Some context before posting the following two hands.

I have been trying to make the transition to live poker from NL50 online. I have been playing 10 - 14 hours a week. Still breaking even.

It was literally my first hand in the game.

My stack:100bb´s

UTG: Limps (Senior player that always buys in for 500bbs, really deep. Doesnt raise too much pre flop, mostly a limper that doesnt fold to a raise).

CO: Hero. Raise to 4bbs QJo
BTN: Calls
BB: Calls
UTG: Calls

Pot: 18bbs

Flop TcKc3d.
BB: checks
UTG: bet 10bbs
Hero: call
BTN: Fold
BB: Fold

Turn: 9c
UTG: Bets 40bbs
Hero: Shoves
UTG: Call

He showed the Jc4C. Would love to have some advice for this hand, I am not sure if it was the right play to shove here. I expected him to show two pairs or maybe a set of 3s. Defenitly not expecting a "donk bet" with a flush draw with 4 players left. Whats the correct play here? And what kind of approach do you take with players that limp mostly every hand and are playing deep?

Second hand:

Hero: 100bs

Actions folds to me.

CO: Hero raise to 5bbs (KdQc)
Btn (150bbs): Calls
BB (200bbs): Calls (Solid player, capable of bluffing and put pressure in any street)

Flop KcAd7d.

BB: checks
CO: Hero bets 5bbs
BTN: Folds
BB: Raise 15 bbs
CO: Raise to 40bbs.
BB: Calls

Turn 7

BB: checks
CO: checks

River A

BB: checks
CO: Checks

He showed A7.
I fold.

I did that raise on the turn with the idea that he is raising me with any AX with a low kicker as well as the A7, I am expecting him to fold any hand with a low A. Is this hand well played? I would not bet on the river cause if he is calling me with Ax, he is going to do it again with the two pais and K kicker.

Would really appreciate some feedback.

Thanks!

H1: Not sure why we are going all in here. An old dude potting into you on the third club is pretty often a flush. Most old guys just don't have the stones to donk into you here without a very strong hand (they should do it more often with bluffs and semibluffs imo). Anyway the shove is bad. If he has 33, KT why would he pot the turn on pretty much the worst card in the deck? Just call if you think he can have air or worse value (old dudes basically never have air) or nit fold.

H2: don't cbet the flop, don't 3b the flop. People call preflop raises with an ace in their hand a lot and you are crushing worse Kx, pocket pairs. No value added in betting flop imo.

First hand is not terrible, but it's very read dependent.

Second hand is just throwing money away. Don't cbet and for the love of God, don't 3 bet. People are very stick with Ax in LLSNL. Your job is to stack them with those hands not bluff them off it.

I’d step down to 1/2 or 1/3 unless you have an insane live bankroll. It’s going to be a huge adjustment going from online 50NL to live play so the cheaper you can do it the better.

General advice is don’t expect people to fold when ‘they should’. Instead, know they don’t usually fold and you can play high value hands and get paid.

On the first hand I think I agree with Mdelore, that 9c is the worst card for him, i should folded there or just call and fold if he shoves on the river.

On the second hand i could be wrong but this is my line of thinking:

I am cbetting to apply pressure on latter streets to Ax without a good kicker. When he raises my bet, i expect him to do this with any A just to protect his hand against possible flushes, etc.

My three bet is clearly not for value, is repping AK or KK, AA. I expect him to fold all AX except A7 (AK is not in his range and yeap i have a K). Is this line too far fetched for this game? When i 3 bet him here, what do I have on this spot? Pretty much im crushing his hand, i am not raising with AQ here.

Edit: Now thinking over it, it was better a check on the flop? Even when a flush draw and IP? Just thinking what other line i could have taken.

Hand 2 is fancy play syndrome. Cbet this board with AK and your sets. These guys dont fold top pair or two pair. The money at these stakes is made at exploiting their inability to fold, not by trying to bluff them off top pairs. I check/call this flop and check/fold unimproved on turn.

Hand 1 Consider raising flop if you're planning on calling or raising turn bet. You take initiative and possibly create fold equity.

Hand 2 you were aggressive for no reason. You turned a marginal pair into a bluff.

I suggest finding some way of getting on this guy's left every session.

Hand 1 - read specific, but a lot of times when older players do this on these relatively wet boards, they're trying to set their own price for a draw with the added benefit of maybe scooping the pot there. I'd usually raise here. When the flush hits and he sizes I'm out.

Which gets me to thinking that going into a MW pot with QJo is a bad idea. And we don't know how likely it is to go MW because we started playing on the 1st hand instead of sitting back and developing some information on player profiles.

All I can say is WOW! I see online players come play live all the time and think they are going to destroy the games because...well we all know online poker is tougher. The vast majority of them spew chips like a volcano and never are seen again. Both of these hands are major spew. This will never ever work in live games. Both plays might be standard for online games. I dont know. I havent played live since Black Friday, but I promise you that you will go broke playing live like this.
