Hi, I'm kevinb1983! My goals here are pretty straight forward. Starting now I hope to
1 - Become reacquainted with the online poker world and find some new poker buddies
2 - Play 400k hands before my year ends
3 - Make $10,000 before my year ends
Like most American players post Black Friday I drifted away from the game. Found my way to something else and poker has been on the back burner. Before then my primary game was 100nl full ring cash.
Just before June my wife's full time position at her work was eliminated. They offered for her to come back part time two days a week but rather than do that and continue paying child care we elected to decline and I would go back to supplementing with poker. To date it has been marginally successful, lol.
I've been playing on the Winning Poker Network targeting their Beast rake race while playing everything between 10nl - 50nl. I've been putting in a fair amount of away from the tables work to try and catch up with the games. It does feel like I've been running like complete ****, but I dunno... maybe I just suck! Hahaha.
The games have definitely changed a lot since I was last putting in heavy volume. Also the fact that I'm kind of just throwing myself into the fire with 6max and shorthanded play all together, it's been quite the ride.
Since starting I've made ~$1k in Rakeback and Beast rewards while also winning a LPS package which I sold for $1750. I figure if I'm going be a rakeback grinder then I better up my volume and start this challenge thread to keep me motivated and on point. I will be playing most days and will try to update every day I do play or every other day regardless of results.
If you're playing similar stakes (or higher ) and looking for somebody who's very driven to improve, feel free to PM me your skype. Otherwise, wish me luck!
So, my month is starting off in the fashion in which I've grown accustomed. Played a marathon yesterday putting in ~7.5k hands and it was meh. Today I put in another ~1k hands while I was making this thread and it was meh as well.
This is probably the most interesting hand I played today just because of my line. I didn't really know what to make of the guy's range because he was 27/23 with a 7% 3bet over just ~250 hands but the limp caught me by surprise. I did not put TT in his limping range there so my plan for the hand after the flop was to try and get value from KQ, Q9, & 98 hands. On the river it felt to me, with the line I took, that I could get him to think I was bet/folding A's really small or something and he would maybe jam his bricked draws. The plan worked and I snapped so quick, lol. Anybody have anything to say about it?
Anyways, Saturday's are going to be my off day. I was just on today to make the thread and get it ready for the upcoming week. Be back sometime tomorrow.

Finished for the day. More meh results. Happy with my volume so far, though. Even though I'm above my EV line I still feel like run outs are continually terrible or dominated hands are continually getting there against me, which is showing up more in my SD and nonSD lines than the EV line.
This is probably the most interesting hand from today. At the time it certainly felt like I was making him fold out better but in going back over it I'm not so sure.
This is vs the same 53/9 guy. It was his first 3bet out of 26 possible so I was pretty positive it was AA. The BB was also a weaker player so I peeled pre hopping he would come along and I could bink. Anyone do anything differently? I just elect to peel flop and turn as I don't really think I have any fold equity.
Biggest winning pot. Super duper standard, imo. CO was bad and I when he raises I just think it's best to 3bet rather than risk the board running out bad and him shutting down.
Been trying to get some lawn work done the past two days but its rained both times. I was planning to put in 5k hands tomorrow but if the weather cooperates I'll probably just put in 4k and get that cleaned up. There's a 10 buyin day coming soon. Hopefully it's tomorrow
welp, two days since last update and I just continue to get pummeled. if nothing changes with this thread in regards to people taking some interest I'm just going to let it die off. before this I wasn't really checking my results but a hand full of times per month but having to watch the downswing grow is really making me hate having to play (and I pretty much am forced to put in hands given my situation).
last two days I've played slightly over 6k hands. tilted very hard at one point. made some really bad calls and one terrible attempt at a bluff.
absolute garbage on my part. 182.44% spew right here.
but I do get to run good in stupid ****ing spots like this. its not even like it was that obv I was up against AA here either. 4bettor was 32/20 w/4.8% 4bet and the cold flatter was 29/13.
Preflop: Hero is CO with K K
3 folds, MP2 raises to $0.50, MP3 folds, Hero raises to $1.85, BTN folds, SB raises to $4.25, BB folds, MP2 calls $3.75, Hero raises to $25 and is all-in, SB calls $20.75, MP2 calls $17.72 and is all-in
Flop: ($72.22) T 7 5 (3 players, 2 are all-in) Turn: ($72.22) K (3 players, 2 are all-in) River: ($72.22) T (3 players, 2 are all-in)
Spoiler:
Results: $72.22 pot ($3 rake)
Final Board: T 7 5 K T
SB showed A A and lost (-$25 net)
MP2 showed Q Q and lost (-$21.97 net)
Hero showed K K and won $69.22 ($44.22 net)
all in all my current downswing sits at ~32 buyins and has really put a dent into my roll. not enough that I need to remove 50nl yet but its getting pretty close.
I've played around with a variance simulator and the swings/breakeven stretches that are possible for somebody < 3bb/100 are absolutely terrifying. this is one of the more extreme simulations I've run but still, a 2.5bb/100 winner can have a 700k hand breakeven stretch that peaks at ~ -100 buyins. holy ****ing ****!!!!!!!!
I've been ~1evbb/100 between 25nl/50nl where 80% of my action has been since I started putting in volume again and I feel like I've been running bad. so lets say I am a 2.5bb/100 winner in these games. in theory I could only be about 1/5th of the way through my swing and I'm already ****ing sick and tired. I really need to add some bb/100 to my game! just going from 2.5bb/100 to 4bb/100 changes your probability of loss over a standard 100k hand month from ~21% to ~10%. If you can get that up to 6bb/100 it drops your average risk of loss over 100k hands down to as little as 2.8%!!!! I really really really need to get ****ing better!!! I did continue to do some work away from the tables today but the hard part for me is compartmentalizing it in a way it can be applied. Its easy enough to say I want to open 15% UTG, 50% on the button, etc. and roughly remember those ranges. but in reality that's just scratching the surface and becoming more efficient at digging deeper into the decision tree is the real trick, imo.
anyways, that's my rant. if there's no interest that's fine. if there is, that's cool also. either way I'm going to get pissy drunk...
