Hey there Poker bros, we'll cut to some background:
why have i never tried online? I did briefly a long time ago but quickly found out online is a tougher field than live. and being the lazy-ass I was I decided the obvious choice is to take the easier challenge and play against LIve players (where people are in general playing more recreationally). its funny cause I didn't even beat the 1-3 games for the longest time, but you play long enough eventually you learn to beat this level , but i mean i was by far not the biggest crusher, a slight winning player, but combined with degeneing on the Pit games, poker was a bad choice for me to waste 10+ years of my life in this lifestyle. the years I grinded live, my profit equated to what i could have easily earned at a minimum wage job. I realized it woulda been better if i went and gotten a real job and just play poker as an hobby. yeaaaa a job is boring but its consistent income and there's no variance. This continued for a while, but i would end up losing interest in poker overall, I dont enjoy spending my weekends in a casino, and i do enjoy being outside and doing other things, so i stopped playing poker overall.

Recently tho, i thought about playing poker again, but i really dont want to spend all my time in the casino, What's my other alternative. "Online? "
"This is madness, i would never beat online" - i say to myself. it's a way tougher field and i know i dont stand a chance... but then i had this thought. "what if i actually put some effort into becoming a better player." i dont know why this has never crossed my mind. but what if i stop going for the easy competition and actually put myself through an actual challenge. i dont even know how much online has evolved, but i know from where I came from this would be hella of a challenge for me, but i think it could actually be fun to try.

So this is why im starting this thread, for me to track this journey. I am going to start from the lowest level and move up, taking shots when i feel its appropriate (at least until a certain point) then i'd have to strictly follow BR management the further i move up. I am going to play PLO instead, im not good at it, and its a game i'd much rather learn. so yea I'll start from PLO2, and see how far i can move up. Honestly I have no clue about the online world and how tough the competitions have gotten, but i imagine it would be really tough.

I do work a full time job right now, so im going to do what i can do dedicate time to this side quest. i'll be playing 6max 4-card PLO. i'd have to make a decision on what site i'll start with [TO be announced..] it'll prob take me a while to get to the next post. i dont think im just going to jump straight in, unlike 2 card holdem, my knowledge of the PLO is low, probably going to have to read a book or something, so i at least have some sort of strategy going in. but yea if anyone has tips or advice feel free to post hem and I'll take everything into consideration.

initially i wasn't even sure if i should have started a thread. there's really no benefit for me to post my progress online, but ultimately i think it would be a relaxing place for me to gather some of my thoughts and also have the journey documented.

i have played some live plo, but basically playing it like a table game when i just want to gamble. going in with no strategy basically. but i was aware that i didn't know how to play the game, i just didn't cared about learning, i knew its a completely different game from holdem which is what i mainly played. however i dont think i've wasted my last 10+ years playing live. i've gathered some experience about table dynamics and player tendencies which i think would translate well . at the end of the day it's still a type of poker and certain concepts are similar.

The last couple weeks I've been mapping out how im going to attack this. i dont think im going to play at all initially , going to just study off the table. i bought an online course which i thought would be the most efficient step to start off. so i'd have to learn preflop range, post flop strats and defense. i've looked over the course and ya its a sh*t ton of material to cover, but i think it's doable. that's the plan for now. will update when i have further progress/ thoughts

Good luck man!

Online is definitely way tougher than live. If you couldn't beat live, personally what i would do is learn your course you have purchased then potentially try live again. 10nl online these days is like 500nl live.

Alright, time for an update.

I spent the last few weeks hitting up some studies, getting my life into a better routine as well. I felt like being new to omaha, I needed a prep time to get myself ready mentally and also in terms of understanding the game so I'm going in with some game plan. I got the hud set up, gone over some ranges (which i'll definitely need some time to get adjusted to coming from playing holdem for so long). so im ready to start logging in some hands.

I jumped into some 2PL, tested out the player field and i played some 5PL and it doesn't feel too different. at some point the stake is just too small it feels like im just playing free-money. but yea i jumped to 10PL and try out the player field, and i felt like this is a good starting point both in terms of player strength and monetary amount.

There have been some change of plan during this month though , I got offered a great opportunity and unfortunately I wont be able to commit as much time to logging in hours in poker as i'd like. I just turned 37 and I got responsibilities and bills to pay haha. but I really do want to keep this blog going. I figure I can still log in hands whenever I have a day off here or some free time there. Originally I was thinking of logging in about 10,000 hands per month. I did want to start playing just single table so I can focus more on my quality of play. now im not sure how much time i'd have to play. hoping I can still log in 2500 hands at least. we'll c how that goes.

So far i've logged in 800 hands so i guess i'll post result graph in some updates. I'd also note any interesting hands if i feel is worthy of sharing. until then chow Outsideee

if you cant beat live you want be able to beat online where the players a on average much better. So i would spend more time in the lab than at the tables

thanks for the tip! but ya as mentioned above i can beat live and yea i did spend a month actually putting in work at the lab before i started playing.

having said that its good time for me to do another update. again being a relative new player in omaha, i still need to get the flow of the game. kinda trying to put what i studied into the game and making sense & grasping the dynamic of the table. I realized i wont be able to put a lot of volume, so for now going to be focus more on my quality of play. but this session actually went well. i got a better flow of the game. I actually wanted to just start in 25PL but there wasn't a lot of players at the time. so i stuck with 10PL. last session i bluffed off my stack a few times, realized i was probably over bluffing. but overall i still played well but i was losing flips so i couldn't really run up a stack. today a lot of the game makes more sense to me, i could apply what i've studied into the play. I started off the session with some losses again, but i liked how i played. luckily later on in the session the cards started to run my way and i was able to get some lucky spots and optimized on it.

i thought 10PL might be too easy, and 25PL actually has more player by this time so i decided to hop into that instead. again, im aware theoretically i shouldn't just skip stakes if im following BR management, but 25$ is not that big , i can easily rebuy many times. Trying to find a stake that I believe i can beat, and then follow BR management from there. so i hopped onto PL25 and it wasn't too different from the 10PL field. I actually want to move up and play 50PL but there isn't too many players at the table. so yea im fine with starting out from 25PL. i was only about to get 300 hands in today and 200 last time. so it will be a while before i have a good sample size. i think getting volume is going to be the main issue, but once im more comfortable with my plays i will then consider multi-tabling, but that might be a while away. thinking i just want to single table for now for the next few months.
