re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

Never?

How long before it has a significant impact on your win rate?
1000+. But it really depends on your win rate, and what a 'buy in' is for you in terms of big blinds, and how long it takes you to lose those buy ins.

If you are winning at 10bb / hour for 1,000 hours that's 10,000bb that you've won.
So, if you play for 10 hours one weekend, and lose 3 x 150bb buy ins:
10,000 - 450 = 9,450 / (1000 + 10) = 9.36bb / hour.
So, those 3 buy ins result in a .64bb/hour difference. Or rougly 6%.

If you are winning at 8bb/hour for 750 hours, but your buy in is 100bb, and it took you 1 hour to lose them all because you were on monkey tilt:
8 * 750 = 6,000 - 3 x 300 = 5,700 / 751 hours = 7.59bb/ hour. Or roughly 5.1%.

So how do you define 'no effect'? 1% change? 2% change? .5% change?
To be honest, it's all sort of irrelevant anyway. Being up or down 1 - 5 buy ins at any point from any other point is pretty standard and well within normal game swings.

I'm at 2500 hours currently. If I add a 500 hour break even stretch to my observed sample my hourly drops from 83 to 66. Losing a buy in here or there does not really move the needle for my sample.

It doesn't take that much.

I was getting kind of mad/nervous when my hourly dropped under $15. It took (in addition to a ton of studying) 150+ hours of making almost $4K to raise my hourly to $17.50. I wasn't even 500 hours when it dropped into the $14s.

Players put way too much effort into worrying about how much they make.

does LA has "softer games" in general than Vegas?

..btw, what would be a ranking chart (from hardest #1 to softest #4) of "good games" @ 1/2, 1/3, 2/5 NHL for the 4 main zones: Vegas, LA, Atlantic City, Florida

Florida, LA, AC, Vegas in my experience

Vegas games aren't so much tougher as they are tighter, in that even the spots are playing a relatively nitty style so their mistakes are less costly.

Somebody else could tell you something completely different ive only had maybe a 100hour sample size in each of these places.

Making 10bb/hr in Vegas is a beast? Hard to believe.

My experience has been that AC was tough because of the number of grinders/pros (semi-pros probably) and the lower table selection at the good rooms. Borgata and Taj had lots of ****ty tables (although Borgata was better).

Vegas had a little more flexibility in terms of table selection to find a good game. Later at night and in the rooms less known for poker you can find spew-monkeys. Likewise the big rooms had enough tables with soft spots that a TC or two fixed any issues (or a room change if you need a stretch).

So Vegas was softer in my experience.

Detroit's pretty soft too, at most tables.

Haven't gotten to play in LA/FL yet.

Stay away from Florida. Games are dead. Players are solid.

Florida games were laughably bad when I played there years ago. Borgata in AC isn't as soft as it used to be but good tables can be found with a table change or two.

Yea, but many of them suck. And an overly aggro wannabe is sometimes a lot more profitable than a fit or fold tourist.

Extremely small sample size - but at 17.36 over 160 hours at my local 1/2 game. Definitely some serious leaks in my game, but overall I am happy considering I had a 30 hour 950bb downswing in the middle.

re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

Assuming that I don't play tomorrow, starting August 1st last year after summer school ended, 1 year of playing more seriously, reading/posting 2+2 at least 30 minutes every day, trying to not be a spaztastic lagtard maniac, results:

Cash (Mostly1/2, a bit of 1/3, 2/5, 5/5):

lolBinkaments (Mostly $75 - $150 range, a bunch of $340's, a few $550's, and a $1,500 Milly Maker, come on one time!)

Total:

So much more to learn still.
But thanks to 2+2 for everything so far.
