Nice work Johnny. Pretty excellent to have a side hobby bringing in 10k/year.

Completed my 10th year of 1/3 NL in 2019.

After a few pretty lean years I've bounced back with two decent years in a row, this year booking my biggest hourly since the glory years of 2012 - 2013 (which I'm very happy with since the conditions are so much worse). So I'm very pleased with the results my recent Super Nit approach has been getting me.

Booked a record 583 hours in 2019 (beating my previous record by 0.5 hours) at 7.36 bb/hr.

Here's the good, the bad and the ugly over my 10 years at 1/3 NL:

2010: 8.81 bb/hr over 125 hours.
2011: 8.63 bb/hr over 386 hours.
2012: 10.39 bb/hr over 411 hours.
2013: 11.83 bb/hr over 568 hours.
2014: 6.87 bb/hr over 554 hours.
2015: 2.63 bb/hr over 582 hours.
2016: 6.61 bb/hr over 540 hours.
2017: 2.93 bb/hr over 578 hours.
2018: 7.12 bb/hr over 527 hours.
2019: 7.36 bb/hr over 583 hours.

Overall: 7.02 bb/hr over 4854 hours.

Ended 2019 on a ridiculous Postle-like heater, going 24-4 over 240 hours at 11.67 bb/hr. I'm convinced I'm cheating, but I'm just not sure exactly how I'm doing it.

And on my 5th-to-last session of the year, I broke the $100K profit mark at my 1/3 NL game. Pretty happy about that accomplishment. Never had one lesson!

Was really hoping my PokerJournal app would do something like this at the $100K profit point but no such luck:

Thanks Corny!

Nice results posted by you as well, with the most impressive being how you managed to bounce back from that mind**** of a downswing; nice job!

First chart are my individual session results throughout 2019.
Second chart is my 2019 accumulated profit/loss.
Third chart is my all-time results from NL poker, mostly $1-$3 and $2-$2-$3.

First two years were obviously bad (-$15K). When I got laid off in 2018, I spent a little more time on poker and studying and was able to get into the Black for the first time ever - obviously a great feeling. I’m now in my 4th year of playing poker, but seeing other people’s charts, I feel like mine has a lot of variance. I had issues with gaining momentum this year - I’d win some money and then proceed to lose it back, hence the up and down trend of my chart. Finally, towards the later part of the year, you see the graph trending upwards a little bit, but still with lots of ups and downs as opposed to more of a smooth upward projection.

Can you guys help me with what my leak may be based on the stats I’ve recorded? One speculation I have is that since becoming more serious about poker, I feel like I’m “trying too hard” as a low limit player who tries to apply higher-level strategy at these games. For example, I definitely see myself trying to bluff-catch and paying people off. I’ve made some enormous calls before that would awe the entire table. I’ve also made plenty of bad calls as well.

Any input is greatly appreciated! It’s the only reason I’m sharing my results, to gain feedback on improving my game.

FYI-I am fully employed since 2019 and been playing part time when my job allows it. As you’ll see in my stats, I logged about 435 hours with a winrate just shy of 60%. How does my winrate stack up against winning players? Am I barely a breakeven player?

I finished the year as follows

.25-50c Mix home games 133.50 hrs 14.91 $/hr 1990$ Profit
1-2/1-3/2-5 NLHE 16 hrs 81.56 $/hr 1305$ Profit
1-2/1-3/2-5 PLO 124.36 hrs 43.33 $/hr 5389$ Profit

Not much of the 1-2/1-3/2-5 is 2-5, so don't look into that much.

Looks like I need to host less house games and play more PLO at the casino!

I generally play low stakes no limit hold em. I’m just smart enough to calculate a win rate in BB’s/hr. As I change stakes I get a weighted average BB to use as the numerator. However, I will occasionally play limit hold em waiting for a seat in NL or limit Omaha H/L because I like the game. Can you factor in a limit BB or Omaha BB or PLO into the same B.B./Hr calculation? Certainly in terms of $$/hr it’s straightforward, seems less so in terms of BB / hr for blended play. Thanks.

If I recall (it's been over a decade since I've played Limit regularly), Limit is measured in BB (Big Bets, not big blinds) per hour. And if I recall, anything in the ~1 BB/hr would be considered pretty good (whereas ~1 bb/hr in NL would be considered fairly pedestrian). So not really comparable?

What do you guys think about these numbers? Seems like a large enough sample to determine i’m a winning player but not enough to know how much of a winning player. $1/$2 was live and that seemed to be the softest stake. probably even softer than .05/.10 online.
I think I can beat $1/$2 for $20/hour easy. .25/.50 was tough but seemed beatable for maybe 6-7bb/hour.
Thinking about making the move to live $1/$2 as it has been terribly soft every time I have played.
Would love to hear any thoughts on these numbers.
Also, my first time ever posting so my apologies if format is wrong!!

Already got 51 hours of volume in with a little Vegas trip!

Only managed a measly +$280 for the trip though 2 days of being completely card/draw dead, and a final session cooler (45 vs A3 & 22 all in on an A23 board, runner runner 4-flush) really hurt.

I won't comment on the on-line results (this is a LLSNL forum).

As for the 1/2 results, you're off to a great start... over lol 52 hours, which is literally next to nothing. Not saying you won't do good, just saying that shipping $20/hr may not be quite as easy as you think; or, who knows, maybe it will turn out to be. But you'll have a much better idea of this after getting in like 20x the volume you have at this point.

Right, I figured as much. 50 hours is nothing but as I said, I didn’t feel like I was running super hot or anything crazy. Felt I was best player at every table I played. Excited to get the volume in that I need to actually see!
