There is really no good answer in this situation. Sometimes being friendly and being predatory are exclusive. No problem to pick either one. And giving a patronizing answer still may be the only comfortable way out, but just don't delude yourself that the lines solve all.

What do you think? Do you think blatantly moving and keeping IP of the reg-whales is foolish?
Depends on pool size. Continously moving into position in a small pool is very bad manners.

You have a bad attitude though and they probably think you are a tool anyway so feel free to move into position.

I would give a "patronizing" answer for the same reason I don't wear earphones or sit stoically at the table: to mitigate the predatory nature of the game as much as possible, though I have recently began to question how much value there really is in this. In any case, if someone knows why I changed seats and is verbally giving me a hard time about it in front of other players who may not know, he deserves whatever response he gets.

The "hate seat 1/9" excuse is fine because those seats actually do suck. But I agree no excuse at all is better than a flimsy one.

So if someone asks you why you are changing seats you simply don't respond?

What some of you are really asking is...how to be social.

Some of those reasons are actually the only reasons for why I switch seats. I always like to sit in the 2,3,7, or 8 seat and will typically move if the opportunity arises.

The room I play at now doesn't have a consistent 2/5 game, but has a weekly 5/10 game. I'll be 21 shortly though, so I'm not in a rush to shot-take.

What an ignorant comment. Even if somebody pretends to make a deal about it, it'll surely fade after a few minutes to whereas you'll get to play hours of hands now in a more optimal position. I very blatantly move seats all the time, often when a good player is heading over to my table so I'll move over to the available seat open on my left. Sure they might make a comment about it but nobody is ever mad, they understand I'm just making a rational decision.

Updated results. 1/2 hourly improved to $32.62 while my overall went down slightly after some bad sessions in the 2/5 HO game and the 5/10 game. The 5/10 game is on Tuesday hence why I'm in the red.

What a crusher. I just realised... you had ONE (1) losing session in all of July even tho you put in significant hours.

I am 1500% envious. I can not even conceive the idea.

Thanks man appreciate the positive feedback. Yeah July was a pretty sick month for me, it was the first month I put in 200+hours.

2.5 hours. I started off getting a hotel room for the weekend, but ended up finding rooms in people's apartments to rent rooms from so I can stay for the weekdays if I chose. For July/August almost the whole month, coming home on the weekdays once each so the commute isn't that bad since I'm only doing it 4 times a month tops.

Big difference between moving into position against a "good player" (even though you play 1/2 and I doubt they are good) and constantly taking position against a whale in a small pool.

If a bad player feels he is being taken advantage of he will simply stop playing poker.

At 1/2 and 2/5 you really want the "good" players on your left. "Good" at these levels almost always = nit. Nits are great on your left. Make sure you aren't misapplying standard wisdom here.

Ha, I've wondered about this too. I say everything with a smile on my face, so it can be taken as a joke or serious by anyone who wants to take it whatever way they want.

I remember a month or so ago a good solid aggro player is about to be seated in the empty seat to my left, so I quickly slide over. He makes some comment, I joke some lame-o jokey comment, and the dealer then blatantly says "no man, he just wants position on you". Awk. ward.

I have a douchbag image in my room (surprise surprise), so I just tell people straight up why I move.

Works great.

I respond with something like "not at all. I just don't want him to have position on me," and do an exaggerated fake shudder.

Usually people don't want to acknowledge that I am a good player (because I am a douche, ldo), so they won't purposely get position on me.

My sleep schedule sucks. I've put in 510 hours since February (~16 hours/week) while working a full time job for 50 hours a week.

Here's a typical Tuesday day in the life
- wake up @ 7am
- get to work @ 8am
- leave work @ 6-630pm, relax for 30-45 minutes
- get to casino @ 830pm
- play until 2-3:30am
- get home @ 3-4am
- wake up @ 7am and take the next night off from poker

When people seat change to my left, I seat change to their left to see if they do it again...but only because they are regs. Just letting them know I know what's going on there.

For the record, I will always change to a corner seat (2/3/7/8 at 9-handed table) if given the chance. So much more room.
