Villain is Tight-Aggressive and transparent...
Effective stacks are $400
$1/$2 NL

UTG+1 limps

Hero limps from HJ with Q10

CO Limps

Button Limps

SB Folds

BB Checks

Pot Contains $11

FLOP: 8 9 7

Checks to Button who Bets $12

Folds to Hero who Folds

I felt like if I called and hit that my straight that it would be so obvious that Villy wouldnt pay me off anyway.
But it made me wonder why I was even in the hand in the first place. But again check calling here seemed so fishy and betting and getting raised off seemed even worse.
Not that this matters but J hit turn and the CO check raised over-shipped all in and Button folded. CO flipped over J10

Thanks for the help guys.

yea I fold these spots fairly often, depending on the opponent. You're not getting immediate odds to call, so there's nothing wrong with mucking.

You should only call if you think the implied odds are there. Your straight isn't well disguised, so you actually probably don't have big implied odds, unless villain is spewy.

Let's not also forget that you limped this hand. You only spent 1 BB to see a flop with a pretty decent hand. You semi-connected, but folded when you weren't getting the right price to draw. I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

Now with flops like A9Jr or 9J7r... I think the implied odds are usually there if you're deepstacked to peel the flop, even for a pot sized bet. These flops are much better for you, as your draw is more disguised, lots of two pair hands and worse straights will pay you off, etc.

This is an easy fold. For 1, there is a player behind you left to act. It's hard to feel you have the best hand even if you pair up on the turn. You have to feel at best you are drawing to 4 outs for the nuts. Even then, you don't know if anyone has a ten to pay you off. If they do have a ten, then you are going to at best chop if you hit a 6, or at worst lose a ton (vs J-10) You don't even have a backdoor flush draw.

Grunch,
This is a raise PF for me, and ought to be for a TAG as u describe yourself. And forget about the pot odds you are deep and have crazy implied odds and position. This is a call all day. Does the money on the table represent a big chunk of your BR? Are you comfortable playing deep? I ask these question because you're playing scared. And that's a leak u need to address.

Raise or fold preflop, either are fine, it would mostly depend on whether or not I want to play with BB/UTG+1. With even one more limper, I would be raising every time though.

grunch: horrible fold. What if villain has 10x, and you stack him when a jack falls did you think about that?

Fold is weak due to monster implied odds, and a raise reopens the action. The last thing I wanna do here is raise and give the villain a chance to blow me off a nut draw when we're deep.
