Why in the world are we sitting at the worst seat at the table (directly OOP to the one person that we're massively deep with)?

I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a ~$4500 stack at a 1/3 NL table, and have never been at a table where 2 people have had that stack. So I'm definitely out of my element here, but...

I might just flat the original raise but it depends on a lotta things.

Make sure you know your room's rule for when the action is re-opened regarding an all-in. In my room the rule is the all-in has to be for 1/2+ the previous raise and the action is re-opened, so that would apply here (at least in my room). So if that's the case, with all this dead money we should probably be re-raising when it gets back to us in order to try and get it HU with the all-in SB.

On the flop, in a protected pot there isn't as much reason to check as this isn't going to induce nearly as many bluffs/etc. as it would HU in a non-protected pot. Against a calling station whale I probably bet very small (like lol 1/4 PSB) just to try to eke out some value against lol backdoor draws / etc.

As for the rest of the hand, it's a gross spot, imo. In the protected pot this guy should only be betting for value. Does this game often play this crazy deep? In my typical 1/3 NL game with it's normal lol small stacks, ain't no one gonna play for this much without AK minimum (heck, even A8/A7/88/77 might get a little gunshy realizing they don't have the nuts and it's possible we have AK). So I just don't see 99% of the poker population doing this this deep with AJ. But if the game always runs this crazy deep and people are used to pushing around huge chips with lol holdings, maybe things differ.

This would be true normally but this whale is a baluga and might be betting flop for a multitude of reasons. To show us a bluff, because he thinks KQ high is good, to find out where he’s at, because betting is fun, because small pots are boring..

If the guy overcalls ~95% of the time I get the argument to take position on him but it's not always possible/desirable to change seats.

Also being 5 stacks deep against a complete whale regardless of position >>> being on a normal table.

I've seen 1-3 NL with a no capped buy-in amount, if hero is buying in for 4.5k his roll should be like... atleast 50k, if he is somewhat professional and has great tilt control. 75-100k if he's not.

A good subject to debate. Personally I am of the opinion that the deeper we get the more speculative our hand range and thus the more important position is no matter who we're playing against. If I'm covered 4.5k in a 1/3 game you better believe I want to have direct position even if the guy is playing with his cards face up for lulz.

Regarding position this deep, for me it's all about simply not being in this seat: *any* other seat is better (and even across the table from this guy is perfectly fine as we'll very rarely be OOP to him in EP if we're playing tight and meanwhile can loosen up in LP where we'll always have position on him).

for me it depends

if whale is loose splashy type I prefer to have him to my immediate left
especially true if 1-2 pros are in the game.
WHY
(because then others can't try to iso him as they have me to deal with)

if whale has some skills then opposite table from him.

but any seat at his table is better than none.
