Pretty low sample size obviously at exclusively $1/$2 and $1/$3. I also table select in the sense that most of these games were played at casinos during their WSOP live tournament events which I think breeds better games. Unfortunately for me, the closest casino is closing in on 2 hours with high gas prices, high rake, and variance just not making it worth it for me to play regularly. That's why I've stuck mainly with home games and a ton of online poker before Black Friday. I just started back playing regularly online for the first time since Black Friday. It's pretty humbling having to start over at the very bottom, but I reached a point where some online poker is better than no online poker.

Home Games - $2,447.18 total profits or $17.23 profit per session over 142 sessions also skewed, but downward, as many of those games included were back during the poker boom and we were just learning and playing for $1 buy-in or $5, $10, or whatever lol small amount.

Needless to say, live poker makes a small percentage of my career poker earnings and online poker has ruled the day, but if a casino ever popped up closer to us or if we moved, I'd love to play somewhere regularly and build up a bankroll for a $2/$5 game. I had beaten $100NL FR for well more than 30 buy-ins and hundreds of thousands of hands on both Stars and Full Tilt before Black Friday, so I think I have the skillset to beat a typical $2/$5 NLHE game.

I have a $10k roll. I could get more from my life roll (is that what you call it?), but my agreement with my wife is that I can only lose this $10k. My plan, of course, is to to double, triple, etc. not lose. If I do lose it, I'll have to grind my roll out of the home game, or take shots with the odd buy-in I can scrape together. I only have access to a 2/5 game with a $300 max buy in (aside from a small home game, which I crush, I know, that's not saying much). I've been playing about 2-5 times per year since 2002, and tracking results since 2010, and lost some money. I plan to get Poker Journal, but until reading this thread, I've been tracking my results in a spreadsheet manually. Oh, just to be clear, my roll starts in 2013, so the 2012 and 2011 losses don't count.

I think many of my big losses come from trying to play LAg, instead of TAg. I have a gut feel (similar to the discussions on this thread recently) that LAg well played is more profitable than TAg well played, but also more difficult. I have several things planned for 2013: (1) play tighter again, and stop trying to play LAg until I perfect/improve my TAg and prove I can beat the game that way; (2) play more sessions (hopefully about once a week. I used to only play week days and end up playing in tougher games. Now I plan to play Fri. or Sat. nights; (3) record at least three hands per session and post some of them in this forum.

Maybe after a coupla months I'll post results here again. Any advice re what I should post, be more concise, or am I missing anything in addition to other advice? Thanks.

ok. I'll convert it all to hours. Going forward though, I'll have it in Poker Journal, so I won't have to convert. Thanks. My question is more about my plan though, than about my win rates. (Actually, they are loss rates mostly so far.) I thought it would be respectable to show my starting years with losses. Hopefully this forum will see my progress. I actually owe many of the regular posters hear a big thanks. I have been this forum for several months and just started posting a few weeks ago. I think this forum has improved my game immensely.

The best I can do to convert this to hourly, is guess at an average session length. Average session has been about 5 hours. So just dividing all my wins and losses by 5 hours gives the following win/loss rates for each year:
(Plus adding today's 5.5 hours for up $876. This one is not an average. It's my first session with an actual, recorded hours, thus accurate hourly.) Also, having played two Friday nights in 2013 now, I think the game is amazingly soft. It's like my eyes have opened. I know this is a small sample size, but I can just feel the difference. The average player is just much worse on a Friday night than Tuesdays to Thursdays.

2013: Up 1446 in 15.5 hours = $93/hr. or 18.7 bb/hr
2012: lost 2454 in 35 hours = -$70.11/hr or -14 bb/hr
2011: Lost 419 in 30 hours = -$13.97/hr or -2.8 bb/hr
2010: Lost 600 in 10 hours = -$60/hr or -12 bb/hr

Ya, but it's easier to log sessions and I'd say most people have similar session lengths and can roughly figure their average hours per session.

Huh? If you're not using some kind of tracking software, then just write down what time you get there, what time you leave, and how much you won/lost. Easy way to find hourly.

Mathematically it's easy, but for me realistically it's just one more thing I don't want to keep up with. Maybe if I was a professional.

If someone is trying to improve their game and take poker seriously (whether you're a pro or not) one of the easiest things to do is to keep a log(inaccurate ones don't count)

You have a smart phone.

When you buy in chips, take out the phone and mark the starting time.

When you cash out, take out the phone and mark the end time.

You have to be one lazy mofo to not be able to do simply these two things.

Just what the doctor ordered last night. Finally up on the year after 44 hours to start 2013. Was running very cold until last night. My results so far:

$2/5: 27 hours, +$1,010

January 2013: +$800, $18.40/hour
If you subtract my large win last night I was -$1300 to start the year.

Last year I was +13.2k over 440 hours $30.50 an hour at $1/2.
