I'd disagree. In the regulated US market with small liquidity, getting your hands whatever you're plus EV in, regardless of game type, is essential. Also, we view MTTs as these high variance things, but with the small fields on regulated sites, it's a lot easier to actualize your ROI.
I've done a $20 to $10k "challenge" (aka I took the $20 they gave and ran it up) on regulated US websites, and a lot of my big starters were freerolls and small, late tournaments.
A +EV endeavor that fits within a small bankroll comfortably, when it's hard to find things that do in Nevada online poker, is far from meaningless.
