Yes, it is a lot. But back then it didnt feel like working at all and was still new and exciting. I can still put in long sessions but get burnt out after a few days and have no drive to just put in these insane 70+hr weeks anymore.
I think balance is important. I put in 35-45 hours a week right now and feel fresh and motivated every time I play. Take random days off all the time to mentally recharge. Seeing the outdoors plenty, working out, hiking etc.

I couldn't imagine playing 70+ hours unless I was in the midst of a 25 BB/hr heater.

Most people just consider how good the table is. It's good that you recognize that your own play is the other key factor.

This is extremely important. Learn to recognize when you are playing less than optimal (either tilty or tired). This is very difficult. It can also be even more difficult to quit a great game.

As for stop losses, some people use them and some people don't. However to say they don't have a purpose is ridiculous. Without stop losses there is no way I could have survived as a full time poker player. Others can, but with my style and my tendencies, I would have blown through all my moneys quick.

Hi all

I am just wondering what winrate a decent online player should expect to make live? If I can beat nl50 online should I be able to beat nl200 live?

Cheers all

@HitInTheNuts

You should be easily +EV at 1/2 with a solid winrate, probably > 10bb/hr without much effort

You're probably good at 2/5 too if you can handle having a $500 loss in a hand rather than a $50 one.

Depending how much you beat 50nl for, what casinos you go to, comfort level, blah blah, there's a chance you could beat 5T too

Easiest thing to do is start at 1/2, play it until your comfortable and move up when your roll allows it. Rinse/repeat

Should be no prob assuming you make necessary adjustments which may take a hundred hours or so. More if you are stubborn.

If you are smart enough and understand poker well enough to beat $50NL online, you are also smart enough to beat $2/$5 NL live. However, if you play live the same way you play online, you will get killed. Its a totally different game and Ive seen countless young online guys with all the confidence in the world get pummeled playing live and I never see them again.

Take it slow, make the proper adjustments which you should have no problem doing as along as you understand that there ARE adjustments to be made and you will do just fine.

Yup.

If you understand *why* you should take certain lines in certain situations online, you can adapt to the different ranges and player tendencies that are present in a live game and crush. If you've just learned wrote memorization of actions you'll get destroyed.

I know this magic number gets tossed around a lot, but I actually don't see *that* many significant hour giraffes here with this result.

$20/hr is way too much to hope for when we're talking about a new player over a significant sample.

I would also like to see a 6k hour plot.

$20/hr over long period in 1/2 is impossible for the simple fact that no one that good would remain at that stake.

Casual player that burns few hours a week can probably maintain that rate, but it would take a very special player pool for anyone to want to mingle in a 1/2 game over long extended period of time, even if it is profitable.

Im at 5$/hr over 110 hours! Still learning!

+1 for the 6k hours graph !

Not necessarily. You will need to make adjustments. After Black Friday many online players failed to make the necessary adjustments to successfully transition to the live game. From a technical standpoint you will be far superior than your opponents (which could make you overconfident). Still you won't understand all the nuances of live play to play optimally right off the bat.

The biggest struggle that I think most online players have with live is that it's extremely S L O W..ie around 25 hands an hour. It's difficult to stay disciplined waiting for hands while the mouthbreathers are playing so many hands.

Not everyone has higher stake options. And some people actually enjoy playing LLSNL, and winning at that clip is probably just an extra bonus.

Still, 10bb/hr "without much effort" paints too rosy a picture.

And you also have to be able to deal with the maddening fact that as the game becomes even better the number of hands per hour plummets.

He must have cranked out a huge number of hours at this point.

He's been posting here since long before my time and my predecessor's time if I recall right.

Yeah, I'm sure M's hours giraffe would be impressive and would give a pretty good example of different stretches one can go thru. Hope he's doing alright. If I recall, last time he came to the chat thread he mentioned how he'd been temp banned from his room.

Well he's crushing 1/2 and I believe it may have had something to do with commute to Red Rock being more convenient for him. Anyways, I've played with him and he's a very good player. I've also played with his buddy who is a 2/5 reg in Vegas and he's very good as well.
