I want to move up to play that game since the rake is much better but the minimum buy-in is 800 and I'm not sure I have enough bankroll to play that game.

The 2-3-5 NL at Bay 101, like a mile away, is 800 max buy-in (other than the deep stack table). I think the min buy-in is maybe 300. I think they take staggered up to $7 there... but maybe give that one a try?

Nittiness isn't a concept limited to just poker, it extends to all walks of life.

Not true of seniors. I frequently play in a retirement village and the oldsters drive Vettes, Astons, Maseratis, and Porsches, but not bc poker made it affordable for them. They can barely play poker.

I used to drive the car that held two world speed records and had been featured on the covers of US and EU magazines. I raced it at road courses and beat everything that is fast out of EU or Japan. Now I just don't care anymore. I drive a 5 YO minivan bc it's more comfortable.

Been tracking my results post covid (since the beginning of 2022)

Played around 620 hours between 2-5 to 10-20 ( i would say 65% 2-5, 25% 5-10 and 10% 10-20)

First 75 hours: heater making 180/hour

Around the 300 hour mark: downswinged to 38$/hour

At the 400 hour mark: heater to 66$/hour

Breakeven stretch until yesterday where i had my biggest losing session of the year now at my newest low: 34$/hour

So ya variance is a mother;$ker

These might be the most profound words of wisdom I've ever seen on this site.

Does anyone know what a potential winrate might be for your typical 1/3 game for someone who could probably beat 10NL/25NL online and maybe higher?

Depends massively on the rake structure and judging that I know you’re in Ontario, probably not very good news unless you’re close to Niagara.

I’ve regrettably found myself back in the poker room—like Doug Polk, my “retirement” lasted about two weeks.

I lost my job 4 months ago and…am still looking for a new one. We need SOME money coming in, and—while my current win rate is obviously unsustainable—I think it’s equally obvious that I can beat this game quite easily. So as much as I hate it, I don’t really see any better options. I could work at a gas station or whatever, but that would pay less than my unemployment.

I’m at least cutting down the hours, because going back to the old schedule would make me lose my mind.

Apologies to everyone who hated “$2-$100 spread-limit” posts.

I don't get your "soul crushing" experience and going back to poker at all, but that's for you to decide. I really enjoyed your posts, so keep 'em coming.

Weren't you already barely playing any hours? Even if you are a winner you could easily go on a 100 hour downswing or 300 hour breakeven stretch.

How about a 2BI shot?

Takes serious discipline to not overspend and move down in stakes quickly, though.

There is nowhere to move down to if you're shot-taking live 1/3, so the online analogy breaks down.

1/2 does still exist. I live in an area that it’s spread daily. I’ve also seen 1/1 put on a bravo board, though I didn’t see it get off, nor do I know if that gets off with any frequency

Something that has just recently dawned on me (saddened me?) is that it will be extremely unlikely that I'll reach 10K hours of 1/3 NL... due to the fact that it will inevitably be replaced by 2/5 NL as the lowest stake available (just as 1/3 NL replaced 1/2 NL as the lowest stake in our market 12 years ago).

We have 1/2 here as well but it generally plays bigger than a typical 1/3 game.

Right, wasn't paying attention to the stake. But, for me shot-taking would be 2-5, 5-10 from 1-2 or 2-5.

Or maybe 2-2 PLO from 1-2 Holdem.

Milestone update!

I passed the $10,000 line on the year at $1-$2.

On the other side: I’ve had three job interviews this week and it looks like my unemployment may finally come to an end. No more poker!

Congrats on the former... but much more congrats on the latter, imo.
