Haven't read responses .....

HAND 1: I'd check back the flop and get ready to call down. As played, I think I still call the river shove, but won't be shocked if he has an A.

HAND 2: I might just fold sometimes. But 3betting is probably good. How often does he fold to c-bets or barrels post?

HAND 3: 3-betting looks good. Calling is fine too; obviously better than folding. But I think given the extreme description of this villain that I could be 3-betting here. Probably the worst pair I'd 3bet though.

I feel like I know this V. There's an old dude who plays in my local cardrom, who looks like a typical OMC but plays a maniacal, super-high variance style, with lots of donk-leads and total air-ball bluffs, regardless of board texture or position.

First time I played with him, it took me a couple hours (too long) to figure out what he was doing. Once I did, I realized I'd have to call this guy down way wider, in spots where it would be an easy fold against most other opponents. Since then, I routinely snap off all his insane bluffs, and fold my non-nutted hands whenever he makes a ridiculous over-bet. He may as well be playing his cards face up.

He sounds like a guy you'd want to play against, but he's actually a miserable pr1ck, and sucks all the enjoyment out of the game.

Against a short-stacked, drunk version of my local V, I'd be 3B'ing his opens with a wider range when I'm behind him, looking to set some limp-raise traps when I'm in front of him, and basically playing a more fit-or-fold, ABC style against him post-flop. If he bluffs too much and calls too much, fine. We just v-bet him to death, under-bluff, and over-fold instead of semi-bluffing, v-betting too thin, or hero-calling with marginal hands.

Show your bluffs when he folds. Check-raise huge instead of c-betting. Make stupid-small block bets to induce him to raise as a bluff, or make him feel like a fool by laughing at him when he calls. Do whatever you can to support his impaired decision-making. He's already drinking. Make his head spin. He won't like it.

I might even go full psychological warfare on him, by flirting with his wife, or needling him whenever she's around, to get him to increase his VPIP even more, while I tighten up on my pre-flop range and start raising bigger when I enter a pot.

Want the guy to VPIP 100%? Motion to his 20-years-younger wife, and ask, "is your daughter seeing anyone? I might like to court her." He'll either tilt off every dime he has on him, or pick up and leave, allowing a lower variance opponent to take his seat.

One change I would make is I would 3bet the 88 hand at 100% frequency … Based on what you said, I think you have something backwards on this hand: the call in the HJ incentivizes you to want to 3bet MORE frequently, not less. Also being in the CO should lend this more to a 3bet because you want to guarantee position postflop — ie deny the BTN the chance to call.

If V never looked at his cards (and we are 100% certain), we barely have odds to call. We are a 60-40 dog to a random hand. I think of all these hands, this is the easiest fold.
