0.50/1

Hero is on BTN w/ KcQd. UTG straddles to £2, 2 limpers and HJ raises to £8, I call, SB calls, BB (Villain) calls, UTG folds and orig 2 limpers call. (£51.50)

Ignore table presence for this hand apart from Villain as that's who I get HU to river with. He's an experience player, played with him alot, started hand with about £220 behind. I start the hand with £280.

Flop: Jd Th 9h

Checks round to me, I make it £28 to go, Villain quickly calls as does HJ and all others fold. (£135.50)

Turn: 7s

Checked to me again, I bet for £78, Villain quickly calls again and HJ folds.

River: Ts

Villain tank checks to me, I think for a short while and check behind.

Spoiler:
Villain shows Js9s for 2 pair

Should I be shoving for value here? Can villain ever be checking his value hands to me on the river there? He only has £100 left behind, if I bet and get raised I'm never folding anyway, so I figure a check back is the correct play?

Any thoughts on how you might play the hand differently also appreciated.

Don't post spoiler, you'll never know if the advice you're getting is influenced by the spoiler.

I'd shove river. Very unlikely that V flopped a set and checked twice on this board, and then checked river again when he made a boat. You can get called by Jx and 8x.

haven't read spoiler. Easy shove for value on the river - tons to get value from, villains will call with lots and lots of worse hands getting 4:1. He also is going to lead with hands better than ours at a very high frequency.

Won't let me edit it now, but thanks for the tip.

True, though it's obvious I'm strong from my betting, so JT might check to me also to shove?

In hindsight this is true and I probably should be shoving, though this villain is never calling 3 streets with TP. Though in general most +EV play is more likely going to shove. Especially off his stack size when I'm never folding if he was to try and rep a full house by shoving.

How about if he shoves the river into us? We still call?

Thanks for the advice.

If villain made his boat or tied you he would probably shove into you on river. If villain was nitty and will never call unless he can beat a straight I might check behind, against most it's an easy shove when villain has less then half pot.

If villain shoves into you this is a pure judgement situation. Your getting great odds but this board is now very scary and you can easily have a boat yourself. Villain can be trying to scare you off with worse hands that can't fold if you shove and figures it might as get the money in first. You just have to look at your history and make a read and go with it. I would lean call with top straight unless villain is very tight.

Definitely should be a river shove here. He should never have sets the way he played this and the only boats he really has are J10, 109. J10 probably shoves river for value. 10-9 might check and is the most likely hand you lose to. On the other hand he's probably going to call you here with any 8 or any 10 and he certainly has hands like 87, Q10, in his range.

Pretty complicated board. I'd rather shove if I was going to bluff but I do not think you are getting paid with a shove here. Goal is to extract as much money as possible and he just checked. Sounds silly but in situations like this I think in a 2 part sequence "we have the best hand" and "how much money can I extract without him folding" I also like to incorporate this when in play with particular players because it allows for a post oak bluff opportunities.

3 bet pre or fold, calling KQos to a HJ raiser is a leak in my book.

Haven't looked at spoiler.....

AP, definitely betting river here. I may not jam here with the board texture being what it is, but I'd probably do something close to a "same bet" and bet $80-$90, as not to blow our V off their hand. I think a river shove folds out a lot of Vs range that's less than a full house.

I expect 2p+ to play the hand faster on the flop, and we have a great set up with the nut straight on a board with a one liner to a lower straight. It's very V dependant, but there are some instances where I'd check-back river if the front door flush draw came in. The board pairing 10s isn't too concerning to me, and with this board texture I'd expect a lot of boats to jam into you hoping to get paid off by a straight. With a one-liner to an 8 and a paired board, I just don't think many Vs are going to check river with a boat and risk it getting checked behind.

lol.

@OP bet turn bigger so SPR on river makes for a better shove.

Not sure why that is lol, if you feel you are ahead of his range here then why not 3 bet pre?

Pre is close between all 3 options

Bet all streets bigger and clear shove on the river

Larger on the flop, larger on the turn.
If we do both of those, the river is an easy value shove.

As played, I think I shove anyway.
