But you will still spend most of your sessions playing ABC.

Ok, my contribution to the winrate portion of the thread. Here are my 2012 numbers as a part-time player:

These sessions are 95% 1-2 NL with a $500 max buyin. I usually buy in for $320, and the average buyin is around $250. It'll play bigger than a $200 max buyin, but only about 10% of the player pool will buy in for the full $500.

I work most weekends, so of the 88 sessions, only 19 were Fri/Sat nights. Interestingly, Sunday nights are wacky and very profitable at my casino, as are Thursday nights for some reason.

Most of the year was spent on a short roll, so my standard deviation is on the lower side as well. I remember lolpony posting his stats and his was around $400/hr. Different styles, both work well in beating the game it would seem.

I'm hoping to kick this annoying breakeven stretch I've been in for the last 60 hours or so soon. Some extra money for Christmas would be nice.

Great numbers for $1/2 even deep. Well done

Thanks guys, I'm happy to have had a good year.

Here's the thing about this game: I would say at least 50% of the players I see have the capability of being winning players over short periods of time. Most of them wouldn't be big winners, but they'd be in the black. The problem is that the vast majority of those players don't have the discipline to play winning poker for long periods of time.

To see this for yourself, observe a brand new table with 10 fresh stacks on it. Those players will typically play tight, decent poker for the first 30-60 minutes. Then you'll see players loosen up due to boredom or tilt, which causes a cascade effect on the other players. Once seat 4 sees seat 10 calling a raise with K7o, the peer pressure to play well decreases and they start to follow suit. Also, seat 8 is now steaming since their QQ got beat by the same K7o, and now plays every pot for the next orbit.

To beat this game, all you need is strong fundamentals (Bart Hanson's podcasts are a good resource) and the discipline to fold that suited connector or small pair when you're not getting the right odds to call. Some hand reading skills don't hurt either, but those come with time.

About 75/25 winning vs losing sessions. Maybe 70/30.

It doesn't matter about the %. But a good number is about 60%. Make sure your winning sessions are longer than your losing sessions. That's why a stop loss is important. There is always an exception to every rule though, lol.

At 70/30, you can lose on average twice as much as you win and come out ahead.

7 x 200 = $1400.
3 x 400 = $1200.

I am a believer of winning more sessions than trying to have bigger wins.

I have a high win session rate. I'm 70% as well. But I don't sit more than 300bbs. My target is to win 300bbs.

I think its a mistake to play like I'm playing. I want to start putting in overtime hours with god seats. I want bigger wins instead of number of winning sessions. Ill rather lose fast or win big fast and try to play 600bbs deep like some of the regs I see. I don't know how they do that ****.

300bb+ is very hard to master because of the nature of the game. I am much better off trying to be the best 60bb-120bb player than 300bb player.

Standard for me too.
Although I'm at 65% win rate for my sessions.

WELL DONE! These stats are scary identical to mine for this year, hours and rate, I'll post my situation below this comment. What app is that? I like it a lot.

Ok guys, some of you may be familiar with my style, as I used to always post on here, but lately been busy. I plan to come around a lot more often in the meantime like I used to. So I have possibly a "steal" of a deal for staking... I have never been staked before, but here is my situation:

My stats: Last year I won $18.75 over 712 hours for $13,350 at 1/2. Living at home, this was my main source of income in 2010-2011 along with a temporary seasonal job that paid ok over the holidays. Also sprinkle in a couple 2/5 stints for <20, where I won just 1.5BI over that shot.

This year, with an internship in my field, my job forced me to play just 363 hours, but I feel my play has really evolved, making $30.55/hour at 1/2 with a couple 2/5 stints for <20hours, in which I won just 1 BI, so it doesn't really change my winrate much. I'd say I have run fine/slightly above average over this year, so maybe my true winrate is in the high 20's, I digress though. (fwiw I round my profit down to the nearest $10, and round up any hours to the next hour so my winrate is "pessimistic".)

I have my stats on EXCEL, and my boss was curious about this, so I showed him my graphs and hourly rates, etc. He is a pretty rich businessman, and was impressed with my consistency. I then told him I would make more but I don't play high enough stakes, etc. Well anyways, he wanted to invest in me, staking me $10k to move up to $2/5 and all I have to do is give him 10% return for 2013. We didn't speak of "risk of ruin" rules, but as far as I know I am free of risk of ruin. Would you take this offer? It seems like a slam dunk deal. I feel like this could really jumpstart me to move up with ease. I don't tilt, I play solid TAG with an emphasis on AG. I am not nitty, but when the average player makes a raise, my calling range is very small. So in other words, I play a 16/12 style (in general), and my largest downswing is around 6BI over the course of 28 hours, so I don't have ginormous downswings.

Also, curious as to what poker app is best, or the best couple for smartphones? I want to make it easier to track my stats in 2013 instead of relying on good old Excel. Thanks.

My 2012. I usually buy in a little shorter something which ill be remedying in 2013.

The local card house where I play a good bit rarely has anyone buying in for more than 100 BBs. This makes the game play more like a .50/1 game at times.

I'm not exactly ecstatic with 12.50 per hour but. I realize I need to work on my game quite a bit! Look to push this up to $18 per hour for 2013 through a combination of better play and buying in deeper at a casino that I will be frequenting much more this coming year.

I think you should stick to 1/2. All the 2/5 regs will eat you for breakfast and there is no money to be made.

And the app is called poker journal. It's great for risk of ruin calculations because it automatically does standard deviation per hour and per session. I think it's $13 but its exclusively for apple. You can retroactively add sessions and it has an excel export, so you can keep adding to your original spreadsheet.

I'm not going to post a screenshot of mine until I hit $70/hr at 2/5.

Thanks, it's Poker Journal for iPhone. Best $13 I've spent on apps IMO. Really helps me keep my sessions in perspective when I go through hot or cold streaks.

Not bad at all considering the shallow stacks. Don't underestimate the boost your winrate gets when you cooler someone 200BB deep, or they simply punt their stack to you. When all you have are 50-100BB stacks, you're not benefiting as much when people lose their minds, which happens fairly regularly.

If you're better than your competition, it's almost always better to be deeper stacked at the table. Exceptions are when your roll is very short or if you tilt like a madman when you lose.

My first 110 hours at $1/$2 as a 21 year old have me at +$3528 for an hourly rate of $32.07 or 16 big blinds / hr. This is simply me running very very hot, correct? I play a pretty TAG style, rarely getting way out of line but not afraid to mix it up if I feel the table is right. Raising 87s types of hands from any position is somewhat common for me and I think that combined with my tight image gets me paid on the 456 flops. I also took a shot at $2/$5 a few days ago and cashed out $2001 on a $600 buy in over 8 hours (was DEFINITELY running super hot for most of that session).

I've been a winner in 21 of the 26 sessions I've played (one of those was +$2 though) and occasionally play 50c/$1 in a home game that is included in those sessions.
