I know this has been discussed elsewhere, but searches are a bit difficult and time consuming on my ****ty phone. So, if you happen to know where to find threads about seat selection, please post a link.

That said, say you are starting a new table. You recognize most of the players sitting with you, and know how they play. Which styles do want on your left, and which on your right? Where do you want to sit in relation to the best player at the table (apart from you, of course )?

You want the good players on your right for obvious reasons.
You want the really bad players on your right so you can isolate them.
You want the real LAG players on your right so they dont give you fits and you can exercise a wider range.
Everyone else can go on your left.

Right on. That's pretty much what I worked out in my head. I also did find a bit of discussion about this in an archived thread since posting this topic.

Thanks for the input.

When I first started live I thought I wanted the good players to my right. However, now I've discovered that:

I want the recreational players to my right.
I want the LAGs to my right (these are fairly rare in my game).
I'm fine with the good players to my left as long as they aren't LAG.
I want the nits to my left.

This is especially true if i'm playing tight because the good players will recognize this and generally avoid getting in pots with me regardless of their position.

We want tight passives and nits on our left that will yeild the button to us more often than not when we open from the HJ and CO and even MP. It is also good to have straight forward and predictable villains to our left that won't bluff us as much and will let us know when we are behind.

On our right we want loose weak players and loose aggressive players, it helps to know if there will be a weak player in the pot before we deside to enter. If we have LAG villains on our left they will be 3betting us and utilizing their position well which is a headache for us.

We generally want big stacks to our right on short stacks to our left. Position is power and we want to get in big pots while IP.
