aggro lines and knows how to play somewhat, so would expect him to barrell this turn a lot of the time, even with hands like 88. Folding sucked, calling sucked, so I thought shoving gets him to fold better hands, aswell as him calling worse hands sometimes.

End of August 2010
My best month ever! It's a shame that I went on holiday from 18th-25th August, as I believe I would have broken the $1k mark, which I'm yet to do obviously. I played a decent amount anyway considering, except 2 days before and after the holiday when I needed to do quite a bit of sorting out with clothes/tickets ect ect, so in all I spent about a week and a half away from poker, maybe a little more.

After withdrawing some from my roll, I reached $1k again on the 28th, and decided to take shots at 50NL seeing as I was playing well, and running decently too. 50NL went really well, obviously it's not sustainable, but I feel like the level is pretty similar to 50NL, with just amped aggression and a few better regs. I won 7BI in the last 3k hands, but like I said last month, results aren't really that important to me at the moment, as long as I feel like I've played well enough and not done anything stupid while feeling tired, then I'm happy. I'm yet to really run terrible recently though, so a downswing is inevitable soon enough, and losing $300 is a completely different feeling to losing $150.

I didn't watch enough videos this month, in fact the count was at 0. I definitely need to look at that for next month, as I don't want my game going stale. I've got a ton of DC on my HDD as my subscription ended and I didn't renew, so I've got plenty to watch.

Goals for September '10
Volume goals mainly, I've got a $200 prop going with a friend, that we both must play 25k hands, just a motivational bet really. If I reach 25k, I don't have to shop him the $200, and the same applies for him, except he'll be playing rush. Not all that bothered that it'll be a little easier for him to put in volume, as it's more about me putting in decent volume than me making an extra 4BI.

I'm also going to try and stay at 50NL for the whole month, that's not a single hand of 25NL at all. Obviously if I run bad, play bad and lose, it'll be more difficult to stick with it, but I've said I won't be moving back to 25NL unless I drop to $750, so I'm hoping it won't come to that.

I also want to gain CardRunners subscription through 'truelyfreepokertraining' this month aswell, which will pretty much involve me playing the 25k hands, so if I win my side of the prop, then I'll have achieved this goal aswell. I could also factor in Iron Man for FT this month too, but that doesn't bother me too much.

Graph so far this month

Have played about 6k hands in the last 4 days, which is sick considering I've worked them all too. My transition to 50NL has gone smoothly, mainly because of the experience I had there before, and not wanting to repeat it, and another because I try to play a reasonably low variance style of Poker, instead of getting into poo flinging contests with other regs - and trust me, it's been difficult to try and avoid. The way I see it, if there's a spot to take advantage of, then cool, but if you can crush a limit by beating up on the fish and taking advantage of the big mistakes that regs make, why make life harder by picking on the tiny edges anyway that are pretty much going to have reverse implied odds on our winrate.

I'll post a couple of semi-interesting hands for you guys, instead of the standard 'flop a set, get it in on the turn and hold' ones.

The CO is 22/16/7.4%3b over 191 hands, and the BB is 23/19/8%sqz over 2k hands.

I flop a little backdoor equity, but not enough for me to put more money in vs. two villains. When it gets checks through, this is where it gets interesting. I turn a double gutshot straight draw, and seeing as it got checked through, sure enough I can rep a T pretty solidly and get the villains to lay down their small PP's, some A high's, and a 5 obviously, plus if I get called, I still have equity going into fifth street.

The river isn't really a great card for me to bet again, as he's snapping a T, and folding all his missed draws. At the same time, I don't think he bets a T when checked too, he checked behind the flop so I'm sure he doesn't have K, and the straight draws missed, as did the turned flush draw, and I have 9 high in a pot which now contains nearly $20 in, so I put in a small check/raise. It looks pretty valuey by the size of it, I can definitely check/call Kx on the flop seeing as I have a wide range of Kx's from the cut off, so I have Kx in my range still a ton (whether a 50NL reg will take this into account, I'm not 100% sure). I'm trying to get him to fold better missed draws, like AJ/AQ (even though he'll probably 3bet AQ pre), perhaps hands like T9s-T7s, QJ, Q9s and J9s. I think given all the missed draws, the only hand he ever bets this river with and is capable of calling, is obviously Kx and Tx, assuming he 3bets QQ/JJ pre, everything else is X high, and still beats me. Any comments on the hand, please feel free to leave them.

Villain in the following hand is pretty aggro, 33/28/9%3b over 567 hands. Raise cbet of 23%, and only a fold to cbet of 27%, he clearly reps nothing but air and draws on this board, nothing I'm afraid of. in his value range at all, except A7 and 44 obviously.

His raise size is pretty standard I guess, and I don't really know whether to call or fold. Given how the board is pretty low, once he raises and I call, I have an overpair all the time, in which case I allow him to play perfectly and c/f the turn to me with his air, unless he has a read on me that I'm weaktight and I'll fold them all to a turn and river barrel. Taking this into account, aswell as the fast that we're deep and he can still have loads of draws in his range, I decide that the optimal line is to 3bet reasonably small. This doesn't allow him to see a turn card cheaply, it also disguises the strength of my hand aswell, and he'll know his own image, so I can be 3betting air here such a large percentage of the time, that he'll feel he can 4bet this, to which I'm obviously snapping/5bet shoving.

I'm not 100% on the sizing, I think maybe $19 might be a little better, it still doesn't look huge as to give him the impression that he has no fold equity, but it doesn't allow him decent odds to see a turn, as poor a play as that would be. Meh, he called anyway, regs gonna do regular stuff I guess. The turn was a pretty good care for me, because if he does have Axdd, he's not got top pair and my line looks full of air, so I decide to that start going for value against whatever hand he may have, I'm clueless at this point. I'm not going to give him credit for changing gears and flatting TT+ pre-flop, so I've pretty much got him on 44, 7x and FD's, so it's time to start going for value, to which he obviously missed his FD/open-ender, and decided it's time to invent nothing else .

My roll is around $1.75k at the moment, so nearly 18BI for 100NL. I'm running and playing really well at 50NL at the moment, but I've decided to put in a 60k sample before attempting 100NL at all, I know how quickly everything can go wrong. I also want 35BI for 100NL, so once I've managed 60k, and have $3.5k in my account, then I'll begin taking shots at 100NL, hopefully this will be at the start of November. I'm well on target for TruelyFreePokerTraining - Free CardRunners! Yay! Also the prop bet with my friend (25k hands each, he's already at 23k, dooopppee), I'm firmly ahead of schedule. I'm going out on Friday Night with some friends, and then am off to see Muse on Saturday at Wembley, so no grind this weekend (except a sicko Sunday session imo, to catch up), however tomorrow night I will be at my sisters with nothing but my laptop in front of me, so I'll try really hard to put in about 2k hands.

Slacking with the updates, which is surprising as things are still going really well for me. My shot at 50NL has been incredible, I've been focused every session and haven't tilted once, and whenever I feel like I'm losing concentration on the session, I find it so easy to just close the tables and go out, or do something different. I don't have any super interesting spots to show you, except the standard winning hands, but here's my graph for the month thus far.

I have about 22BI for 100NL, but I'm really not worried about taking shots up there yet. I want to put in a 60k sample at 50NL (hopefully will have it by the end of October, aswell as 35-40BI for 100NL. I'm well on my way, but I appreciate things can change tomorrow for the worst and I could be back at 25NL within the next few weeks, hence why I've decided to put in the volume goal and the BR goal.

Face down arse up, yeee boooii.

Wow, been a week since I updated. Well in that week, not a whole not has happened poker wise actually, I fell waaay behind schedule in terms of the prop bet of 25k hands, but kind of salvaged it tonight with 2.3k hands (and counting), so I guess I'm fortunate I got myself ahead of schedule in the first place. I got a new 2TB HDD, so basically all week I've been downloading tons of ****, plus I re-installed windows so everything had to go back neatly, ect ect, you know how it is.. Here's the graph for the month thus far;

I think the roll is up to $2.7k or $2.8k now, I cba checking, but yeah, 27/28 BI's for 100NL, I'm nearly at an accetable level for some, but I want 40BI, so before I have $4k, I won't even consider taking shots. I think the earliest I'll do this, will be middle of October, perhaps start of November, even if I run sick hot and get $4k before that.

MUST PUT IN MOAR HANDS!!

best threadsavers i've ever seen in my life, sick thread too tbh, needs so much more love. how is 50nl? a lot of threads around descriving how 25 --> 50nl is one of the biggest jumps, 100nl soon?
<img k > SSNL (NSFW) Quote
09-21-2010 , 01:53 PM
Thanks for the nice words. The jump for me this time has been really easy because I've played 50NL before, albeit got crushed. Back in November/December I moved to 50NL and lost 25BI in about 35k hands, which if you think about it, is a disgusting winrate (or loserate in this case.). This kiled my game, as I begin to tilt endlessly, and when I should have moved down immeadiately, I stayed up - and kept losing and losing, also running really bad in all-in pots, which coupled together, made me play absolutely terrible.

When I finally moved to 25NL, I took all my bad habits back down with me and tilted like a mother****er, I broke even over about 40k hands, or kept losing, and pretty much stayed afloat on rakeback. I tried many times to 'start fresh', concentrate and work on my game, but it didn't last too long and I kept going around in circles - until the start of this blog. I begun thinking hard about my game, poker in general and my opponents, and then I begun crushing 25NL. This time, when I took my shots at 50NL, I never looked back, and realised how bad I was when I first took shots at 50NL, I didn't understand why I was doing stuff, just that I should be with little plan there after.

So yeah, 50NL is a tough place to move up to when you first do it, but I would really really recommended no staying up if you get crushed. Move back down, think about why you're doing stuff, what you're opponents are doing and how to counter that, then try again when you've got better. If you still get crushed, move down again, work harder, take shots, rinse and repeat, it'll get easier every time. I just stayed up, got crushed, and stayed there, and then spent another 5 months at 25NL trying to get rid of the tilt I'd worked up by not moving back when I should have.

As for 100NL, maybe soon, I want atleast 40BI for it, maybe 50, then we'll see, I think I'm going to try and put in a 60k sample at 50NL though and work on a few things, I'm still not comfortable in 3bet pots, I'm conscience of spewing, but at the same time, think I'm way too weaktight in them, so I need to improve this first and foremost.

Thanks again.
