re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

Got a job hoping to get funds to play poker.

Get promoted. Now I have funds to play live poker!

Promotion comes with 10 hour minimum workdays and people calling me on my days off. Feel like I don't have enough time to play poker.

Here's what I've been able to put in since the promotion. 10 sessions with a couple of huge losses. Down about $50 overall.

My bank roll is at an all time high. I'm pretty pumped up about having a 2/5 roll. There is no point to this post other than to brag. I'm rolled! It's awesome!

While I think its completely fine to be playing 2/5 with 10k, you are nowhere near 'rolled'. As long as there is a game to drop down to when a runbad happens. and it will happen.

20BI is more than sufficient for a poker-only roll.

That's a good thing. I had close to a 20 buy in downswing over the summer in MDL's 2/5 500 game. It WILL affect your play if the downswing goes long enough to put you up against it. (Your last "poker dollar" is on the table.)

If u lose 20BI then it has a LOT to do with you as the player. U probably got way to aggro and/Or started calling down light. I'm sure u ran bad, but losing 20 us such an anomaly (if u don't suck)

Yikes 20BI downswing. That might be the highest I've ever heard of from anyone who claims to be winning. 20BI strictly poker roll in 500 max 2/5 should be more than enough for anyone beating the game.

In 1k+ hrs my largest downswing was about 12-13 BI and this was due to a high variance, aggressive style, lots of draw shoving with pretty much no FE, overplaying hands, sick coolers/bad beats along with a big chunk of bad play.

I can't even imagine what kind of stuff would have to happen to dust off 20BI. I don't mean that in a bad way, I'm sure it's possible especially if you are playing in very deep games. Makes me sick just thinking about it

It was pretty ugly. I know of one reg in the room who is a solid player, solid winrate over 3500 hours of 2/5 and had a 27 buy in downswing and a 325 hour breakeven stretch.

I think losing 20 big would be fairly easily.

That's 2 bullets 10 times. Certainly possible.

Then again I'm a scared money BR nit

Yup. "If you are on a 20bi downwing then you are more likely to be a bad player than not" is a terrible misconception.

It doesnt happen that often but it does.

There are a ton of terrible players on a life heater (for now) and they dont even know it.

I've never won 3+ buyins in a session. Probably only 300 hours played lifetime but is that normal?

if u lose 20 buy in you are not game selecting or u are being overly aggro or u are getting involved with RIO hands

Orrr variance?

Also how many % of live players even have 20BIs in their roll lol.

re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

There's pretty close to a zero percent chance I would hit a 20 buyin downswing.

Think my record is 10, 200bb buy-in, I am far from a nit. Thousands of hours.

If your losing 20 buy ins -

1. Your not as good as you think.
2. You are spewing like an ATM machine in big pots.

That is not variance.

edit: to clarify, this means I lost 5k, not 10k. Considering 100bb a "buyin" even though I am actually buying in for 200bb

double edit: When I lost the 5k. probably 1500 of it was disgustingly terrible mistakes.

I agree with Rob. Something is very wrong if you lose 20bi. Your play has been affected, you are spewing and probably bluff catching on terrible spots

haha wow. look what I started.

Based on my limited experience with my pool. I think I probably would be good with 10 BI honestly. But I'm a stickler.

Take it from P4MS. It's not an all star line up.

20buyin downswings are hard to accomplish but perhaps its possible when you start playing something like 5/T and crushin that game for 10bb/hr?

Actually, 5 200bb buyin DS sounds enough likely to come across.

re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

How many of you guys are MDL regs? I just finished my law school apps so now I can grind nonstop until fall! I'm gunna be hitting the tables hard for the next 7 months or so and trying to move up to 5/10 at some point(I'm a 2/5 reg now.) I'm down to meet up with some of you guys.

and re: 20 buyin downswings

back in the days of rush poker on fulltilt, they happened sometimes but were at least half tilt

if you lose 20 buyins at 2/5 500 max livecash.... your game def has issues
