Hero $300 - table is pretty tight so have lagged it up just to get the table active, not really table captain but mot the fish at the table either.
Villain $300 - abc player, not sure if a nitty player or just scared money.

Dealt JJ in HJ -

A limp or two to me, I make it $15
Folds to V in SB who raises to $35
Folds to me, I flat.

Flop ($80) KK2
V checks
I check

Turn K
V checks
I check

River 9
V bets $25
Hero?

I know, it's a pretty easy call but given that V isn't really ever 3b bluffing - which makes his range AA, KK, QQ, AK - does that make this a fold? Or do I have to call given the odds I'm getting?

I'd bet the turn. Never folding river.

Pretty standard call. You need to be good less than 20% of the time.

Bit of a strange way for him to play QQ+ or AK if he has any of those hands, so I'd need a very good read to fold river here. In all honesty, I would probably raise.

Extra info - otf and ott, he looked like he wanted to bet but was holding himself back.

Or did he look like he wanted to look like he wanted to bet? Was he acting? Players often do this in order to "scare" there opponent into not betting.

I'd definitely bet the turn, and as played I'm snap calling, and making him show first.

call river.

What's your reasoning for calling the 3 bet?

Ugh, i sound so amateur - I called cause' I figured folding was bad and so was raising. On any A or K flop, I was folding to any bet and if there wasn't the overs, I was calling and seeing if he'd slow down ott otherwise I was gonna fold. I guess I figured getting to show down made sense.

Please correct my thought process.

I'm saying I want to hear exactly why he did what he did preflop. I want to hear a range of hands for villain as well.

As played call.... I would of bet turn for value. Your title makes little since and that seems like a trivial call Otr

Pre is super standard getting almost 3:1 in position with JJ.

Flop check is good.

I like the turn check and think betting is quite bad. What does a bet accomplish? From a value standpoint, we get value from TT only, if that's even in villain's 3-bet range, which is doubtful. From a bluff perspective, he obviously won't fold a better hand. The best thing a bet would accomplish is getting hands with some equity to fold (or call, which is of course even better) - like Ax, Qx. But those hands have very little equity, so getting then to fold does nothing. And I don't think villain calls with Ax on the turn. I think a turn bet is no good. A check is optimal on the turn and also keeps all villain's hands in his range so we can snap off a river bet or bet/fold the river if he checks to us (we can get called very light on the river - not true on the turn due to the threat of leverage/a river bet).

Now snap off the river bet. Calling is the only and obvious option here.

Bet turn.

As played super easy call. It would be more interesting if he bet $80 or over bet $100.

I'd probably still call as I'm a pow who hates folding.
