Last night at Harrahs in StL at 1/2 and I came across this hand..
Im sitting in the BB with AA..
First 3 players fold.. 4th player makes a tiny raise to 7$ (small in relation to this tables typical raises of 10-13$) folds all around to me and I decide to slow play and just call the 5$..
Flop comes Q83 an obviously non dangerous board to me so I check..
He makes a C-Bet of 15$ nearly a full pot sized bet.
I hollywood for about 30 seconds and call..
Pot:47$ - Turn comes a T..
I proceed to keep slow playing and check..
He leads out with a 22$ bet..
At this point I decide to pounce and raise to 66$..
He thinks a bit and folds..
Do you think I shouldve made the turn raise smaller? Just call? Or do you think this board was still harmless enough to call then bet the river? Call the bet then check raise the river? (very unstandard I know but I wanted to play this hand in a deceptive way for image) I didnt want to run into a straight or flush draw and give them odds.. We both had about 250$ before the hand.

What are your reads on this guy? Have you seen him fold to a 3bet before? Not a big fan of slow playing this pre unless you believe he will fold to a raise.

As played- raising the turn is fine. If he has a hand he can convince himself that you are raising with a turned straight/flush draw and you'll be able to turn your made hand into a bluff if no scare card comes off on the river.

It's impossible for me to even guess what his hand might be since his CBet is so large and he double barrels but then gives up pretty quickly.

Against droolers, I'd much rather 3bet preflop cuz there is always a decent chance the villain goes crazy and we're able to get 125 BB into the middle as like an 80% favourite.

As played, I probably just check/raise the flop and then lead turn cuz if we just call OOP there is a decent chance he gives up and lets the turn check thru, which on this drawy board ain't ideal.

As played, raising 3x his turn bet is probably maybe even a little on the small side since his initial bet is so smallish (not quite 1/2 PSB). But I wouldn't raise any less since board is now quite drawy.

This level doesn't require this sorta FPS, IMO.

Ive never seen this guy before, when the table was formed be mentioned coming in from out of town about 2 hours away for the weekend or something.. His son or sibling was also at the table with us and busted out 2 buyins relatively quickly.. Anyways this hand happened early on and I didnt have much reads on him.

Slow playing AA at $1/2 is almost always a huge mistake. Shovel money into the pot. If you lose your customer, you do. It's more than made up for by how much more money you win when you don't lose your customer.

Raise the flop or 3bet pre. Raising the turn like that is overplaying your hand at these levels and any decent player is going to fold even TPTK. You could donk the flop to induce action from an aggro player.

Actually, I don't like 3betting int this spot. You will mostly get folds pre and pick up peanuts. If I know I'm closing the action and it's headsup, then I flat, keeping my range as wide as possible
Villain raised small (compared to standard at the table) which means he will fold to a 3bet some of the time, and the times he calls a 3bet, he will fold to a cbet. I prefer this line with my airballs.
AP, you got as much money as you could from his weak PPs

One lesson I learned playing poker is to never slowplay big hands. You should definitely 3-bet preflop to build a pot and lead this flop.

If you are choosing to extract value by letting him bet, you should stick with this plan on the turn and call. Check-raising the turn only alerts him that you're trying to trap him, and he's going to fold everything you beat. So I would call the turn and then also check/call the river.

NOTE: The above paragraph is conditional on IF we are choosing to slowplay. I would never have done this in the first place.

stack sizes are pretty important here and make a big difference on slowplaying preflop or not, although im almost always fast playing at 1/2 with big hands

I actually don't mind the slowplay sometimes, but I would much rather go for it when I am in position.
