I can't predict what info will prove useful so I tend to start wide and narrow over time.

Tracking top up is interesting to me if perhaps ultimately not very useful.

I just have a "total in" column. So I know if I was in for $750 that I bought in for $500 and topped off $250 worth throughout the session. I could have a column that calclutes total buy in off of this but thats just noise imo.

Really all you need to know is that you were in for $750

If I'm in a unique game I simply note it in the comments.

I don't keep tracks of buyins or rebuys at all. At the end of each session I just type in: date, hours played, profit, comments, and changes to BR. All my stats are generated using this information and it works fine for me.

So I've been fortunate enough to play well (run well?) in some tournaments this year, and therefore I'm selling shares for a slight premium for a tournament series that i'm playing in this weekend.

My questions is, how would people account for the extra premium in their win rate?

Example: I enter into a $200 tournament. I sell 20% profit for $45. The $5 is my fee essentially it covers my expected return. But should I just reduce my entrance fee for the tournament by the $5, should I increase my cash out? So, even if I didn't cash at all, I can say that I made $5 on the tournament.

Or what other ideas do people have?

I would have like a "subsidy" column or something and just have it all broken out.

So like (in columns not rows)

Total buy in: $200
Personal buy in: $160
% sold: 20%
Subsidy: $5

The reason to have it all is because like a $160 buy in tournament where you have 100% of your action will look the same on paper if you only record the net buy in, but in reality they are entirely different in payout structure to you.

I'd call your premium/profit a "subsidy" because it sounds fancy and that's kind of what they are doing.

2010: 23 sessions, $3,308 over 125:10 hours = $26.43/hr (8.81 bb/hr)
2011: 56 sessions, $9,993 over 386:10 hours = $25.88/hr (8.63 bb/hr)
2012: 53 sessions, $12,809 over 410:45 hours = $31.18/hr (10.39 bb/hr)
2013: 67 sessions, $20,162 over 568:20 hours = $35.48/hr (11.83 bb/hr)

Total: 199 sessions, $46,272 over 1490:25 hours = $31.05/hr (10.35 bb/hr)


December 2013 got off to an awesome start, booking my 3rd biggest win ever in my first session, but the remainder of the month I played bad / ran bad and actually lost money, but thanks to that first session I still booked my 19 consecutive winning month. During the Christmas break I got out 6 times / ~41 hours and actually lost 54 bbs, so the year kinda ended suckily.

I'm expecting 2014 to suck poker results-wise as I just don't see how I can keep bipping at this rate with my skill level. Obviously I play in the worlds easiest 1/3 NL game, but my guess is that I'll be quite happy shipping 10K this year for a moderate winrate. I guess we'll see what happens.

My previous roll got eliminated by life expenses, and I took a long break from poker. I started up again with $200 playing live 1/2 at the end of November. So, my 2013 consisted exclusively of the month of December. I played 81 hours in Dec at a $30/hr winrate. Small sample size, I know, but indicative of what I was doing with my previous roll, and happy with the roll rebuilding so far. Let's go, 2014!

Made a little over $59k in 2013, mostly at 1/2. December was pretty up and down, had my biggest downswing of the year, then got it all back and more last week of the year. 2014 off to a good start with a $656 win last night.

Thanks. I should have clarified, those results were at 1/2 100max, not 200max. So, I technically started with 2 BIs. I'm not planning on playing 200max until my roll is 4k. And my plan is to keep it 100% separate (i.e., no poker money out, no non-poker money in).

Gobbledygeek, what app are you using? Obv looking for a new tracking app. I downloaded Poker Income, but have already identified a couple things with it that bug me.

So I apparently fail at using Google Spreadsheet.

I can't get it to graph my profit/loss as a function of the date, or of the session number.
It just wants to graph both independently on the Y axis with no units on the X axis.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

I'm using PokerJournal (which is where my screen snapshots of those graphs came from).
