Sucks, but it's standard around here. Only a few decent games and I feel like the hosts all get together and price-fix. They do provide nice amenities though (drinks, individual dinners, freerolls, high hand sometimes, etc).

Small sample size, obv, but Bay 101 is the softest 500NL live game I've ever played in. I think at least $50/hour is sustainable there. Nice going, dude.

Yeah I'm hoping for $35-50/hour...the long term win rate anticipation for this game is killing me...

The lack of aggression, bet sizing tells, poor bet sizing, and scared money make it a great game.

Thought I would share my results for the year thus far. I used to be an online 200NL grinder who played some live on the side, Towards the end of my online grinding I found that I was making more playing 2/5 than I was 6-tabling 200NL (lol).

98% of my session are 2/5 or 5/5. I have lost in most of the 5/10 shots I've taken and some events in my life have caused me to massively draw from my poker bankroll. So that's why I haven't moved up to 5/10 full time yet. I do have a full-time job despite all the hours I play live poker.

I've noticed that compared to other big winning regs I win a much lower percent of my sessions. I think I am pretty aggressive compared to many regs and that results in me having many big sessions both winning and losing. No idea what my long term win rate is over 2000 hours because I don't intend to stay at 2/5 for that long.

Here are my overall results:

By day of week:

Graph by sessions played:

I miss my January and February heaters

Hope the end of the year is as good as the beginning of the year and hopefully I'll be at 5/10 by then.

I am rich and cheap. How do you think I got so rich?

Real answer is poker income pro has some weird multiple bankroll glitches (I stake people) and I never used the tip feature after like two sessions.

Nice.

What's different in 5/10 that your shots aren't working out?

You average 10hrs/day 7 days a week combined working/playing. Any worries about maintaining that pace?

Umm I just am hesitant to do the same aggressive things I do at 2/5. All the 5/10 regs know me and know I win pretty big but that I'm kind of scared at 5/10. Plus I had to withdraw massively from my BR early this year for personal reasons which made my later shots on scared money.

No worries about the pace. I am 23 just out of college and I'm pretty hungry. Half of my friends work on Wall Street (I work in finance too but not in NYC) and they work 80-100hrs a week. I am basically relaxing compared to them. I started dating my gf 3 months ago and my hours have certainly dropped so there's that.

I suppose this is the thread for random ramblings/results from sessions.

Was a former online microstakes 6max player and former small-midstakes mtt-er. Did well in those and turned initial deposit into thousands. Cashed it all out and moved to live 1/2 a few months ago.

I think I'm averaging 100hrs/mo. at the moment which isn't great, but I'm still a full-time student with a part/full-time job on the side.

My win rate has been ~8$/hr for the entire few months. I think I'm learning a ton about live poker and about the various dynamics that come into play that don't online. I'm also 21 and it has taken me a while to get used to the rep that earns me at the table in and of itself. I'm also an aggro player, compared to 1/2 players I'm top 99.5% of aggro players. The live-tilt is something that has taken a while to get used to.

All in all things are going really well, I wish I had more time to play. I tend to play marathon sessions (~30hrs) every 10-days rather than shorter ones just because of my work schedule and the distance to the casino.

My one whine is that I'm literally thousands of dollars -$EV in all-in situations, but there isn't much to be done about it. Hoping to move to 2/5 soon enough, but we will see.

Hey.

I've accumulated many posts via u/ssnlFR and other sub-forums along with a handful here the past few weeks. I'm a former 50/100nl FR grinder on Stars/degenerate/addict converted to 1/2 live/school/semi-employed/sober person. The bridge between those two pursuits included 6 weeks of grief/depression (wah wah no more ipoker) and a hopefully final run as a pure degenerate: -2.3k at the Soaring Eagle HPT and -2.2k playing 1/2 @ MotorCityCasino in Detroit. Those loses, compulsive, and fueled by typical BF emotions, were substantial and bit very far into the money I was willing to play poker with.

I worked a bit to get my head out of poker for a while/put money in the bank/do something conventional, but I couldn't stay away for long. Though I'm taking a summer Econ class and signed up for a full semester starting September, my heart's definitely still aligned with poker, though hopefully more separated than not from a lot of the bad habits I'd picked up over the years. Since the last week of June, and while working 40hr/wk labor job all of July, I've played 26 sessions at MCC, winning 21, over ~75hrs for a total of ~2.2k. I've been buying in for $50 up to four times a session (less of tilted) and while not rat-holing I've still ran absurdly hot playing the small stack, and most likely quite hot playing closer to a full stack too, though hard to tell since I wasn't jamming tons and crushing showdowns as much.

I know shot-taking online was obviously game/table dependent, and it's impossible for me to say how the games @ MCC compare to wherever else you guys may play, but I'm thinking about trying out 2/5 sometime in the fall and am curious about what you guys do for BR strategies. I'm planning on buying into 1/2 for $100 once I hit 2.5k, and full buying in around 3.3k (despite my WR probably being higher so far while having a < 50bb stack due to runhot lol). Thinking about a 1BI 2/5 shot @ 5k, or a 2BI @ 6k. I'd probably shoot for it sooner, but despite winning consistently I can feel/am prepared (mentally) for the intense luck/variance experienced live. I think 4-6k is a solid BR for the 1/2 games I play in and wouldn't want to dip below that due to shots.

I probably won't be worrying about that for a bit. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I'd love to hear any comments about BR/shots/state of games/anything else. Feel free to hit me up anytime to talk poker, strat, life, and the sort. Look forward to chatting w/you guys.

~Mike

Hi guys,

i kept track of my results for the past 2 months and one thing that stands out is that when I win, i typically win 1 buy in or less (100 to 200bb, i play 200bb deep) but when I loose i typically loose 2 buy ins.

I was thinking of setting my "stop losses" at 200bb, maybe buying for 200+50 for top ups, and leaving if I ever have around 50bb. this will take a lot of will as most people feel like gambling the last few bb, but I find it a huge leak.

Another promise I made to myself is to leave the moment I am thinking "oh one more round, or oh i will leave in 30 mins"

Lastly, I will no longer play longer sessions trying to break even as I noticed this happens very rarely.

I could not find a trhead on stop losses, if anyone has an idea pls let me know.

Any other advice?

Two months is a completely meaningless sample size. It's true that you shouldn't be playing when you're tilted or when you're tired or your mind just isn't there but that's my only recommendation on judging when to quit or take a break.

Taking breaks is very important though. Walk around, scan other tables looking for a table change or go grab a bite to eat. Stop trying to set up a silly buy in system or stop loss system just play your best always and if you can't at any given moment walk away for a break or end the session.

If it bothers you that much to lose a buyin or three then you might be underrolled.

Agree 100%. If I ever get to where I have like $40 remaining in a 1/2 game, I know I need to either add chips or quit, because my play gets very spewy/gambly with such a short stack.

Mike I would never take a shot at 2/5 until I had like 7k. Oh and 2/5 at Mcity is a meh game (harder than most 2/5 games across the US as a whole)

Keep grinding and do your thing at 1/2 and buy in larger. I know exactly how Mcity plays on a regular basis.

Like we have briefly discussed before, if you want to find a good (actually better game than mcity) I have a list of good rooms to play where people reload regularly at 1/2. PM me.

Hey guys I haven't posted much on my winrate in this forum but here is a bit of a background on me and my situation: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/32...ce-go-1081815/

After that post I have won another $500ish and my profit this year is +4585 over 335 hours for an hourly rate of $13.68

I have won 7 straight sessions since reading "The Poker Mindest" and it is helping me tremendously, and allowing me to grow my bankroll which is increasing my EV by taking profitable risks and abusing my table image. It also helps me cope with variance to the point where little/nothing makes me down.

I highly recommend this book as it is allowing me to hopefully play poker for my sole income (something I have wanted to do for 2 years now) until my internship in April 2012.

This year I started playing full-time in Jan. on Stars and FTP. I won about $1500 from BAP in a $55 tourney and used this as BR to play guaranteed tourneys up to $10+1 and $2r. I was a small loser over the first two months and started winning in March. I upped it to $24+2's, $30+3's and $5r, mixing in some $10r and $50+5's. I continued winning until BF with almost all my $ on FTP(losing on stars). I took what little $ I had left and played live cash and luckily ran good right away since I was way underrolled. Since then I've been grinding 2/5(mixing in 5/10 sometimes), playing some live MTT's. I started posting recently to try to improve my game. I'm looking for feedback from anyone in a similiar place. I'm posting results mainly because I'm curious as to how this looks to someone who has been playing live cash at these limits longer than me. Prior to BF I only segregated my results to live/online. April is kinda screwy because some of these days are MTT's some are cash I just can't remember, it wasn't until May that I started labeling sessions as cash/MTT etc. I label each session with the state I was playing(no good reason). All cash sessions are around 8 hrs. in length almost all being @2/5. I'm pretty flat so far this month.

Nice volume and results. Play less live MTTs IMO. Do the big ones but if you're grinding out a solid profit at 5/10 it is kind of a waste to play smaller tourneys.

I've only played a few 5/10 sessions this year and I'm not beating it. Most live cash sessions are 2/5. Most MTT's I play are $300-$600, I played a couple over 1k but sold pieces.
