This seems like a wise decision. That is a very complicated series of games, and learning it all at a high-stakes table just seems like an incredibly expensive set of lessons.

That was one of the great things about the old online boom days. You could learn games much more cheaply and incrementally move up.

Thanks for reinforcing something I've had to learn the hard way. At least I haven't lost hundreds of thousands like some others.

On the bright side won over $1.4k last night at plo with KQQ85ss on Q67ss, 4 ott and held four ways against two other sets and a fd. Played 10/10 for 30 minutes but didn't like the game so I quit after missing a couple flops.

Wrapping up another session, overnight. Got an amazing night’s sleep following a shorter rest the day before that left me waking up with serious anxiety that my friend talked me down from on the drive to mgm. Great guy. Anyway plenty of sleep to play an overnight session today.

Couple big VIPs playing this time was nice. Refrained from playing the big mix as planned although I stopped by briefly and retold the story of how this dude falsely accused me of calling him the n word at the table before I was called for plo.

Gonna end up over $1,400. Might give it another hour until rush hour passes. Not bad at all. Beats losing! Days like these remind me I can do this just off of plo alone. $1k a day or so..really good money. Do I need to get good at mix? My ego sorta wants me to, plus intellectual curiosity. Sigh. What a bother.

You should only play if you enjoy it, and even then hopefully be at least break even ish.

Yeah I really do enjoy the experience of learning something new and getting better and applying what I've read/watched to a game to make money. That just hasn't been my experience in the big game so far, so while I enjoy parts of it I really dislike the experience of losing a lot and having to get unstuck playing plo. Playing stuck really sucks!

I am winning in the 20/40, easier game and running somewhat better too. We also don't always have the big bet games (plo/big o) which are really high variance and can make or break a session.

Played plo, ran well up $2k there, AKKTT held in 3! pot, then suggested to play mix heads up against a more experienced player who plays the big game, actually held my own and ended up a little there too! Just 10/20 but it was great to get some reps in. Nice day. Now zzz...

I know right? It's been a little haywire the last several days. I can never seem to keep it consistent, one good game that runs overnight and it's all over. Yesterday I almost reset it but decided to leave due to an odd welding smell permeating the entire poker room. Didn't feel like catching fire.

Good beat as of late, light my fire remix: , slightly spooky throwback for Halloween time.

Apparently made a few mistakes in the 10/20 mix yesterday, patted a T with two draws left in 2-7, 3! a 7-dugi no low with one draw left in badeucy, didn’t draw to a better low with an 8 dugi in badeucy, kept a T8…better to draw OOP multi-way. Thanks to V who gave some pointers in game. He knows I’m trying to get better and was giving up some ev challenging him heads up too.

Also broke an 8-low heads up in Badacey with a really good badugi with one draw left. Probably should have kept the 8, maybe ditch it multi-way.

Played plo, nothing happened until I lost top set to a wrap big whup, then left for 20/40 mix and lost a bunch with a lot of second best hands, draws bricked, ran no. 2 into no. 1 in 2-7 triple draw too, that was great. Lol. A long 20-hour session, at least I got to play a full session of the mix and gain valuable experience!

Some more hands from the mix session, open AQ532 in big o, get it in on AK9r and lose both runouts to A9876. Open AKQ72ds in big o, same V calls with 34569 in BB and we get it in on 347ss and I get counterfeit on an A river and get 3/4'd. These big bet hands added up for my session and cost me most of my losses on the night.

Lost with an 8 dugi in badeucy starting with a 235r to a 7/7, lost with a 7-dugi in badacey, and as mentioned lost with 76432 in triple draw to 75432 against a new player who I suspected had the nuts when she 3! me. Oh well. Also lost with an 86543 to a better 86.

On the bright side, drew to a A953 dugi in badugi and piped a A962 dugi, made a J dugi on the river and got value from a good tri. Not the worst session by any means, the big o hands really made up the bulk of my losses. Fun group as usual!

Got a little loose with an action V in plo, he bets everything, called him off with a 7 on 732dd and lost to his OP+nfd. Oh wellz, he earned my action.

Yesterday's day session was fine, woke up early and got into work a a normal-ish time, won KKJ99 in 4! pot, making nut flush, game got worse so left for 5/T and then 2/5 when the game got short, won AKs > 66 and AKs > K4s in each game and got tired so I called it a day after just 7 hours or so up $1,500 or thereabouts.

Did well at 5/t and plo, AKs>KK on both runouts (!), KT>K6 on KTA6, l/rr 4! AA won big at 5/5 plo on QQ6, flopped the boat, and then the whales quit to play a private 25/25 and I was tired by now and decided to leave myself. $4,500 day, making money this month finally.

Another good win, most from 10/10/25(50) plo, up $2.5k there, played all day from 12 noon until 2:30am. Finished the month strong despite getting bruised by the big mix game. Recovered from some really rough sessions and played through it, very proud of my mental game, very on point. Even got to play 20/40 a little today too, made some hands in stud to get unstuck and even win a little. I really worked on my social interactions today.

Was going to go home about even when my friend texted me to get dessert downstairs. I was tired and got a latte too, giving me the energy I needed to plow through the end of the game and book a good win. Exhausted now.

Might travel more for pokerz now that I don't have a job holding me back. Florida or Philly, maybe Boston.

Winding down the day’s session, bluffed the wrong guy and lost an AA all in pre to KK, made some back at 5/T with KK until the game got short and bad. Trying to get a little less stuck before calling it a night 8 hours in. The plo games were mediocre today anyway. Down around $1,400 now.

GL! I'm assuming you've mentioned this earlier but: where in the country are you playing? Glad to see you have access to so many mixed games. I can't imagine where that would be outside Vegas.

Thanks a lot! It's been a pretty good ride all things considered, I hope you enjoy the stories (all true btw). Someone at the table said I was the most interesting person he knew the other day, wanted to follow me around with a camera. I said I wanted my privacy, pretty funny given I keep this blog which is anonymous until you put two and two together and figure out who I am. (He may or may not have been inebriated when he said these things lol.)

Maryland. I am glad they run too (sorta...the big one is not good for my paycheck at the end of the month). Thanks for reading!

Speaking of, the big game hasn't run lately, me and my friend have not been playing either. 10/20 is running today though and I will probably hop in.

Played some 10/20 mix for a couple hours and booked a small win but the 5/T looked too juicy so I left for that and sure enough won AK pre to AQ and AA to QQ and booked a $3k win! Was going to wait for a plo seat to open up but I am going to call it an early night instead and watch some high stakes poker episodes.

Couple hands from 5/T, tilted short stack who just got almost felted raises to $30 with $150 behind, I 3! btn AKo, bb cold calls, shorty jams, I re-jam $850, bb calls and we run it twice, KJJ and K-high, we scoop both against AQs of BB and chop against shorty's KJo.

Not long afterwards, utg straddle is on and I open AA utg 1, two callers and co 3! (yippie!) to $275, and now btn cold 4! (OMG!) to $615, folds to me and after a little tank I jam for $1,800, one of the shorter stacks calls for less ($600), btn tank calls and I scoop both versus btn's QQ and shorty's K9s! Reminds me why I enjoy poker so much.

Getting back in the habit of winning is a good feeling. Not really missing the big mixed game much anymore.

My 5/T results have really improve the past year or two, winning at 10 bb/hr. over a small sample. Probably due to my game selection.

I need to get into better shape! I've lost a lot of weight and muscle over the past few years. I am starting a fitness challenge for myself, gain 10 pounds by the end of the year. Will involve eating more and exercising regularly and more reps.

Winning again today, a little of everything: 5/T, big mix, plo. Booked a small win at mix! Not a great line up either. Very happy, seems my lessons at the lower limits are starting to pay off. Not making it a habit though and I left as soon as I was up (for the second timeĀ…). Won a nice one multi-way with a pat 8 in badeucy. Closing in on a $2k day, going to call it soon and cap it off with a smoothie.

Edit: won a multi-way all in with q-high rundown, moved to really juicy main game. Will probably grind here a little longer.
