Straddling...WTF? Straddling...WTF?

2 thoughts,
First off when u throw on the straddle it effectively reduces stack sizes in half. So high card value increases and implied odds hands decrease in value. So now I would rather have hands like KJo and ATo rather than hands like 44, A6s, 45s etc.
second, the fundamental rule still applies “in loose games play tight, in tight games play loose”. Well, if the straddle is making the game play loose, it’s time to play tight.
Funny thing is that I’ve played in a couple games before where there straddle actually KILLED the action. Everyone was just playing super tight... so I just started playing quite loose opening to 2.5x and stealing a lot of straddles.

Yeah, sometimes the straddle kills the action by causing the table to tighten up. Like in 1/3 with 6 UTG straddle, people take hands they would normally limp for 3 and just fold them, people take hands they would normally raise to 15 and they just call the straddle. And when there is an open to $20, a player won’t 3bet a hand they would have otherwise 3bet without a straddle, which might be reasonable due to how tight the $20 opening range is.

That said, other times the straddle is really good for action. You still see a lot of 5 or 6-way limped pots, giving you plenty of opportunities to squeeze the dead money. It can be really easy poker when the table plays a loose passive style and you capitalize by playing aggressive with a tighter range. You don’t have to wait for JJ+,AK. You can put in squeeze plays with hands like AJo, KQo, or weaker.

In my games the straddle is usually good for action so I put it on at every opportunity, in the hopes that I can encourage others to do so. Usually it works and half to 75% of the table will straddle.

low stakes live players straddle utg hoping to get QQ+ and get a big pot going. I've actually never played in a game with much button straddling but it seems rather ideal to have position in bloated pots a lot, although personally I would rather just rely on pure hand equity than fancy play to win pots.

If all this straddling is foreign to you, or you dont feel like entering the fray then definitely switch seats since you were smack dab in between 2 totally different types of straddle every hand. If you can at least get into the CO or something that'd be great because any game with more money going into the pot is always going to be good for you.

It is better to be silent and be thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.
