Time Limit on Session- Help! Time Limit on Session- Help!

I have been running into a situation and am looking for some input. The poker room I play at is only open for 8 hours a day. The problem I am having sometimes is getting stuck or losing a bigger pot towards the end of night. For example lets say I am in the game for 150bb and ran my stack up to 350bb. The room closes in an hour and I flop a set and get it all in on the turn and lose to a flush draw on the river. Even though my play was +ev, I will end up most likely leaving stuck and booking a loss! I know the short answer to this is "leave when you're up." Should I cash out every time i make 200bb's? Not take small edges in the last hour or two? I am not sure what is the best approach? Thanks for the help.

I understand this concept. However, I also think it is important to book wins as this is where your bankroll comes from.

Let me try another example. Lets say your 400bb deep effective. Would you flip your AK against QQ with some dead money in the pot for a small edge if you knew you would not be able to continue to play that day and be forced to book a loss if you dont win the pot?

I understand that taking the most +ev lines will show a profit in the long run. The problem I'm running into is having my session compromised by a time limit (8 hours).

You clearly still do not understand.

It is not necessary to "book a win" every time to build your bankroll. Losing $200 one night and winning $650 the next night will build your bankroll faster than winning $175 both nights. Just make the best play every time and the money takes care of itself.

You are bringing up two different issues.

1. "Booking wins" is not where bankroll comes from (by wins I assume you mean individual session wins). Building your bankroll comes by making +EV plays. Like someone else said, +650 and -200 is better than +175 and +175.

2. Your example above regarding flipping AK and QQ is more about size of bankroll and ability to handle variance. Not related to the issue of ending a session while ahead.

Has anyone ever had to deal with a time limit on session? I understand expected value, variance, bankroll, etc. I also understand that when I play for 8 hours, get really deep, and then take an edge that is easily +ev, lose 400bb's close to the end of the night I am going home stuck instead of with 400bb's in my pocket.

If you risk your whole stack in a +ev spot repeatedly you will eventually lose it and have to start back over at cap (100 bi's). This is why people cash out after winning massive pots, to protect these winnings and pad bankroll.

My issue is having to leave what is a soft game, sometimes stuck, when hypothethically if the game was on 24/7 I could rebuy repeatedly until making profit. Does that make sense?

+1

learn to play deep stacked as winning a 800bb pot is also good for your bankroll

that said if you are really out of your comfort zone and skill level (ie 2 tough players on your left who are also deep and aggressive in position) it is OK to quit the game

or

if you just don't play as well later at night quit earlier

you have read about these concepts but you do notunderstand them.

Perhaps reading about the psychological component of poker is needed. Try Jared Tendler & Alan Schoonmaker.

As has been said, you say you understand concepts you clearly don't. Not much anybody can do until you accept that.

I think it better to say OP that you don't accept the concepts, especially in matters where your other beliefs are costing you money. If booking a win is more important to you than maximizing your win rate, that's fine. The best way to maximize the number of wins you have is to immediately get up and leave for the day as soon as you get up in a session. If that means you post the BB, it gets folded to you and you leave, that's a win.

When you're ready to maximize your win rate, people will be happy to help you here.

Does the room you play offer multiple tables like casinos?
Usually when I play in casinos, I buy in for 100bb and leave the table when I have around 250-300 bb. I go on and play slots for 1 hour or so and buy in back again with 100bb. On the other hand, when I play in single table rooms, I leave when I realize there are no other players that can double me up.

Sorry to elaborate more in single table session.I meant if there aren't players that are "willing" to double me up.
Meaning I wouldn't waste time playing in tight table even with plyrs with higher chip stack
