Good session for a change, up $1,000. Some 5-card, 1/3, and 2/5 - and even a little 4/8 limit again! (Short list, promo running.) Nice to have a little run good after a losing streak. Limit is a garbage game - flopped two sets and only made $30 or so! You just can't make enough on your big hands to make this game profitable.

5-card, GII ott with two nfds and a gutshot against a set and the nut straight and got there (hehe), got there with AA+nfd (a rarity for me). 2/5 stacked the table spot with 99 which I just GII on 7-4-2cc for his last $300 and held on 6-7 runout (no clubs). Regained some confidence last night, which is great.

Lost $600 mostly at 5-card. GII with nuts plus redraw (set) and lost to nfd, then top set lost again to nfd. Nothing notable happened at 2/5. Pfft.

Run bad and play bad amounted to another loss $1,300. KK twice, A-high flops both times. Second time I opened, BB squeezed, I should have ripped pre, but "trapped" and got a crap A-high flop which checked through but V jammed turn. His best bluffs got there (suited wheel aces) and he'd probably check those once for pot control and when I check behind he has the green light that he has the best hand.

Doubled up the table spot multi-way with AcKs on AQTcc7cTd river V had QT (flop checked, I bet small turn and he had 1/3 pot ($115) left river).

Got needled by this rec peddler after I called his SB x/r on 78Thh with AJhh otb as the pfr and folded to basically a turn jam for $250 since this is mostly gonna be a set. He literally started laughing at me and told the whole table what I folded, then proceeded to rack up. (Notably, he didn't show.) Claimed he had a K-high FD. Sure you did.

Anyway, I think it's time to move back down in stakes for a little while, at least until I regain my footing. Happy to still have a paycheck, that's for sure.

OK I talked to a good reg and decided it's not worth the stress and the swings to play so much 5/10 and I am dropping back down to 2/5, buying in for $500 or so.

End-of-year goal: make $30k playing poker by December 31st. (I want my bankroll figure in my poker income app to say "$100,000.")

I know this feeling of having visual bankroll goals. I don't actually keep my bankroll separate, but I like looking at my virtual BR and seeing new nice round number.

Lost $250 at 2/5, bleeding down, some small losses here and there - biggest was 3! QQ, x/f AA78 flop/turn to jam. 1/3 FINALLY got AcAh, iso limp to $16 in SB, fish I'd been trying to stack all night calls, flop T-7-2ss, he bets $30, I crai $95, he snaps with T2o and I lose. I was laughing about how long I'd waited for AA and finally got them and lost to T2. Geez. Still broke even at 1/3 it's so soft.

I don't think I realized how exhausted I was working and playing nonstop. Took a night off, a little bar poker then super early to bed. Hopefully helps with my play too.

Is your life balance mostly just work + poker? If so then a decent chance it just becomes a real grind at some point. I hope you have some other hobbies/interests to balance things out a bit more...

Anything else in the world somewhat interest you? Sports? Music? Crafts/Art? Outdoors? Work grind + poker grind = pretty big life grind without anything else.

Thanks, GG. Will work on that.

Played PLO4/HE round-by-round mix game BB ante tournament last night, finished 2nd in chips out of 37 entrants, chopped three ways for a $1,700 score ($1,500 minus the one bullet I fired). Nice way to start the month. I would have played it out but it was already after 1:00 a.m. and I had work in the morning.

Interesting spots: aggressive SB opens for a min-raise, I defend KQJ6 in BB, flop K-3-4ss, he pots, I jam 2x pot, I hold v. AT32. GII with AA twice in PLO against QQ and held both times too. This was a very soft field, as expected. Undid a lot of the damage from last month with the score. Yippie!

Long lists galore at 3pm on a Friday holiday weekend, got on whatever opened up first - 4/8 limit, then 1/3, then 5/10, and finally 2/5. Ended down just under $300 or so, GII TT v. QJo on 89Tdd at 5/10 $700 eff. didn't boat either runout, actually got a quarter because the second runout was Q-J. 3! a spot at 2/5 relentlessly, mostly cbet and took it down, then bluffed much of it off to him and called it a night.

Thanks. About 1 5/10 weekdays. 15/25 has been running with some frequency lately too. Played some today, even; now off to get laid - LOOONG overdue. Then more poker.

I realized after posting this that it sounds like I played 10/25 last night, which I certainly did NOT. I meant I "broke even." Down $300 5-card, up about the same 2/5. I am paring back my higher-stakes escapades for the time being, playing in good games and sticking with 2/5 otherwise. Date night was great, was so spent I didn't even go back to play more poker afterwards. :P

Started making FB friends with some players I want to know better. Networking is important, especially in a game as competitive as poker. Already got a little advice on how I can improve my game! (It didn't involve playing tighter...I have that part down pretty well.) One convo I had led me to move back to 2/5 more now, and I think that's good. I did jump into 5/10 a little early, but I didn't go busto so that's good. Another longer-term friend put my on the list a couple hours before I arrived, so the table was ready when I got there. Saved me a couple hour-wait.

Also, just a general aside: with all the stressors out there these days (and I won't list them because I don't want to stress out anyone!), it's really important now to take care of ourselves. So do that! Exercise (sunny walks, bike rides, even a few push-ups), eat yummy/healthy food, drink tasty drinks, see friends and loved ones, do things (and people!) you enjoy doing, relax, get yourself something nice. Be happy.

I am running like garbage lately (and certainly playing slightly worse because of it), experiencing my biggest downswing ever, but I am keeping my spirits as high as possible. Do I experience a little depression when I lose another big pot? Sure, but it doesn't last too long - that's the key.

Been taking poker coaching quizzes lately, just to tune up my game a little. Noticed one problem area is short-handed play, which comes up a lot more now than it used to. (Like I am supposed to go with 99 4-handed for 100BBs at 5/10. Wow!)

Lost at 5-card, missed OESD+NFD against top set, lots of card deadedness, oversetted someone once but it wasn't enough to make up for the many more hands I entered and simply whiffed. Got really fed up and left for 2/5 where I did fine, made back a little with a double with AJ on AJ7 multiway in a single-raised pot (beat the flush draw/sd I assume). Folded KK pre (a rarity), unknown bad rec - seems more like a 1/3 rec taking a shot - opens UTG, three calls, me $75 SB (I have been pretty inactive), UTG rec 4! jams $475. His last 4! jam was a couple hands earlier with QQ for $220. Logically he should have a stronger hand for double that amount, so I folded. Meh. As one poker reg said to me, "You're a feel player." Maybe so. I certainly felt like KK was no good there. Like if I bet $75 on the river and someone raised to $475, would I call with the second nuts? I think the same idea applies pre with KK. Add to that my read that he was a 1/3 player, close to a $500 jam pre . . . . Ended up posting a $400 loss on the day. (Maybe I should have called!)

Lost at PLO5 again. 44 on QQ4 v. pro $250 eff. who I’ve seen barrel trips as a semi-bluff. Could have Folded flop but I guess I was willing to gamble. Friend told me the DT he knew would have folded flop. Sigh. Made a lot back at 2/5 with a set and later broadway in 3! pot. Still a $200 loss tonight.

I've folded KK 3 times in my 1/3 NL game; twice shown AA, other time wasn't shown (so unsure about that one). Given your reads, I have no problem with your fold.

Folding KK is pretty bad here imo. You squeezed relatively small over an open and 3 calls and he jams for less than 100bb total. Snap call. He can easily have QQ/JJ/AK at a minimum as well as some random punts. I could even see him jamming a bit wider given he's shot taking, potentially wanting to avoid post flop spots.
