I started grinding out a br from a $200 shot at 1/2 in july '12 and managed to grind up all the way to a 10k br by december...and then hit a rather nasty downswing in december. blaah.

Ended the year with a ~5 bb/hr winrate, but that was closer to ~8 about a month ago

200$ shot to 10k in 5 months. That's impressive, I always respect the guys who can do that.

Then you have the guys at commerce who start at the 200$ tables and move up, who win like 5k in one day.

@BrokeDonk did you go on a heater? And what does a live heater look like?

Serious questions too, running hot to me is I can't lose for 2 weeks.

my biggest winning session at 1/2 was ~700 and at 2/5 was ~$1100.

I actually had a couple nice upswings and a couple nasty downswings.

I went from 200 -> ~3000 -> ~800 pretty quickly then just grinded (ground?) my way back to around 2000 where I then went on a sick heater where I went 26/30 in my sessions and moved up to 2/5 in the middle of that heater and got to over $10k. Then I promptly got bitch slapped back down to 1/2 by a lot of runbad and decent amount of playbad.

So here I am. Starting 2013 overrolled for 1/2 but not quite comfortable enough to play 2/5 again.

A live poker heater is a magical thing. You always get one or two big hands a session where you either cooler someone or they massively overplay their hand. Everyone always folds to your bluffs and calls your value bets. It's wonderful.

Why don't you mix in some 2/5 on the weekends or something instead of I am a "1/2 player" or "2/5 player"?

Live heater 26/30 is magical. I didn't know someone could run that hot in lowstakes in 5 months time.

Statistically Whats the difference between running up 2500 @ 2/5 and then losing it and running up 2500 an walking away?

Should both scenarios be considered biggest wins?

how you measure it but winning 2500 one session and losing 2500 the next doesn't feel too hot

I had a sick heater/run-good month from November-December this year, part of which was posted earlier in this thread (haters gonna hate?). Nothing better than when you can't miss, flop a set every time you have a PP, and all of your AI's hold up when you're ahead. Between 11/16 and 12/18 I had 23/26 winning sessions including my best-ever 16-session win streak and reached my goal of winning $10k in a month. One of the losing sessions (11/24) was from playing for about 30 minutes before hitting a show and then going home, so I don't really count that one, but I did play so it goes on the list.

Then I promptly had a 4-session downswing of -$1500 and after that a 4-session upswing of +$2400, haven't played in a few days since I've been sick but will probably get back at it tonight. All of it at $1/2, mostly at Red Rock with some Venetian mixed in on a couple of weekends. Some of the weird buy-in amounts are from topping off my stack instead of going busto before rebuying, max buy-in is $300.

You live in vegas play at Red Rock 1/2 and one of your goals is to win 10k in a month at Red Rock. That sounds absurd. Maybe you can shed some light on how the games are there.

I suspect Red Rock is small, very passive, nit infested and not a lot of tables.

But very sick run, I have been waiting years to run that hot. I know its possible, I just have to have faith I guess.

My goal was to win $10k in a month, doesn't matter where it is. I've had a couple of $7k+ months before this but $10k was a good round number to strive for. Red Rock is just closer to my house so it's more convenient than driving to the strip every night. I guess you haven't been to RR but it's actually a really nice room with about 25 tables that are almost always full with a waiting list during peak hours. There are plenty of old nits and the average player is probably slightly better than the average strip tourist, but that doesn't mean the games aren't easy. Since I play there all the time I have good reads on all of the regs too, don't need to figure out the whole table when I sit down.

Nice job. How many hours did you put in? Do you have a target session length that you shoot for?

Thanks. I don't keep track of hours played as stated earlier in the thread. The hourly win rate really doesn't matter to me, only thing that matters is how much I win at the end of the day. Most of my sessions are 4-6 hours since I have a real job that I do during the week. By the time I make it to the casino it's usually 7-9 PM and I rarely play past 2 AM since I have work the next day, aside from weekends. I find that after about 6 hours without a break, I tend to get bored and start playing more pots than I should be and not playing my A game.

Thats a huge leak. Your projected hourly rate is pretty much the most important thing

Important to who? I play for fun, not to make a living.

Losing 2500 because of a full house vs quads cooler??? Absolutely no difference at all.

Losing 2500 because you played too long, got fatigued and made a stupid play. Big difference.

I have found that knowing when to quit is a +EV skill that many players lack. A meta game attribute that is extremely valuable yet almost impossible to quantify...

food for thought.

Point being crazy improbable crap happens.
A roulette wheel takes maybe 2 minutes per spin.
The 'average' casino likely has 5 roulette tables.
Most casinos are open 24 hours a day, but only run tables games for maybe 60% of that.
And maybe 50% of the wheels are in use at any time the casino is open.
There are roughly 10000 casinos in the world.

30 times an hour x 24 hours a day x 5 tables x 60% x 50% x 10000
On any given day, a roulette wheel is spun 1.08million times.
Odds to have 19 7 times in a row, 1 in 3.4 billion.
This should happen once every 10 years. That's some fun trivia for you.

The thing with the skill of knowing when to quit; is that it can't be measured. Most people with that skill probably have mubs.

Wow, this is actually gold from ILCD.

Once you start to look for reasons to quit, every single negative becomes an indicator even when it isn't.

Your wins/losses should have nothing to do with it
