Cliffs to save you all from walls of text you won't read anyway...but secretly making you read walls of text anyway

*Been playing poker online for fun for 10+years, played up to 100nl online

*Been running my own business the last 2 years(a small personal training studio)

*Having our first baby end of April/start of May(she may come sooner), so making life changes and closing down my gym end of March, so ill be unemployed

*Wife giving me permission to attempt Poker full time until end of May while we wait for baby to come and I transition/close down the business and all the extra crap that comes with it

*I have 91 days until the end of May, starting next Monday to make this happen. Technically as of writing this post I have 96 days.

*Starting Bankroll is $160, one of the conditions of Wife letting me do this is I can't add money to my bankroll outside of poker earnings.

*If I do NOT have a $4,000 bankroll at the end of May-I MUST get a job(I have one lined up with the company she works for if I want it)

*If I DO have a $4,000 bankroll or higher by end of May, I get to continue playing Poker full time for however long I decide.

*Will be starting at 10nl 6max, with aggressive BRM, taking shots when I hit 10 buyins for next level

*Assuming a 5bb/100 win rate(conservative) and 200 hands/hr played roughly, it will take me an average of 7-7.5 hours/day of grinding in order to play enough hands to hit the $4,000 mark in the 91 day time frame. Lots of volume incoming.

*I will post daily updates on this thread with hours played, hands played, interesting spots, life updates with baby girl, and anything else I find useful or entertaining or troll bait worthy.

*Things I struggle with that I am aware of:
-not playing enough volume (I usually play sessions of 90-120 min only so the volume increase will be a challenge for me)
-letting short term variance affect my mental game which causes me to NOT put in volume (plan to combat this is daily meditation every morning, regular exercise, and hand reviews to confirm good/bad play while also "detoxing" my brain from the day prior if we have any bad variance by writing in a journal)

If you made it this far, follow the post and stay tuned. I'll be using the rest of this week as a "warm up" to start prepping myself for higher volume sessions.

Graph of all hands played so far in 2020 in my free time.

Played a good session today for 2 hours and 45 min. Normally I play 60-90 min, 2 hours when im pushing it. So playing longer sessions is going to take a little bit to get used to and be able to stay focused.

mental game review- was focused most of the session, play time 2 hours 45 min. Didn't tilt when losing pots, simply wrote down the hand to review it later. keeping track of interesting hands to review later helped stay focused and not worry about how I was doing as far as winning/losing.

I have several hands to review over the next day or two and will start posting those HH's on here for all to see.

Also reviewed a couple of HH in the forums here, and will be more active over there as well.

Total Time Played: 2 hours 45 min (my goal is to build up to my 7.5 hours over the next few days)
Hands Reviewed on 2+2: 2 (goal is to review 2-5 hands every day)
Total Days Exercised this week so far: 3 (goal is 5 days of exercise per week)
Hands Reviewed from my play so far: 0

Bankroll: $173.49

HAHA RIGHT?!?!? Most would call me crazy

This could be very interesting over the next couple of months, or very mundane if we run bad

Man, really wishing you all the best, but this doesn´t sound pretty good. I have a 2yo myself and belive me they cost a LOT of money to mantain! With a baby on the way and a family to take care of, grinding micros for a living is not a good idea. Not trying to put you down or anything, but I´ve been there (not on the micros though) and it´s very stressful to play poker because you HAVE TO pay rent, prove anything to your GF or whatever.

However if you really wanna give it a go why not try something like this:
Work part time for some sort of secure income, and grind it up from the micros like planned. (I played 5-6 hours or more even when I worked full time). If it works you can quit your job anytime.

Or at least if you wanna play full time, deposit more and play at stakes where at least your hours aren`t wasted. In the end beating NL10 want prove your girlfriend that your gonna be able to "make it" as a professional player.

i hope this doesn´t sound to harsh. I really don´t wanna discourage you, like I said - I wish you all the best. I just know how hard it is to support a family, and how hard it is to play good poker with all that weight on your shoulders.

Best of luck on whatever you decide to do!

My wife is awesome, very supportive, and is my other half. We always discuss things and plan our lives as a single unit.

Gonna assume you’re single/not married 😂

I certainly appreciate the words of advice and listening to others perspectives.

To be clear, the plan is not grind micros for a living, it’s simply trying to grow a bankroll quickly while myself and my family transition into a brand new phase of our lives.

My wife has a great job, and good benefits-so I have the luxury of playing poker “full time” while also being a stay at home dad for the first few months of our child’s life. And growing a bankroll is part of the fun/challenge. It’s nothing to do with “proving I can beat 10nl, as I’ve proven I’m a winner up to 200nl over the last 10-15 years of me playing poker.

It’s win-win on both sides because I get to help her more, and be more involved in my child’s life while also doing something I enjoy.

In the end, I have a great job lined up if the whole stay at home dad/poker playing thing ends up not being an ideal situation all around, but only time will tell.

Don't be mad at me man.
Just saying, I'm sure a marriage has compromises, discussions, agreements and whatever, but "giving permission" means something else, it means that you're not a part of the decision process.
A parent give a permission to his child, not a wife to his husband, at least in my mind.

Ok fair enough good sir you have a valid point. Maybe saying "giving permission" is a bit drastic in reality.

She's supportive of this temporary venture, we should say...

I wish you the best of luck dude.

Some general advice:
- People aren't single or masturbating for a living just because they question your situation

Some poker advice:
- People who crush 50nl+ do a lot of work outside the tables. So since you probably have a lot of time, read up on some poker literature and buy a solver. I'm just assuming you don't study enough based on your first post. HH reviews might not be enough.

EDIT: My girlfriend didn't like poker. I decided to let her buy something within a budget at every milestone I reach. She is now interested in poker and very supportive.

I appreciate the advice. Gotta remember that.

I do more than review HH's. I listen to podcasts, have a couple of books im going through, and watch vids randomly. I'll probably worry about getting a solver once im at 25/50nl again, but right now I just need to put in volume honestly.

I like the idea of letting her purchase something whenever I move up.

Update for the day, our running under EV continues, but such is poker. I'll get a graph update at the end of the weekend and probably post once a week with my graph.

I think I played well again today, not many mistakes or interesting hands. Lost AK v AJo AI pre and a few other hands similar, but continued playing without letting it affect me like I normally do.

Total Time Played: 3 hours 40 min - 6 hours 25 min/660 hours
Hands Reviewed on 2+2: 1/5
Total Days Exercised this week so far: 4/5
Hands Reviewed from my play so far: 0/5

Bankroll: $155.40
