5/10 NLHE Cash Game. 9 Handed Full Ring at local casino.
Villain (UTG1) opens to 60 (stack: 5000) Hero (BTN) calls 60 AJs (stack: 2000) Folded Around. Heads Up.
flop: Qc 7h 6s (140)
UTG1 bets 60.
BTN calls 60.
** I decided to float this flop because it was a small cbet and I have some backdoor draws.
Turn: Th (260)
UTG bets 200.
BTN calls 200.
I decide to just call here because I have good equity here and this bigger bet by the Villain looks quite strong and for value.. Last time in a heads up pot, he overbet turn then folded to shove when I held Q9s for 2nd pair and a flush draw on 963J turn. I just flatted his 2/3 cbet on flop then he 1.5X pot the turn and folded to my shove all in.
River: Ac (660)
UTG1 b800.
Hero ?
Overbet sizing by him looks quite polarizing. I think he may have a set here sometimes and also 98 for a striaght or AQ for top 2 pair. Is it possible to call here and ever be good in this spot?

You're almost certainly beat on river

I sort of like a turn raise. Just so hard for him to continue and withstand a river bet without a set (which are certainly in his range to be fair)

Pre sizing + cbet sizing=alarm bells

I think it's a pretty weak float from these positions anyways

Think about your range and if you need to defend this hand specifically vs this sizing

I love the float and think its a no brainer. We can fold out better on turns/rivers very often such as AK and pocket pairs JJ or less. Not to mention we sometimes have the best hand. We block AQ and QJs and have backdoor draws like you said, so it's a good hand to bluff and try to steal with.

I assume you have AJhh? If so I think turn raise is mandatory especially given your history where big bet did not = nuts.

this is great advice for how to think about calling river which requires some work on OP's part.

That said I think there are definitely some exploitative things to think about, such as your background HH where he overbet turn and didnt have it. Also this runout is much better for your range than his which makes him polarized like you said. You block AQ and most of his flop/turn value range should be slowing down on this river except AQ/QQ. Does he really open all his 89s/KJs from UTG? And if he hit his straight why overbet the scare card on river as opposed to turn (if he has 89) where the board is so dynamic? I am calling the river and for our range I think we are folding plenty of hands (Qx) to not be defending too wide by calling here.
