I started playing NLH in February 2013 on full tilt for play money. Played four hours, 5 days a week after school/work before moving to micros in 2015. Those first two years in faux $$ probably saved me tens of thousands of dollars. It takes a lot to play poker well and to me, the foundation is bankroll management.

When my br grew to 6000, I stuck around 200NL for a couple hours after work. It was worth an extra grand every month, but I rested on my laurels and continued with restaurant management. Not glamorous but my only regret is being in the business for 12 years. I am thirty years old. I am healthy, comfortable, yet I've squandered more than I care to admit.

But life's a learning experience and here I am with a 100k bankroll. I feel caution and the overwhelming need to honor the grace of someone's largess. But In my best attempts, I cannot stifle a feeling of excitement.

And that begs a plan: I will be playing 500nl live. I will be multi-tabling 200nl online. I will do these things until I get in that grove and this time, I have to move up.

Up a couple hundred after 3k hands. 4-tabling on a client. Haven't been to the casino yet. There's a big one up north that spreads 500nl nightly. Most of my history is 4-tabling 200nl 6-max @ignition with live play making up 20-25% @200nl & 2-40sl. Over four years I was pulling 1k/month @10hrs/wk.

Fun facts: I've never had any coaching, I've never used HUD, and I've never been down more than -10BI from a 30BI roll in my 4 years of playing semi-professionally. Not a terrible amount of experience, but right now my comfort zone is at these limits and it's going to take some work to move up a level. In six months, if I can fire up a few clients and start 12-tabling, cool. If I can move up to 1000nl live and spread 500nl online, that's good too. Just trying to keep it measured.

Never been satisfied with midstakes or even the 9-5 joe schmo equivalent. 60-80k a year, while perfectly respectable, is just not for me--and it's not just about opulence either. I am shooting for the moon for very personal reasons. I am shooting for the moon because it's in my bones and I am very, very lucky to have the opportunity to do so.

Started focusing on getting leaner/healthier instead of faster/stronger the past month and it appears to have a positive impact on getting into a "flowstate" at the tables. Super intriguing and I'm sure there's a number of physiological reasons for this.

Haven't logged into BetOnline since 2014. Solid improvements. New laptop and a couple monitors on the way--almost time to put in some volume.

Still waiting on new equipment. Been taking it easy the last few days. Breaking even after 13,000 hands. Haven't played poker consistently for a couple years and while I've maintained basic poker abc math(hard to forget pot odds), it's the combinatorics that have proved elusive. Things like putting someone on a range before making that tough turn call are things that I'd kick myself over after failing to count a few simple combos. At about 9k hands or so I found myself moving past the superficial and really thinking about the hands someone could have, what they can bluff with, etc. Also, the intangibles that don't strictly fall under math--the things that you just kind of get a feeling for. Overbets, delayed c-bets, those hero calls and bluffs that seem to shave off to the nearest decimal. Those are the things that make me think poker is not much more different than riding an extremely complicated bike.

Tested with 800 hands, 8-tabled BetOnline + Bovada. I'm getting the feeling that given a solid WR 4-tabling 200nl, playing more tables seems to scale with speed and partitioning more than anything. Pretty fun so far, lots more to think about. Gonna stick to 8-12 for a while and test my comfort 😜

Right now, the sweet spot is 12-tabling 200nl. Gonna see if I can make it 500nl before February. No HUD so far.

Nose to the grindstone. Winrate currently @2bb/100, 8-12 tabling 200nl after...…… a lot of hands………. and before things get too ponderous, I'm gonna be splashing around live play. It's not the same raw, brute-force learning experience but it sure is fun.

Thanks man. Pretty darn similar, but BOL has more decent regs tabling it up.

All things considered; poker is the best game that has ever been contrived by the likes of man. Apologies, chess--there just isn't any profit to be had, albeit for the mind.

At any rate, it is rather demented how bad live players are (500nl). I love sitting at that table. The atmosphere can be relaxed, rowdy and anything in between. You see everything at the poker table and on a timescale, you see a microcosm of society.

I am a professional gambler; a trade harkening back further than we realize and more complex and unprejudiced than we assume.
