What is your study routine? What is your study routine?

Tried this topic once before and it was moved to Beginners Questions.

As 5/10 and up grinders/winning players, what is your study routine, if any? Hand histories, coaching, videos, books, something else? Would like to know what people focus their non-table poker time on.

I think you'll find that 99% of poker players especially live, don't study nearly enough. I've got such a backlog of things I wanna work on that it's shameful.. but unless your life is all poker then there's just too much everything else that takes up the time..

I've read several PGC threads where the op has a goal of studying an hour or more every day. Just talk? I think it's probably more likely that people reach a certain point and then stop. I was hoping to find some grinders who still do and find out what they were doing to stay motivated.

Get a good coach. I could recommend you mine but not sure if he is interested in more students.
Hunger is usually a good motivating factor IMO.

Ive been crushing the bigger games for a while now and these are some things I do.

I've been taking photos of the players in my player pool and then studying them for like 1.5-2 hrs/day. I also don't play unless I hit the gym and have been eating healthy so that counts as a lot of study time.

Remember you have to study differently than everyone else otherwise you'll end up right where everyone else is.

I studied a lot about when I should be shot taking and learned a lot from that.

Watching card runners videos is the easiest way to study. What I mean by that is when all other study commitments fail (reading, sims, maths) it's not that hard to click a few buttons and watch a video for an hour of entertainment.

I probably watch one every other day. For deep theory/entertainment I find the old stinger/raptor videos best, for basic applicable strategy I like Rask88.

Funny the comments regarding the almost stalking of players. The top kid in our room crushes and I thought I had a decent grasp on his game (we're prolly at 500 hours together so far). A few sessions ago I said, eff it, I'm documenting every single VPIP this kid makes. Bet sizing, aggression in relation to position, timing, hell whether his nose twitched or not...SO MUCH KNOWLEDGE to be gained by doing this.

What I slack on the most and at the same time what I think is most important is building multiway ranges/sims to determine my equity in multiway spots. Need to do more of that. It's just not talked about anywhere because only in live poker can you 6x UTG and go 8 ways to the flop...vs players that treat top pair like the stones.

Taking lots of photos of players.. presumably without their permission!?!?

I hope that's a joke... because if I ever caught anyone doing that he might need a new phone after that..

That's a pretty big 5/t player pool if you need to take pics of the regs.
