TAG vs. LAG Live -3-5 Hand TAG vs. LAG Live -3-5 Hand

I really hadnt played with this guy for too long before this hand came up and it became clear later that he was a decent LAG in this game. I was to his immediate left. My flop raise and turn bet were weak but Im sure, now, that he would have called more if I did bet it.

We both had about $300.

Limp pot of 4-5 players, I had position on villian with 86

($20) Flop 458

Villian leads for $20, and I min raise him to $40. He thinks and calls.

($100) Turn J

Villian checks, I bet $50 and he calls.

($200) River Q

Check, Check. Villain turns over 87

Im fairly certain if I made a big bet here, he would have laid it down but I didnt have the balls to do it. My real question is this: Is this standard for a LAG to shut down on a hand like this after I took control on the flop? If he sees me as a solid TAG, he knew I saw him as a LAG, he keeps checking to me, and I bet the river, will he give me credit for a bigger hand than I had? How often can I take this pot away with a river bet and how much do I need to bet? I put him on something like an A8, K8 or 98, 109 or like he had and thought he might call down with A8 but lay down the pair/draw type hands. I figured he would have raised back on the flop and definately the turn with 2pr or better. Im new to this live game and definately not comfortable yet playing in it so that was part of the reason I didnt fire another bullet at this pot.
