Re: Realistic $/hr @ 2/5 NL Live

~$30-50 an hour seems about right. Either your friend is on a heater or the people are lulz bad.

The problem with poker as a profession is that nothing is constant.

Are you going to look at your cards?

Would you consider that a leak?

What is an expected monthly win rate for a good 1-2 live player?

Just curious to know how well some of you guys do playing live....

I did about 5 weeks (2-3 sessions a week) of live poker last year and "cashed out" by profiting a little over a $1000

The problem is that you play so little hands, have to play atleast 4-5 hours, and have to drive back and forth to the destination. Plus, you have to deal with the regular poker variance that comes along with it. (bad beats, donk players).

There would have been a chance I lost all of my money hitting a cold streak had I kept playing.

All of these costs made the $1000 profit not really worth the effort, which is why I quit.

How is it for some of you? I'm thinking about getting back into it again because: A) I enjoy poker B) I am good enough to make money at the lower levels because I play fundamental poker.

If I play fundamental poker and stay disciplined, what kind of win rate can I expect to make in 12 months?

Thanks for the help

Re: What is an expected monthly win rate for a good 1-2 live player?

Depends on where you live, game selection, times you play, what the min/max of the game is (This matters a ton!), how good you are, anywhere from $10-25ish an hour longterm so.. $1200 - 3000 a month, assuming 30hour weeks..

I'd say if you make ~$25k a year playing 1/2, it's very good.

Edit: 50 weeks x 30 hours a week (easily doable) x $15/hr (not so easy but doable) = $22,500 a year.

Sustainable Win Rates @ LLSNL

Hey everyone,

Without trying to make this a brag/BBV type post.... what sort of win rates is everyone typically able to achieve playing LLSNL? and what is considered a good and bad win rate to have?

I've been thinking about this lately as I'm starting to keep a detailed log of all of my live games and I'm pretty sure that even with variance and a lot of leaks in my game, that the win rates achievable (per hand) in live play are massively > win rates achievable online.

Would there be a measurement such as 5BB's/hour which could be compared to 5BB's/100 that some people achieve online?

** Discussion about variance live compared to variance online may also be applicable here.... as well as discussion about comparative rake-profit etc....

Your thoughts?

IMO, broadly speaking, live games are unfathomably softer than online to the extent where I don't see how anyone could possibly lose playing live.

Re: Sustainable Win Rates @ LLSNL

Glad you asked actually cuz there's a thread somewhere else that goes into this in more detail can't remember where I saw it a couple weeks ago... but I'd also like some of the regular live players here opinions. Specifically what would you pro players consider to be a solid winrate per hour playing:
1/2 with 10% $4 max rake (add $1 for BBJ if you like)
and
2/5 with $5/half hr time charge and $1/hand BBJ

its so vague that the best answer is "it depends". Somewhere between
$18 and $45 for 2/5 per hour.

Is there any more info that would allow you to give a more accurate answer or do you mean its just player-dependent?

I just grinded through the most recent 6 pages of threads and didn't really find anything remotely close to what this thread is about... the closest was "winable rake amounts" and maybe "Is LLSNL become a fish tank" which is more a blogament

re: Winrates, bankrolls, and finances

How many hours do you guys think is a large enough sample size to determine if your winrate is close to what your long-term winrate will be?

So far I'm at about $10.50/hr at 1/2, playing at a fairly tough poker room w/ a pretty low rake. Sample size is about 85 hours, suffered one horrible beat for half a buyin. Never won a pot through a bad beat.

my feeling based on my research on this forum is, 500 hours to have any sort of idea at all, 2000 hours to have a pretty good idea.
