2/5 game in SWFL. I've been sitting for a couple hours. It's a very loose-passive table. Lots of limping, lots of fishy calls. 3-bets, big preflop raises and limp-raises are always KK+. This is the second time I've played in this room. I recognize one player from my first session here 3+ months ago but no one else knows me.

I have been playing pretty tight and haven't made many hands. I haven't been caught bluffing or doing anything out of line.

V in this hand is on my right and seems pretty fishy. Limps a lot, doesn't bet for value, etc. He has about $300 and I cover.

OTTH

I'm BB. There are 2-3 limpers including V who is SB. I look down at black AKo and make it $30. All fold except for V who calls. I probably would raise more at a different table, but there aren't any gamblers here.

Flop ($70): KJ4 rainbow. V checks, I bet $35. I might size bigger but this is a pretty dry board and I want hands like AJ or small pairs to come along. V thinks for a bit and calls.

Turn ($140): 8 Brings a back door flush draw into play. V shouldn't have diamonds but I kind of want to take the pot now. I bet $75 and V thinks for a bit longer and calls again.

River ($290): A Back door diamonds got there. Q-10 got there but a stubborn A-4 or A-J is going to pay me off. V thinks for about 15 seconds and shoves his remaining $140 into the middle.

Hero... ?

$40 pre.

Flop is fine.

Turn I'd go $100.

River I'm never getting away from with that price and the fact that we only have to be good 24.6% of the time, which I suspect we are.

I would be more worried about QT than the diamonds. What is he calling $35 on the flop with two diamonds? Would be nice to know which card on the flop is the diamond.....would like to know if Kx of diamonds is in play for V.

But I can't fold top 2 for 3-1 on my money. Plenty of 2 pair hands that will pay you off, or V could just be repping the flush. QT is really the only hand that makes sense that beats you....and it probably has to be suited, since V called your 3-bet.

Easy call. If V has diamonds, QT, or slowplayed a set......pat him on the back.

Pre I could go bigger, but I get it. I definitely go bigger on turn, though.

River is a crying call.

Standard call for this price when you beat some value that V would do this with. I call and expect to see QT (most likely QTdd), T9dd, AJ, or a slow played 44.

Are you saying if the effective stacks were deeper you would fold to a half pot bet. Or are you saying you would fold to an all in that was for more big blinds.

The second one. Like if we were deeper and he donk jammed river, it’s just a rly easy fold.

I still think it’s a fold vs a half pot AI donk jam

This is the biggest ongoing leak in my game. It should be a fold, I knew I was beat, but I get so curious and just want to see what happened and exactly how I lost. I've struggled with being a payoff wizard for years and I just can't seem to find the fold button when I need to. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been pleasantly surprised when making a river call when I was pretty sure I was beat.

I'm sure I'll get bashed for this because of pot odds, GTO, statistics, RIO, IO, etc., but if I always went with my gut, I'd be a more-winning player.

What did he get there with?
