Is Sweden having problems with numbers of hospital beds and respirators? I think the main problem is overwhelming the medical system. If you're avoiding that, are you doing well? I really don't know.
Not all bright minds are coming to the same conclusions.
The first large-scale community test of 3,300 people in Santa Clara County found that 2.5 to 4.2% of those tested were positive for antibodies -- a number suggesting a far higher past infection rate than the official count.
Based on the initial data, researchers estimate that the range of people who may have had the virus to be between 48,000 and 81,000 in the county of 2 million -- as opposed to the approximately 1,000 in the county's official tally at the time the samples were taken.
“Our findings suggest that there is somewhere between 50- and 80-fold more infections in our county than what’s known by the number of cases than are reported by our department of public health," Dr. Eran Bendavid, the associate professor of medicine at Stanford University who led the study, said in an interview with ABC News' Diane Sawyer.
The following from Vanity Fair (link) shows Sweden taking some measures but not others:
To start with, it’s a myth that Sweden is doing nothing about the virus. Most Swedes have changed their habits a lot. Schools for older kids are closed, as are universities. People are working from home, when they can, and the elderly are being urged to keep to themselves. Gatherings of over 50 people are prohibited, and ski resorts are closed.Restaurants and bars are allowing table service only, and grocery stores are installing glass dividers between customers and cashiers. People who go to Stockholm may be stunned to see bars and cafés with customers, but they’re seeing only the Swedes who choose to run higher risks. They’re not seeing all the Swedes who are staying home.
Sshhh. Some brains would explode if it leaks out that people can do the right thing without a government mandate.
Interesting they just put out another order for my county. Now you can't go outside without wearing some type of mask even if it's anything made of cloth.
Count my bro-in-law as one of the Calis who may have already had it and thought it was a flu.
Thanks DMW. Do you know if your BIL can get tested for antibodies, or does he just suspect he had it? I would like details in this, because determining who has had it is important going forward.
This is somewhat smartass, somewhat genuine - I'm not gonna wear a mask unless someone forces me to, but assuming the grocery stores here force me to, could I wear a V for Vendetta mask, or would that not be allowed?

but why? it's a freeroll ffs, not just that but what if you are asymptomatic and could be spreading to others?

The somewhat genuine answer is that unless the mask has the mouth and nose holes completely covered, it doesn't count.

He put his name on a list. Thus far the men in black haven't come for his blood.

The worst DIY masks are vastly better than nothing at all and not much worse than the pros
Forgot about those. My favorite is probably Eastwood vs Lee

Do I look like Spiderman?
On a more serious note, I think my general annoyance with how the government has treated this, and how the majority of people have bent over and spread their cheeks to the government has unfortunately had a negative impact on how I view other aspects of this. A professor at the University of Michigan that I had a video chat with late last night summed up my thoughts very well, when he (to the best of my remembrance) said "I don't think the governors instructions were that ridiculous. I would say we're overreacting at least a little bit, but I don't find any of Whitmer's requests to be that crazy. With that being said, these should be instructions, not government forced policies. *we both chuckle, and I agree with him*"
I'm very frustrated with the whole situation. If we all have to wear masks all the time everywhere we go, how do we even know who is physically attractive and who isn't? If we have to keep six feet, how will people ever go on a date or reproduce ever again?
I somewhat regret not protesting Whitmer's overreach in the state capital last Wednesday, but enough people came to send a message . I may blindly vote Republican in the 2022 gubernatorial election if I don't love the Libertarian just to get her out of power.

The only holes that aren't covered are the eye holes.
I only bring up that mask, because our new world as a result of COVID-19 resembles the V for Vendetta world. A lot.

First, we’ll have a vaccine in 12-18 months. This is not forever, no matter what the dummies on Fox News or the tin foil hat brigade want you to believe.
That protest reminded me of when my kids were toddlers. “Wah wah, we’re it getting our way!” Those idiots likely extended the time they’ll be under these conditions because of their ignorance and arrogance paving the way for another outbreak amongst them.

Take it from me: you don’t want this.

I really think I had it a little while back because I couldn't breathe for a few days and was so miserable I wanted to die.
I'm sure there were a lot of idiots at the rally, but assuming the main goal was to fight for liberty, I'm all for it. I look back to 9/11 (Ik I was 3, but internet and history books) and we instituted the Patriot Act and it never went away... I'm very fearful about how much of this won't go away.
Anyways, I hope you're holding out well.

You think your ease of determining whether someone on the street is attractive takes priority over saving people’s lives. That is a level of moral repugnance that anyone with a shred of rationality would never dare admit.

I remember I was driving to my philosophy class that morning. I was listening on the radio to Howard Stern describing something going on and I thought it was one of his skits or something because it sounded unbelievable.
When I got to class this lady had a grave look on her face and asked me if I had any relatives in NY and told me to go home and watch the news.
